So let's talk about August 2014 Functional Medicine Update. The clinician and Researcher of the Month happens to be none other than me. Why me? That seems like an interesting person to interview in the month of August. It's because I'm sitting in a bridging position in the month of August between two extraordinary components of the emerging frontier of medicine, this systems biology approach to healthcare. On one side we have those interviews that we've done with Dr. Eric Schott at Mount Sinai School of Medicine with his extraordinary work on translational genomics, and Dr. Lee Hood, founder and president of the Institute for Systems Biology in Seattle and developer of the instrumentation that's actually allowed for the human genome to be sequenced. And on the other side is Dr. Jennifer Lovejoy, who you'll hear in September who is going to be talking about the application of this big data in the Pioneer 100 study that's being done on 100 individuals who are having their microbiomes and their genomes and their phenomes all monitored over a million data points and how that will sequence down into understanding how personalized programs should be developed for each one of them. And the bridge between the two is the bench to bedside conversation that I'm going to be having with you in August in Functional Medicine Update. I'm very excited about this because I've been able to take some of the high arching scientific principles and kind of focus them down into clinically applicable areas, type 2 diabetes, dementia, autoimmune disease, cardiovascular disease, talking about how do these constructs really relate to patient management, patient centered care, and improving health outcome in the area of chronic disease management utilizing this systems biology functional medicine approach. So look forward to sharing with you in August of 2014.
