Well, here we are in the Synthesis recording studio and we're very fortunate today. I'm very fortunate to have Dr. Pamela Smith as my guest. She's going to be our functional medicine update July 2010 guest. But I thought I would just share a little vignette of her presence with you in that we've been talking about the extraordinary background and contributions she's made as a practitioner in internal medicine, but also as a leader in the development of curriculum, teaching and training in in the area of functional metabolic and anti aging medicine. So Dr. Smith, thanks so much for being with us. It's a real treat to actually have you in studio and on camera. Maybe you can just give a quick kind of precis to what's led you here to Gig harbor and also this extraordinary new curriculum you've developed at the medical college in Florida.
Well, I'm very blessed to be here. Thank you very much. This is Gig harbor is one of the most beautiful places and I'm very happy to come and meet with you and work with you. What has happened now is a fellowship in metabolic and anti aging medicine, which is also one in functional medicine, has now become a Master's degree at the University of South Florida College of Medicine. And this is for all kinds of clinicians. It's for people who are MDs, DOs, PhDs, chiropractors, naturopaths, nurse clinicians, exercise physiologists, PAs, etc. And we're all coming together to help the patient in taking a master's degree that you can do if you're actively practicing. And it's 10 courses that are in person, one course online. And what it does is it looks at a functional medicine approach to medicine, the future of medicine. And it's three days at a time. And besides the three days, every Monday night we do a two hour webinar which is really grand rounds. There are too many open book exams and three case histories per course. And it's really been very exciting. We now have 1,700 people in the fellowship master's program and we have our first one's about to graduate very shortly and we're now going forward more as one voice looking at the idea of what we can do to help patients from a functional medicine approach.
Well, I can tell you, having had the privilege of knowing Dr. Smith for more than 10 years, she is a clinician's clinician. She's done extraordinary work in her clinical practice in Michigan. Now jumping back and forth between Florida and Michigan and the development of this curriculum. This is one of those people in the world that we can say is a talk less, do more type person. And I feel very privileged that you're in our field and creating this opportunity for so many other practitioners to move themselves up self development through this advocacy that you've developed with the college. So thank you all for all of us. And where can people find out more about the program if they're interested?
