This is an announcement/introduction by Jeffrey Bland, PhD, describing a newly produced three-part Functional Medicine Update series on Functional Oncology. The series features interviews with leading clinicians and researchers (a husband-and-wife team called the Vashis on gastroenterological and immunologic approaches, Edgar Staren on immune-based and genomics-driven individualized cancer therapies, and Tom Brown on individualized care and prevention). The speaker frames the series as state-of-the-art, clinically integrated, and both informative and inspirational for beating cancer.

For the past 34 years, I have the incredible opportunity to be involved every month in the production of an audio magazine, Functional Medicine Update, where I've had the privilege of interviewing some of the great thought leaders in healthcare and medicine and biomedicine over this period of more than three decades. And what I've learned is that through these lenses we start to see the shape of the new medicine. And that's why I'm so excited about a series that we've just produced, a three part series for Functional Medicine Update on Functional Oncology. And we have extraordinary presenters, thought leaders, researchers, investigators, clinicians who are representing the state of the art. In this presentation series. The Vashis, a husband and wife team from Chicago, talk about both the gastroenterological approach towards the immune system and cancer and internal medicine oncology, this kind of dual role that they play in managing patients in an institutional setting with an integrated approach towards cancer therapy. Then we follow that with an incredible discussion with Edgar Staran who tells us about the evolution of immune based cancer therapies and where we're going in this whole new age of individualized cancer therapy based upon genomic evaluation. And then we have the close with Dr. Tom Brown who is a very esteemed medical oncologist who has had experience at MD Anderson and the University of Arizona and now is the head of the Swedish Cancer center and in Seattle, Washington and talking to us about the extraordinary next steps that are being taken in individualizing cancer care and how that all relates both to treatment and prevention, and his advocacy for prevention. So this is an amazing three part series I think you're very much going to enjoy. It's a lot of news to use as well as very inspiring about where the landscape is taking us and what we're going to do to really beat back this rising tide of cancer. So this three part series, Functional Medicine Update on Functional Oncology, I think you'll find an extraordinary contribution to your knowledge and growth and development.
