Interview excerpt (July 2011) with Edwin Lephart describing research on “Equil” and its effects on skin biology. Lephart reports in vitro and gene-array data (≈40 genes examined) showing that Equil at very low concentrations (10 nanomolar in vitro) enhances collagen and elastin expression while decreasing matrix metalloproteases (MMPs) that degrade those proteins. He also states Equil stimulates antioxidant/anti‑aging genes and that the compound has been translated into a commercial cosmetic product with positive skin‑health effects.
