EP 50: WTH ?!? GMOs, Protect Nature Now Campaign with Jeffrey Smith

Jeffrey Smith, founder of the Institute for Responsible Technology, argues that GMOs and gene editing pose an urgent threat to natural ecosystems with poorly regulated risks of irreversible genetic changes. He discusses health implications and why organic choices matter as protection.

All right, welcome back, everybody. I am Dr. Greg Eckel and this is what the Health. I have an awesome guest today, Jeffrey Smith. He has been getting the word out around genetically modified organisms and our food for probably two decades. You can correct me if I'm wrong on that. Meticulous research has made him world authority on the health dangers of genetically modified organisms. He's the founder of the Institute for Responsible Technology, author of best selling book Seeds of Deception, and the producer of the award winning field Genetic the Gamble of Our Lives. Our topic. So, number one, welcome aboard, Jeffrey.
Thank you so much, Dr. Gregg.
Yeah, and we have a mysterious topic today. You know, I kind of, we dubbed it the GMOs and protect nature now campaign. But the moniker that we're going for and we're going to just launch with that is there's an enormous new threat you probably don't know much about. Right. This is exactly what everybody wants to hear today. It's not climate chaos and it's not dying oceans. It's not depleted soils or widespread chemical pollution, and it's not a fricking virus. So in fact, if we magically reverse all of those problems, we still may lose the natural world that we cherish. So it is big, it's unregulated, it's a wild west gene rush, and it's already happening. So the replacement of nature with corrupted DNA is upon us. And that is our topic today. And we're going to go a couple different facets, but dang, that's where we're starting. And I think this is such an important message, especially now. So where, Jeffrey, you are out in the trenches daily. So, number one, did I get it right? Has it been two decades or longer?
24 years. 24 years.
Okay.
And I also have had a movie out since that intro was written. I have a movie called Secret Ingredients I did with Amy Hart, which is I can talk about later in the context of completely changing your health by changing your diet, which is simply stunning. But now I think we'll start off as you gave such a good introduction to a threat which 8 out of 8 audiences that I spoke to before the lockdown rated it as more serious than climate chaos. And so what could be more serious, more threatening, more dangerous than. And by the way, these were not climate deniers that rated that. There was. Some of those groups were at conferences that were upholding and promoting the concerns about climate chaos. So this is something that most people have no idea what it is, but when they find out, it's like what the world changes and our role in the world changes, our role as human beings. And here's what it is. We have arrived, Dr. Greg, at an inevitable time in human history where we can very easily reorder the code of life, the DNA, and redirect the streams of evolution for all time. We have not arrived at a time where we can stop that once we put it into motion, once we've introduced genetically modified corn, it's part of the gene pool of corn, and it will be for forever unless some science fiction future provides a way to undo that. We have Understood, based on 25 years of experience with GMOs that have been released, that the most common result of the technology is surprise side effects. We've been focusing. I've been focusing. Our Institute for Responsible Technology has been focusing on genetically modified foods. And before the end of the hour, we can visit how the foods and the roundup herbicides sprayed on most GMOs are wreaking havoc with our health and how we can make fantastic turnaround opportunities for health simply by switching to organic to avoid those two toxins. But now that you can buy a gene editing kit. Gene editing is a different form of genetic engineering than what was used to create the genetically engineered soybeans and corn that were introduced in the 90s. It is a very dangerous, very unpredictable technology that is being touted as safe and predictable. And it is so cheap you can buy a Do It Yourself gene editing kit on Amazon for $169. Really, you can not only do that, but for a couple of thousand, you can create a laboratory and start pumping out all sorts of variations, particularly in the microbes. And you could be creating organisms that never existed upon Earth, ever. And you can create organisms that are unique to your laboratory and you can do an environmental release just by flushing them down the toilet. And that organism that you create or that species that you create could wreak havoc, and it's irreversibly corrupting the gene pool. So what we're looking at generically, and I'm going to talk generically, and then we're going to dial down to what actually could go wrong based on some real life near miss scenarios where we may have ended terrestrial plant life on the planet or changed weather patterns from two separate genetically modified organisms that were nearly released. So it gets very science fiction esque, but it's all defensible. It's all real science. Okay.
Yeah, boil that down because, like, I know, like, we may have lost half of our viewers already, right? Because we're, you know, because it's like, oh, my gosh, like I want to put my head back in the sand. Like one, they're talking about editing DNA. And so that's one that.
