Chapter four, the Synergy Concept and the Synergy Success Cycle. In this segment, we're going to be looking at the Synergy concept in more depth and the synergy success cycle. Dr. Janowitz, please let's reiterate again exactly what synergy is and how important synergy is to our lives.
Awesome. Thanks, Jenny. Synergy is a concept. Synergy is a. Is a way of thinking. It's a mindset that how can you take different elements of things, combine them to produce a multiplying effect that can produce a greater result than them individually by themselves? So, you know, in my practice, we combine chiropractic, we combine physical therapy, we combine massage therapy, we have advanced strategies like laser or decompression nutritional work. How do we combine all that to produce a greater result? So the synergy concept can be used as a multiplier not only in your health, but in every area of your life.
Right. You have a thriving chiropractic business and when you first started, it had a different name, but at some point you changed the name to incorporate synergy in the title.
That's right. So initially we were Oviedo Family Chiropractic. That started in 2001, and then we started adding all these other services to work together. So we said, hey, we needed to have a name that really reflected the concept that we've been able to attract a lot of people to.
That's a great name. I like it. Thank you.
So what we really want the audience to understand is how important it is to have their health foundation strong first.
That's right.
And in order to understand that, they need to also understand.
The negative side of that if they don't have a strong health foundation. What are the consequences of that?
That's right. Well, synergy.
Can be done in the positive and it can also be done, unfortunately, in the negative. We know that you can also combine a lot of negative habits in our life. If your thinking is negative, if your diet is poor, if you are hanging out with people that are not encouraging you to be at your best, if you're stressed, then synergy can work in a negative effect, too. So the concept of synergy is really not attached to the result. It's just a concept that will take you in a direction positive or take you in a direction of negative. But your health is the foundation because you can want to be great at what you do. You can have a potentially great career or want to be a great spouse or a great parent. Right. I have. I have young children. I had my last child at 45 years old. And so I knew that I had to be healthy because of wanting to be inspiring and be present and be an active dad for my kids. Right. And so having that as your foundation, your health is the foundation of everything. You can't, in my belief, you cannot accomplish anything of your true capacity without your best health.
Right, I agree. And if you have children, you need that energy, that's for sure.
Absolutely. And the older you get, too.
Let me tell you, in this chapter, you discuss a principle called the Pareto principle, also known as the 8020 rule.
Yes. Love it.
Can you tell us about that?
Love it. Love it. So a lot of times people will talk about it in business. And the 8020 principle tends to say, like, that 20% of your efforts, 20% of your activities, 20% of the things that you do produce 80% of the results. So if you look at it, say, even in, like a practice, in a professional service, you probably get 20% of your patients refer 80% of your patient members, or. And you look at your health, you can have key activities that produce a great part of the success in your life. So there is. And they've seen this as a pattern. They call it a law for a reason. And 8020 is the principle, but it could be slightly more, slightly less. But the reality of it is there is an imbalance of what we do can produce different levels of results. And it's really important to know, like, what are the things that I am doing that matter the most to produce success in that area in my life? And that's when you really start to, number one, recognize. The first rule is to recognize what are those key activities. Right. That are producing the great success of my life, and then start focusing on expanding those in my life and cutting out the other ones.
Right. Which ultimately leads to good time management.
Absolutely, yes.
And that synergy, life in its fullest form.
Right, that's right. That's how you distill it and that's how you expand it.
Right.
Yeah.
Now, when you look at life, most people look at it in two parts. Their professional life and their personal life. But you introduced to us in the book the wheel of life, which consists of many different aspects.
That's right. That's right. So I had the ability about five or six years ago to go through professional coaching training where I learned to Coach executives and CEOs, doctors, financial advisors, attorneys, and thousands of patients. And a lot of times people think they live in two dimensional lives. They think, well, I have like my professional hat, like what I do for a living, who I am, and there's a big identity to that. And then you have your personal life, but those are really good. At least people are breaking those two things apart. But there's this wheel of life, which really helps you see that there's so many, so many different aspects of who we are. So you can have your.
Relationship as a spouse, you can have your relationship as a parent, or even your relationship as being a child to your parents, even as a grown person.
So those are the subcategories, those are.
The categories right there. Yeah. And then you have your finances, then you have your spirituality, your faith, then you have your recreation. And it's pretty amazing. I ask people what do they do for fun, and I get like this, as if I asked them a complex physics question. People have forgotten what they do nowadays.
We're so caught up in really our professional lives, for the most part, that we forget to stop and have fun.
It's so true. So your recreation, it could be what you do, your hobbies, all these other areas become who we are. Right. And so the synergy, life is the system of approaching all those areas to be able to say, how can I maximize each area? I did a strength finders test and one of my key aspects is I'm a maximizer. My wife is always jokes around me, says, eric, you don't have to maximize this. And that's like, that's what I naturally like to do. It's like, how could I make that better? So I look at those areas of life and say, well, what can we do to make those areas work better? Because people tend to live a limiting belief that, well, if I devote to being and dive into my professional life and my career, right, then that sacrifice is the other area. And I want to give the listeners and the viewers an expanded thing. Well, what if you can have.
What if the possibility exists that you can be a great father, a great mother, a great.
Owner or employee and be great at your finances and be great at having fun and be great at all these. It doesn't have to be an either or synergy is about multiplying and having all those areas work together.
Right. Now what I find that runs parallel to your wheel of life is this circle right here on your book where you have the four principles that you focus on in the synergy health cycle.
That's right.
So tell us about the four principles.
So in studying personal development and professional development for over 20 years, probably 25 years at this point, I started to see patterns, right? You saw things like things on purpose, like the purpose driven Life. Right, A great book. Or start with why, which talks about purpose. So then you start to see a lot of things on like 10 do and steps and strategies. People love strategies. Like, hey, okay, just tell me, what do I got to do? Well, the doing is really important and a lot of times people will think about things and they don't do. So you still have to have the doing, but the doing becomes later. And so you have this kind of like inner work. I call the inner work or the mindset work. You know, the toughest six inches, they say in golf is between your ears.
From ear to earth.
I wouldn't know. I don't play golf. I don't play golf. My dad is 81 years old and plays golf at least six days a week. And he can shoot his age. I mean, he's incredible. But he even says it's just the hardest part is the mindset there. But what happens is the inner work in the top part of the synergy success cycle starts off with power. And power can be really construed as a negative thing. But power is really your. Your self confidence, your strengths, what are the areas that you are really, what capabilities do you innately bring to the table in that area of your life? So that's your power. How are you showing up? And then it becomes, once you know who you are, right, then it becomes clear as to your purpose, which is the second part of the cycle. So your purpose is your compelling vision, your goals, your why all those areas become your purpose. So you have to know who you are and where do you want to go? That's the first step in the cycle. Then that works together in what I call the outer expression. And that's where you start to see what are the elements. Who do I need to be around? I mean, we do life together, which is why, quite frankly, all this social distancing and all the things that we're going through in today's society and this fear of kind of interaction is hindering us in ways. I mean, I know that we have to Be safe and we have to be conscientious and all this, but that we are a people that need to be around people that makes us. That enriches life. So it's who you are around. I mean, you become a product of who you are, are around with. So then it's getting the people component right. And my belief with the Synergy Success Cycle is once you identify where your strengths are, who you are, what are your capabilities, and how do you want to direct those capabilities, you will naturally attract the people in your life. So as much as you said in an earlier segment that you prayed and sought our practice and you found our information from a newspaper clipping at that time.
We also feel like. I feel like if I know my purpose of wanting to be a chiropractor and I know what my capabilities are, I attract people in my life that I know that can be helped. So it works both ways. Right. And so that becomes the people component. And then you have the process, and that's where you start to get your hands dirty and start working on the things that you need to do and working within the things you need to do. And in that section, we talk a lot about standards as well. So, again, just to really briefly summarize it, it's four aspects. I call it the four Ps. The first one is power. How do you show up? Then it goes into purpose. What is it that you want and why do you want it? Right through that, then you attract the people in your life, consistent and congruent. You have to realize the people that are in your life right now are the exact people that you, ironically, at some level, have attracted and the people that are consistent with those other areas. Then those people you learn processes from, and those processes produce results which then will either take your level of power to a higher level, which makes the Synergy Success cycle a success cycle, or it can go in the negative, which could be a synergy, I guess, downward. Downward spiral cycle. Just as well. So it does have a positive and negative aspect to it.
Nice.
Yeah.
So they can also think of it as four quadrants, as you mentioned in the book.
Yes.
And then you take those four quadrants and you kind of divide them in half. You have your inner work and your outer work.
That's right.
And then to help along with the book, each chapter has action steps. So I know for me, personally, I am a checklist person, so it's easy without the action steps to read a book like this and maybe get overwhelmed because there's so much information but Dr. Janowitz breaks it down at the end of each chapter with a page full of action steps. So I suggest just reading through the book once, obtaining the knowledge, and then go back to each chapter and start working through those action steps. And like you said, it's a cycle, so it's something that can be repeated. Right. You might not get it all the first time around, but keep doing it until you achieve those goals. Am I on the right track?
Absolutely. I couldn't have said it better. I mean, the point is that you want to grab the concept first, because each chapter literally can be an entire textbook in and of itself. So I want to give you just enough information for you to be interested and focus on that and then get the concepts down and go through that. And the book will change as you change. And so that's a really important point. So reading it now, and then if you read the book a year later, it will give you new information because you are different.
Right. You'll come back with a different perspective each time.
Yeah. As you change the way that you see the world, the world you see changes. Wayne Dyer had said that, and it's absolutely correct. So as you learn this information and you adapt and you change in your level of identity and your level of purpose, then you see things differently. And that's why we are having that course put together, where the book then can take you at a next level. Bring the book to life and have it in a much more intimate conversation. That's why we have the podcast, all these ways to support the concept. So if someone likes to read, well, then you read if you want to have it read to you. Then get the audible if you want to have it as a further conversation. Use the podcast if you want to see it applied in people's life and how they are applying this concept. And that's where the podcast is going to come to life, too. If you want me to really coach you deeper, then you do the course. That's the concept of the whole Synergy Life process.
Excellent. I love how you broke it down and made it simple.
Thank you.
I believe in chunking, and this definitely offers that option to the readers. So get started on your action steps.
Thank you. Absolutely. Do it.
