EP 149 WTH?!? The Doctor's Chat: Detox and Enzymes with Dr. Ellen Cutler

This is a transcript of a YouTube interview (Dr. Greg Eckel with Dr. Ellen Cutler) in which Dr. Cutler describes her clinical approach and personal healing story. She explains developing the Ellen Cutler Method (ECM), an energetic desensitization/acupressure-style protocol combined with organ-specific detoxification and routine use of full-spectrum digestive enzymes. She credits enzymes for resolving her colitis and reports they reduce food sensitivities (claiming 80–90% reduction) and improve broad symptoms (energy, skin, hair, hormone balance, attention). ECM uses testing (including a software library) to identify root sensitivities (toxins, infections, emotions, inherited trauma) and clears them remotely; she offers workshops, a newsletter, and products. Resources mentioned: drellencutler.com, Facebook page "Micro Miracles", books "Micro Miracles: Discover the Healing Power of Enzymes" (updated/pre-order) and "Clearing the Way to Health and Wellness" (available free with newsletter).

Hey everybody, welcome back. I am Dr. Greg Eckel and this is what the health and I have Dr. Ellen Cutler, who is a best selling author, an internationally recognized teacher, public speaker and media spokesperson. She has a chiropractic degree and specializes in the use of desensitization of food and other sensitivities, gentle detox and enzyme, and nutritional therapies for chronic conditions that have perplexed the conventional medical establishment. This is all addressed in her revolutionary healing technique, ecm, the Ellen Cutler Method. I am so excited to have you on, Dr. Ellen.
Well, it's great to be here. I'm very excited about this interview.
You know, you've developed your own method. What inspired you to do that?
Well, it starts with the fact that I had some health issues myself when I was in chiropractic school. School. And because I was so stressed and had a very stressful upbringing too in some ways. I had severe gastrointestinal problems and I was diagnosed with colitis when I was in chiropractic school. And it was very, I couldn't, I couldn't eat anything. The only thing I could live on was great. I ate one food and, and because of that I became very fatigued and had to pay for myself and go to school. And then I worked. I mean, it was so stressful. And so one of my mentors who I spoke to, knew what I was going through, said actually I did an orthopedic class. After that I did a postgraduate work, three year diplomat in orthopedics. And I talked to him and he said, I think you should take a digestive enzyme, a full spectrum digestive enzyme. That is many years ago, doctor, Nobody heard about digestive enzymes. Within two weeks of taking that enzyme, I never had a problem again. It was a miracle. That's why I wrote a book called Micro Miracles, all about enzymes. After that I had a chiropractic practice going on. And I decided because I saw the most amazing results with the enzymes. Not only did my clear up all the GI stuff, my hair, my skin, hormones, energy, all of it changed. It was pretty miraculous. I gave every patient that came to see me, and you can understand this, an enzyme. I didn't care if they came in with a stick, stiff neck or low back pain or hiccups, I gave them a digestive enzyme. And I saw miracles in my practice and I became the empress of enzymes. So everyone knew about enzymes because of me. Really. I spread the word. But what I noticed is that there were still some food sensitivities. Like if you take a digestive enzyme, 80 to 90% of your food sensitivities will be eliminated, which is miraculous because people don't realize how many food sensitivities they have. There were some symptoms that didn't get cleared, and I was avid. This is my life's work. I sought out other ways of testing and other ways of treating people with other symptoms like chronic fatigue or asthma, et cetera. So I looked into energetic techniques because I did a lot of muscle testing and therefore developed a technique called ecm, which is based on evaluating. It's a substitute for muscle testing, but it has a big computer because your brain just doesn't. Can't remember all that stuff. When someone comes to see me, let's say they have asthma, I test them to see what is the underlying root of it. I call these sensitivities, and I look at how they're detoxifying and all about their gut. So that's the technique, ECM in a nutshell. And based on what I evaluate. And it could be all kinds of different things. It could be trauma, could be emotions, could be an old virus that you never got rid of, or a bacteria that you're still energetically reacting to. And by clearing these things and desensitizing, which is like an acupressure, urine acupuncture. It's an acupressure technique technique that I teach people to do at home, and I do them here or even indirectly, they can clear these, and lo and behold, they get better, and it's very successful. I know it's. There's a lot more there. But just trying to describe a little bit.
That was great. And I definitely. So that component of the detoxification enzymes and gut health. I want to dive in on each one of these. And in particular, let's start with detoxification. I don't know where do you. Do you start with the enzymes or you start with detox?
I start with detox. You. Right on. You knew. Okay, well, because if you have.
What is the best way. What is the best way to detoxify the body? And then why is that important? So you know, the component for our listeners and viewers, Some of them have heard of liver and brain detoxifications. A lot of people think about cleanses and, like, colon cleanses, but my sense is you're talking about something different here.
When somebody comes to see me, what I do is I look at how their body's not detoxifying. I have a graph, actually. Is it a 10 or is it a 1? That's an important factor because I know that if it's a 10, they really need detoxification. Maybe before they do anything else. Then I look and see which meridians it's impacting and which organs based on that. So I call it organ specific detoxification. So is it the liver, is it the colon, is it the lymph, is it the skin, is it the brain? Is it emotions that you need? Based on that, I recommend different detox supplements or clearings or a detox program. In fact, the end of the month my new newsletter is all on my. The detox enzyme weight maintenance program that I've been using for years. And I'm finally going to launch it. Because you can't lose weight if you're toxic. If you're not detoxing, probably I like to use homeopathic or herbal recommendations. In fact, honestly, I'm against drugs. More and more chiropractors are known to be against it. And I went to medical school also. I also have a medical degree, but I practice as a chiropractor. But I don't see any real use for it. I mean, I know there are certain things you need it, you know, but there's so many herbs and there's so many, as you know, this is your special homeopathic that works so well. So that's what I try to use for home, for detox or fasting or doing some kind of intermittent fasting. So, you know, the work I do is very tailored to the person. But other things that generally people do need is exercise. And exercise, skin brushing is great. Drinking as much drinking water and staying away from things that you know, are toxic. Unfortunately, our world, we can't see a lot of the toxins, but we know what we put in our mouth. So that's the first. Right.
That's a great, that's a great start. And do you think, you know, I see patients and people, you know, they've been detoxing for decades and I, what do you think about that? Because I, I mean, I just think, you know, there is a, there's a, a rhythm and a purpose for detoxification. But I, I'm just curious what your thoughts are on that. Like folks that are, you know, you know, them, you listeners and viewers, maybe you're one of them. Just like you, this detox, that cleanse, it's like a never ending detoxification of the body. While, you know, deep breathing, dry skin brushing are great ways of a maintenance component, but like a, you know, a significant detox. All the time. I'm just asking you because, you know, you do. You do this work all the time. Maybe somebody's level of toxicity is that they need that. Um, and I think there is a resilience to people where I. I'm full on a proponent and I prescribe detoxes as well. So I'm right there with you. But I. I'm curious if we want to have that conversation as colleagues on with the general population, public kind of sitting in and listening to us. What, just off the cuff? I know I'm putting you on the spot with that question, and I don't really have a predetermined answer. I'm just curious what your thoughts are on that.
I think it's a great question because I see that a lot people are on detox or they'll stop for a week and then they're back on it again. And when someone comes in to see me, that's the first thing I text. And it's, you know, I'm always. I always say, it's not that you're toxic because you'll tell someone you're talking. Am I a toxic person? Is that what you're telling me? I said so I really make sure that they understand that your body's not detoxifying properly. But I think that everyone does need some detoxification in their life daily in some way. But not these heavy programs. I think sometimes can be unnecessary and can be a little bit dangerous too, if you're constantly doing so. Again, I'm just saying it probably depends on what you're talking about. But some of the homeopathics I use are so gentle that they're probably okay. People get very attached to that feeling. Like, although some people, like, I had a patient that just went to Scotland and Scotland's very moldy, and she said, I use this homeopathic, it's X chem or whatever all the time. It helped me. So she brought all along. It's not that she doesn't. So she knows when she needs it. So. So I think maybe it doesn't answer your question, but, like, that's why I like my cold showers. And again, I think exercise. I'm really a proponent of exercise. I think it's so important in longevity. You talk a lot about anti aging. I saw on your profile. I think exercise is really important. And when people say I can't exercise, I don't think that's true. Right.
I think exercise is a loaded word. Right. For most people. And I'm with you. It's one of the largest lever movers on longevity. So in the detox component, that's kind of stage one, you're assessing are they detoxing where they need the support? Then you're moving into digestion and gut health with the enzymes. But maybe you also have this desensitization program that I want to talk about because that is very interesting to me and to our listeners and viewers.
Yes, well, I, you know, it's so interesting. People come in with a laundry list of symptoms of problems. Right. As you know, and sometimes they don't mention their gut. And I always ask them, I said, well, what about digestion? Oh, I'm always been bloated. I've been bloated my whole life. Oh, I've constipated, I've been there. So, you know, I never think about saying it because it's been there because it's true. Right. And it's gotta be. The most important thing is looking at your key to your overall health. The brain, the gut, the immune system, the gut. So it's very important. I know myself. It's hard to feel good and happy in your life, in your job, when your gut's not happy. It's like the center of everything. It's true. Right. And your mind goes to it. So if kids are trying to do things at school and their gut's not good, which is often they can't pay attention. It's a big thing for attention deficit. So I always look at that. So the first thing I look at is what foods they're not digesting. Some people are more carbohydrate intolerant, some are more protein intolerant, some are more fat. And some people have a horrible time with fiber. Based on that, I will recommend a specific enzyme for them. So I give, almost everybody comes to see me a digestive enzyme. And everybody knows that about me. And you know what? Of all the supplements, the one supplement people for years have worked with me, the thing they noticed a difference right away is a digestive enzyme. It's like you give them other supplements and say, I don't know if it works. You give them a digestive enzyme, it makes the world. It's like the number one supplement for me.
What are some of the things that they notice with taking the enzyme?
Yeah, well, first of all, they stop craving foods. That's a big one. Their food sensitivities are tremendously decreased, which can help with all kinds of symptoms like headaches and fatigue and inflammation. Pain, chronic pain, asthma symptoms too. Pollen saving, better with pollen, you wouldn't believe how important it is to take a digestive enzyme because it optimizes your nutrition. So instead of taking all these supplements, which you were probably sensitive to, and if you're not digesting food, how are you going to digest all those supplements? Take a digestive enzyme even if you can't do every meal. Although I won't go without it. But even one meal a day, you will see the difference. Sexually, people, sexual libido, hormones. It's like hair. Oh, my hair is better. It's thicker. It's growing again, you know, and attention and like that for, you know, people with add, it helps with that too. I know I'm leaving out a lot of stuff, but. And of course, all the digestive maladies, whether you're. I, you know, intestine, you know, irritable bowel, even people who have autoimmune inflammatory colitis, it could help with. Help with me because mine wasn't autoimmune, but it was colitis and, you know, and heartburn. That's a big one. Gerd too. So there's so many different. What a digestive energetic. Do people have no idea how healthy, how helpful it is to in their overall health?
That's really cool. So digestive enzymes, and how does that relate? Obviously, that's helping with digestion and gut health. But then you also, as part of the ECM methodology, you've got gut health on there too. So what are you doing for that?
Okay, so when someone comes in, let's say they come in, they have irritable bowel. Okay. So I go through my testing. I'm a protocol. I look at how they're detoxifying, I look at how they're digesting, and then I look at all the food sensitivities. So the ones that will be eliminated with the enzyme. And I can tell that in my testing, I clear them with the ECM desensitization. That's an acupressure technique. And it goes down the spine. It like, it retrains the brain. It makes your body think, feel, and not react. It's like a learned new response. And it usually is permanent.
That's great.
Yeah, so it's, you know, you can eliminate. So you can desensitize to most foods. You. You just can't do true allergies, although I have. But those are a whole different area that is not included with the ecm. But more people have food sensitivities rather than food allergies to. And is it emotional? You know, and you can clear all kinds. If you saw, if you sat here and saw the things that I come up with somebody, you. It's incredible. But emotions are big and you can be sensitive to people and traumas and, you know, and things and traumas that even inherited from your ancestors can come up as well.
And you're able to pick that up with the computer program or.
Yeah, you should see this computer program. It's a library of thousands of entries in there, you know, everything you can imagine. I have a whole anti aging program. So I. People have memory. I look at this. What's underneath this anti aging? Is it B12 deficiency or. It is some sensitivities and some enzymes or some neurological stuff. It's. It's a whole world. It's a whole energetic. I create this energetic twin and I'm able to react to it and work with it.
So. And you. Are you able to work remotely with folks?
I work remotely and I started that way before COVID So I've been doing it for years and years. I do that and I'm teaching it. I used to teach a lot and then I had a trauma with losing my company and it became now ECM and I'm starting to teach again and I have another workshop in October. It's all through Zoom too, which is great. So you can learn it all that way. Cool.
And we're going to put your contact information in the show notes. We've got drellencutler.com as a main spot of reference for folks. Is there anything else that you would like to share with our listeners and viewers?
Well, yes, I have a Facebook page called Micro Miracles and every Monday I do a Miracle Monday. You can learn all kinds of little tidbits. And my book Micro Miracles Discover the Healing Power of Enzymes is updated. It's now pre order. You can pre order it. It has a whole chapter on enzymes and post Covid as well as an added expanded chapter on anti aging. And my book Clearing the Way to Health and Wellness is all about ECM that you can download free if you subscribe to my newsletter on my website. And I have some enzymes there too that I put together that people can purchase and look at and ask me any questions too. I'm there to help.
Awesome. Well, Dr. Ellen, thank you so much for sharing your wisdom with us here at what the Health.
