Welcome back, everybody. Dr. Greg Eckel. And this is what the health. Our topic today is biohacking pet health, also known as why detoxing the six organs of elimination is foundational to pet health. With Dr. Marlene Seagull, she's a pioneer in the field of integrative medicine for for over 20 years. Respected author, international lecturer, researcher for integrative veterinary technologies, and a clinical practitioner and overall awesome human being on the planet. She has a special expertise in ozone therapy, photodynamic therapy and detox, which we're going to get into today. Her veterinary hospital has the widest array of alternative therapies in the world. Dr. Segal's focus is on bioregulatory medicine, identifying the root cause of disease in establishing safe and effective solutions. She has developed an online course for pet parents to learn how to integrate a holistic lifestyle and therapies for their fur babies, as well as trains practitioners as well. Dr. Segal also has an online courses for vets who want to learn more about integrative services to their mainstream practices. Also has developed her own line of raw food and essential supplements and is preparing to launch spas Family well wellness centers, which are detox centers for pets and their human parents. Welcome aboard, Dr. Siegel.
Thank you, Dr. Greg. It's such an honor to be here and really grateful to be able to share the fur world with the human world.
I love it. I love it. And you know, we're not too different and we all do love each other. And I love that, you know, that you're able to take these therapies and use them to great benefit with animals. It's as if the placebo effect does not exist there.
Yeah, that's exactly what a lot of companies are so happy about, is that I've taken these modalities that were truly adapted to the human and figured out how to adapt it to the animal. And like you said, they really don't have any skin in the game. They just, if they feel better, they're better. If the therapy works, you see it, and they don't hang on to a lot of their trauma and drama and their aches and pains. They just, they're in the moment. And if they are better, you see it, and if they're not better, you know, you need to do more work.
Awesome. And you know, I think, what is it?
The.
The vibration of a dog's tail wagging is one of as like the equivalent of pure love. Is that right?
Animals bring unconditional love. It's a lot for us to Model, for sure.
Yeah.
That's the other thing that is really. It's powerful because, you know, last week I had a little bit of a frenzy myself, and I got a little ahead of myself and some of the things. And, you know, some bad things happened, you know, and I. And I took that moment to stop and reflect, and I thought, you know, I am just way too busy right now. I'm way too in the future. I'm thinking about all the things that are going on, and I wasn't being present. And literally from that moment, I slow down, and even when I walk, I now I'm intentional as I pick something up, as I'm taking steps, as I'm going up and down the stairs, I just take that extra second to slow down and be present right where I'm at. And I think that's a really important lesson because so many people, as an example, they drive home and they get there and they go. I don't remember taking the turns because it's on autopilot. So if you find yourself doing that, that's really your first clue. You are not in the moment. Play dog or cat and just be in the moment. It makes a huge difference in the outcomes of your day.
Oh, my gosh. Yeah, I love it. One of the earliest books I found on that was Tik Not Hans pieces Every step.
And.
And he does write about that. He has since left the planet, but he wrote about that, like driving home and not knowing and imagine like you're on total autopilot going at massive speed. That's dangerous. So I love that. Be present with us. So here we are, and we're talking pet health and detoxification. And, you know, one of the things you. You are a big proponent. Aging is not dis ease. And you help pets live past 30 years from a surviving to thriving. I mean, it's, you know, uncanny are our alignment on how you're talking about pets. I'm talking about people. Tell me, what do you. What do you mean by this concept? Aging is not dis ease.
Well, we are going to get older. Chronologically, we're going to get older. But aging does not mean that we have to start falling apart. We are conditioned in our society that as we get older, we have aches and we have pains, and we have more pharmaceuticals in the cabinet, and we're expecting for our bodies to fall apart. So I'm about to turn 70, and I am not willing to be in that category. I am vibing, and I plan on staying there until the day I choose to leave this planet. And the same for our pets. The difference between the pets and us is that they are not in control of their lifestyle. They are totally dependent on the lifestyle that we provide for them. So if you don't know better, you can't do better. And this is an opportunity for us to realize that we have the sickest pets in on the planet in the history of pets. And the same for humans. Like, we are the sickest, you know, country that we've ever seen, and we're in the top three of the sickest countries in the world. And that's not anything to be proud of. And since we have so much in the way of medical advancements, and despite of all that, you know, our pet cancers, dogs are almost 100%. It's one out of 1.65, just cancer. And cats one out of three, highly underreported. And then when we add autoimmune disease, obesity, arthritis, gastrointestinal diseases, allergies, it's like nearly 100% of animals having health issues. And I'm doing testing for deficiencies and toxicities, and I'm finding animals under the age of four months that have severe deficiencies and toxicities. So if I'm testing for that between four months and a year of age, and I'm finding really horrific numbers, can you imagine all the animals that are going around where they go to the vet, they have a symptom, they get symptom suppression, but they don't ever identify the root cause of the problem. So is it a surprise that four or five years down the road when they haven't got rid of the toxicity like heavy metals and such, and they haven't made up their deficiencies that the immune system at some point can't. It's trying to survive, but it can't move into thriving because it doesn't have everything it needs to do. So interesting.
Are you seeing that increase over the time you've been in practice?
Oh, my gosh, yeah. I've been practicing for 40 years. And when I started to practice, we were going back to know to the beginning one or two cancer cases a year. But since glyphosate came on the market around 25 years ago, I started to see an uprising in dis ease. And then about 20 years ago, it was a dramatic spike in the cancer rates, and it went one or two a year to one or two a week to now most of my practice is treating cancer and chronic degenerative diseases. So I see animals from all over the country wow.
And you what, what all goes in there? I mean, glyphosate is a crime against humanity. I, I am a firm believer of that. What else is contributing, do you think?
So it's processed foods in particular for animals because, number one, they're designed to eat a meat diet. They're carnivores, like we define them as such. Cats are obligate carnivores. They have no dietary requirement for carbohydrates. So when we take their food and we cook it at high temperatures and then we add in to make it nice and sticky and hold together as a kibble, we start adding back in either corn or we add in potato starch and we make these diets extremely high in carbohydrates to the tune of 40 to 60% of the diet is carbohydrate. On a species that isn't supposed to run on carbohydrates. Right. They can do it short term to survive, but not long term to thrive. And so the misconception that, oh look, my dog, you know, it's eating the kibble, looks fine. Well, it looks fine till you start looking at all of the symptoms that are showing up that are letting you know he's not fine. But then, you know, they get symptom suppression. And so that food is number one and probably the biggest. It's enzymatically dead because it's cooked at high temperatures. And all the carbohydrates and then the hormones, chemicals, pesticides, the lack of proper nutrients, the lack of essential nutrients. The essential nutrients are those amino acids, vitamins, minerals and fatty acids that the body cannot produce in sufficient quantity on its own. We have to eat that in our diet. Well, you have to live under a rock these days to not know our food is nutrient depleted. And I live in food forest. I live in a self made food forest and I still supplement myself with the essentials because I don't test my soil. I can't tell how much manganese and calcium is in the soil. You know, I just, why take a risk? Just supply those essential nutrients and then they're there and then your body can do what it needs to do.
I love that. And are. So you're testing your animals for nutrient deficiency or you now it's just assumed they have it?
It? No, no, no, no. I. My motto, test, don't guess. And if you're a pet owner or a veterinarian and you're hearing that for the first time, it is the lynchpin of our industry really. We need to know what we're dealing with, because some of these things you have to detox. Specifically, if it's mercury is different than lead, it's different than antimony. So you have to know what you're dealing with. And the deficiency is the same way you have to know what you're making up. So, you know, food was the first thing, and then water was number two, where the tap water. So many of our clients come in feeding tap water, and they have no idea that there's over 85,000 synthetic chemicals and carcinogens in that water. And then they think it goes through the refrigerator filter. So it must be good because it's filtered. It's filtered for chlorine and for iron. That's it. So we really need to look at water and structured water more than anything else, because we're made up of structured water. Our plants are structured water, and it's. It's truly called the fourth phase of water or the gel phase or structured water or coherent water. There's a lot of different names for it, but it's what is actually making up every space in our bodies. It makes up our tissue, our bones, and our. Our red cell. Everything has structured water around it. It's the medium for which the entire communication of our body functions through. So that's really important. And then the next is the environment. What are we breathing? What's touching our skin? Electromagnetic pollution. Never in the history of mankind has this ever been a bigger topic. And it's huge. I got exposed to a 5G. My electric company came out and put a smart meter on my house without my permission. And I know it was there at first, and I was having heart arrhythmias. My deep sleep went to zero zip. And. And it took me. Oh, I put a Faraday cage on it. So I recovered my heart arrhythmias went away immediately, but it took me three months to recover my adrenal glands because my bedroom is right over that meter. So I was getting a direct hit and had no idea. I just happened to be monitoring my heart rate variability and my deep sleep. But if I hadn't been doing that, I would. I would have just known. I felt horrible. So, you know, these are big deals. These are really big deals. And. And really the first step in detoxification is stop doing the things that are causing the problem. Yeah, simple. But it's. It's free. It's just about making choices. Right. We just have to know what we need to get rid of and make better choices.
I wonder. On the. On the dog front? Well, dogs and cats with the amount of cancer that you're seeing in them because they're out in the yards, they're not knowing to not go out in the yard right after the, they're sprayed, the amount of pesticides put on the, on the yards, etc. I mean, that's a, that is a big deal. And you're, you've really seen it with the glyphosate. I think that's one of the top used one. What do you tell people? Like, you know, elimination is the first thing, but, you know, you can't, you can't do anything about what your neighbors are doing or if you live near a golf course, things like that. What do you do for folks? The, the furry friends.
Yeah, as much as you can possibly eliminate exposure. So it means if you're living on a golf course and you can't get away from that, then at least put booties on them so they're not directly in contact with it. You know, look at where the animal's bed is. Check your house for emf, because there are different things that you can do to. Distance is the best, best thing you can do for emf. So it's really important to look where is your router test? Where are your hotspots in the house? Turn off smart appliances, turn off the router at night time. Yes, we can't get rid of what's next door, but we can certainly mitigate what's inside. And then I work with a company that actually has these towers. They're metal plates with a gel surface. And the incoherent lights come in and it reflects off of the stainless steel and reflects out as coherent light. So I've done tests like gazoo tests out of this. I've done live blood studies. I've done a lot of different things to actually see that this is working. And it is ridiculously amazing. So, so that's another thing that we can do is find good companies that have good products that really do help to mitigate the damage that we can't get rid of it. We're not going to get rid of our cell phones. I try to put mine on airplane mode as much as possible. I keep it further away when I'm speaking. I keep it on the loud audio part, you know, the part so that I'm not having head near it. So it's just using some smart tools to move as far away from it as you can and then get rid of as much of the things that you don't need like, don't use Siri. Don't have smart appliances. Turn your stuff off at night. Little things like that. It really makes a big reduction.
Do you remember the name of the gel? The gel reflector?
Yeah. It's called Essential Energies. I'm actually wearing the pendant.
Excellent.
Yeah. And it just happened. I was actually doing the study for this particular product, measuring variability, when they put my smart meter on. So I knew immediately that something had happened. And the owner of the company, day one, he goes, put the pendant on. Don't wait for the rest of the study. No, I said do five days. But, you know, the timing of it was just so interesting that it happened at that time.
Yeah.
Five days of misery. And then I put the pendant on. Then I put the Faraday cage on. When I found out that they had actually installed a smart meter without my permission, they literally jumped my fence to get in my yard. Wow. Yeah. Yeah.
Well, now, were you able to get it removed or.
No? No, I put a Faraday cage on it. Okay. You just. Yeah.
Surrounded it. Good for you.
Yeah.
What. So that speaks then to. The next component here is detoxification. And what do you use? You have specific tools for detoxification with animals and pets.
Oh, what a great question. So we have six organs of elimination. Let me start with that. We have the kidney, the colon, the lungs, the liver, the skin, and the lymphatics. Not going to put anybody on the spot, but I'll tell you, every veterinarian I have ever approached, and I asked them, do you remember the six organs of elimination? And the best of them can name three or four, but we just weren't taught to think of it that way. So it's not their bad vets or they're bad doctors. It's just we weren't taught to actually understand bioregulatory medicine. How does the body work? And one of the most key elements is our organs of elimination. Because if you can't get rid of the garbage, it just keeps piling up inside. It kind of makes sense. If you lived in a home and you never had it cleaned. Can you imagine your toilets and your sinks and how filthy it would be and things would break down? And that's a visual we won't get rid of for a while. It's burned on your. So we really have to be thinking about, can we do the same thing for the inside of our bodies, focusing on those organs of elimination. Now, of all six of them, the two that are most important are the liver and the lymphatics. Now, I'm going to include with the lymphatics, the fascia. The. Because in the past 20 years, we've really started to understand what the fascia is, and the lymphatics run through the fascia. So I call it a package deal. The more we can enhance the fascia and enhance lymphatic drainage, the better our communication between the mitochondria, our little energy guys that make energy and also communicate with our microbiome. So a lot of people forget that they have multiple functions. These little mitochondrial organisms that live in us. They make energy. Yes. But they also are the. The communication center for helping to find out what do we need to turn on and turn off in our biological pathways. And they do that through the communication with the microbiome. So super, super important. And that communication happens through the fascia. So it's all that did. And we have to pay attention to all of that. Things like gravity, scars, injuries, dehydration, the water in our body becoming unstructured. All of those things affect how communication occurs through all of that fascia and how well our cells even function. It's a really big deal.
It's. Yeah, it's awesome. I mean, to hear you in the veterinary world really putting this together, you know, in truly bioregulatory, naturopathic, Chinese medicine fashion. It's really inspiring. And it makes so much sense. It's like, oh, wow. This is, you know, why we do need to hang out more often. I think that the component of. You have some case studies that you wanted to share. You have some slides of some dogs that you've helped.
I've got to just. I'm going to do one case because I can sit. My presentations can go on for hours, but I'm one case on fashion. So to set this little guy up, he had been walking like an L in the shape of an L for six weeks. He had tried to jump on the bed and he kind of missed. And when he fell, he acted a little off for a couple of seconds. But then he seemed fine until a couple days later when he started walking crooked. So let me share my screen.
He literally bent himself by falling out of bed.
He injured the. The musculature.
Yeah.
In his back. So I'll start with this dog because he is. And he. He will show us what we look at when we're looking at the fascia. So this is Kuda. This handsome boy is under four years of age. He came in because he had a little wart on his leg and they wanted it to be Looked at. But they also mentioned he was starting to limp on his left hind leg. Now, this dog is under four years of age. We did test him for osteoarthritis, and he's positive. But notice how his left hind leg is kind of out to the side. Yeah, it's kind of angled out. And you can see all of his weights on the right side, his tails pulled a little bit to the right. And then on this one, you can see the video of that. He's. He. He does that all the time. And it's left hind leg is the one he's limping on. But everywhere where you see creases in here, all of that is where the fascia is starting to grip down. So it's not that the wrinkles are normal. They're not. And where hair pattern is chaotic, that's another indication that the fascia, it's like it's gripping and it's starting to twist and hold down because it's trying to create rigidity. It's trying to hold and become stable. We're pointing to where it. On his knee. The owner even noticed how the hair was a little chaotic on the knee. So all of these are indicators of. Of the fascia being abnormal. This was his X rays. This is a little case that's going to blow your mind. So like I said, he jumped on the bed. He's eating processed foods. He's only two years of age, has a lot of things going wrong. So the owner sends me this video, and you can just see crabs. Like his. His whole lumbar paravertebral muscles just spasm together. On the right, you can see his tail is pulled all the way over to the left. So here he is. This is the first time in my office, and I just put him on the floor. He takes a couple steps, and then he immediately starts to cry. Okay. But he never cried in pain. So the owners didn't realize he was uncomfortable because he never vocalized. So his lateral X rays, you don't see a lot. But on the ventral dorsal view, between where the two arrows are, if you kind of defocus a little bit, you can actually see that the spine is. Is being contracted between where the arrows are. And there's a little bit of a bend in there so that we just caught the spasm happening. So just going to show you how. When we were adjusting this portion of his ASI joint, you can see his tail being pulled off to the side. This is after his chiropractic adjustment. One of the things that Animals do is they integrate by doing shakes and sneezing. So here he's integrating. Fabulous. All I've done so far is a chiropractic adjustment. And we're waiting to see. And the third one for his Max. And then he's going to. Right after this, he's going to start to crab. But not as bad. Wow. Here he goes. Come on, Max. Get her done. Okay, you see the spasm just started. And there he goes. So it's not as bad as it was, but it's still not. Not normal. This is one of the moves that. And we do this course for pet parents. We teach them how to do the fascia decompression. Look at his left hind leg. See how it's held up him almost three minutes by the time we cut the video. So you didn't. The gravity of his own body. But see, now his left leg just went down. Yeah. Took about three minutes. And then we hold him kind of laid over to the left and the right. We're stretching those paravertebral muscles and we're stretching the fascia under there. Just using his body weight. Yeah. This is six hours later. Notice the tail is going to be right in the center of his body where before it was always pulled off to the left. But here's the magic.
Wow.
Walking. He's still integrating. He's still doing shakes. He's still sneezing, but no more crab walking.
Wow. Wow. Six hours after treatment. So the shaking and the sneezing is kind of an integration maneuver.
It is. So that's. It's one of the ways. And horses, they'll lick and do stuff like that. So that's one of the ways that we know that they're actually doing this integration. But he was such a dramatic case that I just really wanted to have people see that. And because we're all about empowering, the pet parent is, you know, we have a course that teaches them the foundation. It's about three hours long. It is a boatload of information. Every single person comes back and they go, oh, my God, that was overwhelming. But that's okay because you watch it.
Again.
To put it together, you know, so we, we. We hold your hand and we help you to figure out, based on the history, what's the most important things for you to start making changes for. And then we get that underway. And then after that becomes comfortable and it's who you are, then you pick the next thing and you integrate that. So little by little, it becomes who you are. And then the fashion decompression course, the pet parent takes that and they learn how to do all that fascia decompression, which in my opinion is next to getting rid of all the toxins and cleaning up the lifestyle and the dye in the water is truly the next most important thing is to support that fascia because that's where we have to have healthy fascia in order for the rest of the body to work.
I love it. Yeah. Right. All of the meridians run there. The electrical currents, the connection, the communication is all running. I have to say it. Fascia, fascia, fascia. And through there. That's really phenomenal. That's why hydration is key, why detoxing the body is all about getting the receptors of the body, of the fur, baby's body, of the human body open and ready to receive. You know, again, I think that's really in alignment with what we do with altogether is bringing more love and less suffering to the world. So that is. That's phenomenal.
Yeah.
Now I do want to wrap it in on a discussion of symptom suppression versus root cause change. Because, you know, again, conventional veterinary care is very similar to conventional people person care in that there's big pharma and drugs and suppression of symptoms. So at how did you get to the point of realizing like, you know, what we need to actually correct these underlying imbalances? And what does it mean? Suppression of symptoms versus root cause?
Yeah, of course, it's always something that you've experienced that is powerful enough in your life, there's enough emotion behind it that it drives you to do something different. So for me, it was an accident with my youngest daughter and her horse. And it was my quest. The horse saved my daughter's life with my quest to fix this horse is what took me out of conventional medicine because they had no answers. I was told I could put her out to a pasture or I could put her down. And those words were just unacceptable. And it really lit something up in me. And I made a promise I would never ever utter those words to any client ever again. And I've held that promise almost 25 years now, which is awesome. Sometimes not easy to do. Sometimes you look at the case and you go, wow, that's a big uphill battle. But you just take a deep breath and you focus and you say, I'm going to do the best that I can do. And then whatever happens out of that is not in my hands. But it's up to the divine. And. And so now that's what I do. And I help my clients go through even trauma release. You know, a lot of the things that our pets go through is linked to the trauma and the emotions of their pet parent. Another whole topic for another discussion. But, but they are linked. And so I look at body minded, spirit and then when I'm looking at biological pathways, it was imperative for me to understand what is the symptom telling me and if, if there was any take home message that I would help people with is to when you recognize a, a symptom that your body could be a headache, it could be an ache, a pain, it could be an emotion, realize that that is your body talking to you. We would no more unplug the dash light on our car when it said check engine and expect the problem to be gone. But yet we're taught to do that with our bodies. So this is our opportunity to start becoming in tune with our bodies and start to pay attention to what is it telling me, what is it trying to guide me to. And when we slow down, we started the conversation about how unpresent people are and you know, you kind of barrel through. Of course you're not going to get any messages when you're going one miles an hour and you're in the past and you're in the future, you're not understanding what anybody's trying to say to you, let alone your body. So this is our opportunity to slow down and take account. It could be first thing in the morning, I always do breathing exercises and I get in a parasympathetic state, which is my state of rest, relaxation, repair and detoxification. And I spend a few minutes there and just tune in what's happening inside of me, what's happening around me. And I'll do the same thing at night before I go to sleep. It's just, it's a ritual now to become present. And then I spend a lot of time in my yarden and when I'm out there, no music, no cell phones, I am literally pulling weeds and touching trees and eating plants and just being totally present. And when I come back in, it's like this parasympathetic reset. I'm grounded. I've got microbiome all over me. I'm filthy, but it's amazing. I've sweated and I've worked hard and it's like little things like that. But, but one last thing, I want to make sure that we get in. And people ask me, how do you stay so positive? How do you stay so happy? And, and how do you slow down aging and it truly comes down to happiness and purpose. If I just had to pick two words, it would be happiness and purpose. You know, every day I live my life with a purpose and that whether it's helping animals, whether it's getting messages out, whether it's creating more things in the garden and making herbal tinctures and whatever from whatever I'm growing, whatever that is, every day has blessings and purpose to it. And I share that with at least one person, if not hundreds. And then, and then it's just being present and grateful for the things that we have in our life. Yeah, we could sit there and worry about everything we don't have, but that doesn't get us anywhere. So it's really about appreciating the little things that the sun. Today it rained. I was so happy it rained because please need a, to be fed. So little things like that, you know, just, just really being joyful.
I love it. I, I think that's a, that's a beautiful way of just pulling this one into the station. Dr. Seagull, thank you so much. We're going to put your links, how to find you, your courses in the show notes everybody. If you got something out of this show, please give it a likes. Give us a thumbs up. Go out there, give us a five star review, let people know what you learned today. It's a way that you can fire and wire and keep it, keep your learning going and share, share that love. This is where the information's coming. It's not coming from the propaganda box of the tv. It's coming right here in the interwebs, right direct to you. So thank you all for showing up by.
