Why Are You Unmotivated To Pray? | Dr. Mike Woods

In this impromptu live‑stream sermon, Dr. Mike Woods confronts the widespread lack of motivation to pray. He attributes prayerlessness to several spiritual and practical factors: the enemy’s deliberate opposition, performance‑based worship that limits personal devotion, disbelief in prayer’s effectiveness, and the distraction of social media. Woods outlines a purpose‑driven prayer protocol—find a Scripture promise that covers the need, ask God according to that promise, believe the answer will come, and rejoice before seeing results. He stresses that true prayer rests on redemption‑granted authority and faith, not emotional displays. Purpose is presented as the raw material for answered prayer, and redemption provides the legal right to invoke God’s power. The message culminates in a fervent appeal for financial support to launch a new Rada TV network, details of upcoming church events, and a closing prayer asking listeners to regain motivation for prayer in 2025.

All right, well, praise the Lord, everybody. I pray you're well tonight. Um, Y'all come in really quick. This is really impromptu, is really out of sync with how I do things, but at the end of the day, this thing was on my heart and I truly want to drop this message really quickly like it's hot. Alright, so you guys come in and I believe that you're gonna be blessed by this. So if you're here live or by replay, I need you to share it. I'm not gonna be long. This is a real quick— I just jumped in front of the camera. The Lord gave me this, and so we jumped in front of the camera, and here we are. We're gonna share it. So if you're here, please comment below, say hello, please like and share, the normal things that we do, guys. Do that for me, whether you're coming in live or by replay, because I believe this word is, uh, extremely important. Some of you are going to catch this, uh, through our podcast as you download the recording, um, and some of you are on the way home right now, uh, in your car. So I want to challenge you, glory to God, to just stay with me for about 15 minutes. I promise you I'm not going to be long because I, I really sense that there are a lot of people on this planet, and you know, you gotta be real honest to admit this. If you deep and wonderful, um, you're not gonna get this. And if you want everybody to believe you pray more than everybody else, you're not gonna receive this. But at the end of the day, I'm gonna tell you, God dropped it in my heart, he dropped it in my spirit. He said, son, there are a lot of people who are actually unmotivated to pray. And, um, as I begin to think about it, you know, I have been in a season like that myself, where in my life there have been certain seasons where I had no motivation to pray. And, uh, I started trying to pinpoint why I felt like that, you know, before I got on here today, because again, I felt this burden of many of you, you know, you have these quick conversations with God, and you really don't spend time with him in prayer. And you come up with many excuses as to why you don't do it, which in reality, if you could find time to do anything else, you definitely need to find time to do the most important thing on this planet, which is pray, people. All right, so, uh, I'mma dive into this, man. Like I said, I'm not going to be long, uh, I'm going to drop it like it's hot, uh, but I, I, I want to get it off me and I want to give it to you because, you know, I want you to understand why you're unmotivated. You know, first of all, one of the main reasons— the enemy, he does not want you to pray, period. So you're, you're not motivated to pray because the enemy is creating circumstance to make you feel like God is not hearing you when you pray anyway. And some of you have thrown up the towel and said, well, what's the use? You know, I'm not getting any answers. You know, I'm praying. And as a matter of fact, there may be people listening to this, uh, live or by replay, you've been, you've been praying for years, all right? And you still, you know, not getting any response, any answers. But I want to help you today. I want to help you get, you know, a desire to spend time with God, man. So I want you to write this down. You know, first of all, again, write it down if you need to so you can go back to this. One of the reasons you're not motivated to pray is because the enemy— there's a real devil. I don't care what people are saying, that ain't no devil. And there ain't no hell. The devil, the devil is a liar is what he is. And, um, he has shown up on earth as a spirit and the power of the air that's influencing people to take actions that are anti-God, to go against their relationship with God, with the Father. And the reality is there are many of you again, you're unmotivated, and I'm talking about spending real time with God. There are a lot of people, man, they are performance-based people. So they'll pray in church— watch this, oh my God— because they're performance-based, but they don't pray at home. Oh, they spend no time at all with God at home. That's a problem. So again, I just like to look at my own life. And so one, I understand it's the enemy throwing it, but let's, let's talk about how he has that door, because the Bible says the idle mind is the devil's workshop. If you're just joining us, I'm not gonna be long. Please share this. Glory to God. I just jumped on here, man. It's 4 o'clock, 5 o'clock in the evening. Some of you probably just getting off work or whatever, getting settled in, but please grab this because I want you to understand as we cross over into this new year, um, prayer has never been optional. All right, prayer has always been something we should always do. The Bible says men shall— should always pray, hear me, and not faint. And I think right now I'm streaming about 5 different, uh, platforms. So wherever you're watching, YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, um, please guys, uh, share this, like this, comment below, let us know you're here. The reality is, man, But the enemy don't want you to pray, all right? And it's something that you should have always done, you should continue to do. He wants to block that, he wants to steal your faith, he wants to steal the joy of prayer, all right? And as we move into this new year, hear me guys, hear me prophetically and apostolically. Some of what I say over the next few minutes, and I'm not going to be long, may sound very aggressive, okay? But I— let me apologize in advance if anything I say offends you, because that, that's not my, my motive. My motive is to edify you and to build you up. But you can't be out here scrolling social media all day long, watching posts, liking posts, and you don't have a prayer life. You don't have a study life. You never open your Bible. You never spend time with God in prayer. Man, that's a problem. And part of the reason you do that is because you're looking for gratification through social media posts that one is going to stroke your laziness to not pray. Because many of you are unmotivated to pray. Glory to God, because you just don't have the discipline of execution to pray. But again, as we go into this new year, you're gonna have to spend some prime time with God. Because for those of us that have relationship with God, those of us that spend time, we're going to experience sweatless victory through execution next year. Hear me, we're going to experience sweatless victory through execution next year. I need you to hear this, guys. Glory to God. And you, you gotta be a person of execution. You got to be a person who says, I'm not going to let my life get so busy that it steals my zeal, my motivation to pray. Listen, you get out of bed in the morning, you do 4 other things before you think about praying, it's because you've lost your motivation. So here's, here's another reason There's another reason why you're not motivated to pray. I want you to write it down. Glory to God. It's because you're not convinced— watch this— that prayer actually produces results. Most of you are unmotivated to pray because you haven't— you're not really convinced that praying actually works. Because listen, if you were convinced that prayer actually works, you would actually pray. Oh my God, it's just as simple. Ain't no rocket science. I'm not squinting my eyes. I'm not deep and wonderful right now. I'm just trying to talk to you as your brother. And if I'm your leader, I'm trying to talk to you as your leader. You're going to have to get some motivation to spend time with God, but you're going to have to be convinced that prayer works in order for you to do it. It produces results. Or secondly, your lack of motivation can come from the fact that you have not experienced the reality of answered prayers. So you don't believe prayer work, and then because when you prayed in the past, you have not experienced the reality of God actually answering prayer, So you get lazy and you stop praying. Listen, ladies and gentlemen, that is not the will of the Father. That is not God's plan for your life. That is not the way God functions or does things. Hear me, hear me good. I want you to realize something for real. When God interferes with your life, when he gets involved, He only does it as a response to your request, your prayers, and it requires faith to believe he's going to do that. But watch this, God's not going to get involved if you don't talk to him, okay? So we— because we want him to answer us, and the reason God instituted prayer— hear this— is because he really has a desire to answer your request. Watch this: ask and it shall be given, seek and ye shall find, knock and the door shall be open. Take the A off ask, the S off seek, the K off knock, you still got ass. You still got prayer. Glory to God. God wants us to engage him. So I'm, I want to motivate you to pray because I'm telling you, as we go into this new set of days, your prayer life is going to have to be tight because it's going to get worse before it gets better for a lot of people. But for those of us that are in the throes of prayer with our King, he's He's going to take care of us and he's going to provide for us. People that are going through struggles unnecessarily are people that don't pray. I'm just going to tell you right now, you better spend some time with God. I gotta go, I gotta go. So he wants to answer prayer, but here, here it is. This is what you got to get. He's not just going to answer your prayers because of legal act— oh my God, activity. Ooh, ooh, because you just doing legalistic, ritualistic activity. Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy, oh boy. He's gonna respond to faith. So let me give you a quick Bible study on prayer. The first thing you need to do when you pray, so you don't waste time, because again, he wants to answer you, you need to get out the Bible, all right, or think in your head about scripture you know and find a promise that stud— oh my God, that, whoo, that staples itself to your need or covers your need. So if you need finances, you need to find scripture that relates to God providing finances or supplying finances. Once you find the promise that covers your needs, secondly You ask God to do the promise. So once you find the promise that covers what you need, you ask him according to his word— hear me— to perform that promise. Oh my God, oh my God, oh my God. Thirdly, you believe when you pray that you receive what you ask. So I find the promise that covers my need, I I ask him to do what he promised, because the Bible said in 1 John, if I ask anything according to his will, he'll do it. So his will is his word. So I find the promise, ask him to do it. Alicia, I see you're coming there. Listen, I don't want you to just say that, because there are a lot of people when they hear a message like this, they get convicted immediately and they say, oh, I'm just going to spend more time with God. I'm going to do what I got to do. Listen, I need you to do that for real. Your life will change if you spend time with God. Hallelujah. For real. Don't just say it. Don't just talk about it. I really want you to be about it. Glory to God. Hallelujah. Hallelujah. You gotta find the promise in scripture that covers your need. Ask God to do the promise. 3, believe when you pray that you receive what you're asking for. Hear me, hear me. Not after you get through praying, while you're saying it, you need to have faith that what he said he'll do, he'll do. You need to become convinced that the word is right and he can't lie. And then finally, you need to get out of prayer and rejoice before the results. You need to give God praise before you see the manifestation of what you asked for. Praise him like you already got what you talk to him about. It's that simple. Find a promise, cover your knee, all right? Ask him to do the promise. Believe when you pray. Rejoice before the results. Very simple, very simple. But I'm telling you, if you ask anything according to his will, the Bible says he does it. And so some of you are unmotivated to pray because possibly you have not been getting results because you've been praying legalistically. You've been praying wrong. Glory to God. And many of you may have think, okay, well, just because I pray, God's gonna do it anyhow. Well, if you don't believe, he ain't gonna just do it anyhow. And then what you got to realize is prayer— here we go, I said I'm gonna get this deep into this today, but I'm out here now. Prayer is— I'm supposed to already be off. I've been on 20 minutes. Listen, prayer is your earthly license for heavenly interference. Woo! Shabba natai! Oh God, have mercy. Prayer is your earthly license for heavenly interference. I— oh boy, I need y'all to hear that. So God, again, on the flip side, legally he will not interfere just— oh my God— just because he can. He's only going to come because he's been invited through prayer. Oh boy, oh boy. So when you become convinced that God will interfere when I pray, you'll pray, man. Glory to God. And you'll spend time with him. You will make prayer a priority. Oh God, help your people today get the motivation to pray back. And for those that are hearing this, them that are unmotivated to pray, let them get it back. Hear me, if you want to see prayer answered— because I want to get your motivation up, because that's what's going to help you. When you see answered prayer, it's going to make you pray. You gotta follow some protocols. I just gave you 4 things. I'm gonna give you a couple of more things and I'm gonna be out of here. I said I won't get this deep in this, but prayer is not just talking to God. Prayer is coming as an inferior to a superior, understanding that that superior owns you and everything else. And that he has the authority and power to grant unto you your request according to his word. And that's how you come. You don't come— you— so when you come to somebody that's superior to you, you humble yourself. You don't come like you can control him. You, you enter his gates with thanksgiving, with worship. You enter his courts with praise. You say, this is the day that the Lord has made. He is superior. I I'm going to rejoice, I'm going to give him glory. Ah, you got to go through some, some protocol. So on what basis— let, let's, let's just get in this real quick— does God answer us? Because I want to get your motivation back. I want to get you motivated to pray because you're going to need a prayer life in 2025. I want to get you motivated to pray. Hear me, hear me, family. I want to get you motivated to pray. So on what basis does God answer us, especially since we understand God is not just going to answer, and praying, just talking to God? And watch this, you can actually talk to God and not receive answers. Been there, done How do you eliminate that? How, how do you increase your success rate in prayer? Oh boy, here we go, here we go. How do you increase your success rate in prayer where you're actually getting answers? I've been there, man. Well, I have prayed, nothing happened. I have talked to God, He didn't move at all. And God said to me, he says, son— and I want you to write this down and remember this, type it in the comments if you need to— prayer, ooh, has its foundation in purpose. Okay, here we go. So purpose is the raw material for prayer. Oh boy, oh boy. Purpose, which is the original intent for the creation of a thing. The Bible says in Proverbs 19— I don't have time to go there— 19:21, many are the plans, the desires, the dreams, the visions in a man's heart, but it's the Lord's purpose that stands. So you got a lot of stuff you want to do. You and I, we got plans that we have But the thing that prevails, the thing that stands, the things that God responds to is his purpose. So the raw material of answered prayer— hear me— is purpose. Okay, here we go. So I'm telling you, you cannot use God for your own purposes and desires. You cannot use God. Thank you for saying that, Stephanie. Good God, I didn't know why I was getting on here at 5 o'clock today, and I don't know who I'm helping, but I pray to God this is helping somebody. Because what I do not want— I love all of my followers, I love all of the people. And listen, you know, we don't have millions of followers, but at the end of the day, I love the people that are committed to hear and apply the things that we teach and preach to your life. It is very important. Thank you so much for saying that, Stephanie. Listen, you need to understand— hear me, family— that your purpose clarity concerning why you are on this earth becomes so significant to what you pray, because you can't use God for your own desires and your own will. Prayer is a tool designed to produce results inside of God's purpose and plan for your life on Earth. Oh boy, I wish I had to have a church. Glory to God. I'm gonna venture out to say this. I'm gonna say it. Prayer answered by God is only prayer that is prayed to bring his purpose to pass. So if it's helping bring God's purpose to pass in your life, pray about it. So I said I wasn't gonna dig like this today on this, But I'm telling you, don't go into this new year, glory to God, without— strengthening your prayer life and having clarity about purpose. And watch this, it's hard to get clarity about purpose. Hear me, family, and I'm gonna help you, and I'm gonna help you right here. When you don't have a prayer life, because God will show you in revelation, in prayer, what your purpose is. Secondly, when you're not in a culture where there are prophetic people who can speak into the life of your purpose, confirming what God has said— I'm not talking about a bunch of people that want to be prophetic and they're actually pathetic. I'm talking about actually prophetic people who can see. And listen, that's why you need to be around gifted people, so you— what is in you, who you are, why you are here can be confirmed. Oh boy, oh boy, glory to God. Oh boy. So to have an effective prayer life, that's all I'm saying. You need to discover God's purpose for your life, the reason you exist as a human. And watch this, specifically as an individual person, what are you here to do? Why were you born? Only your manufacturer knows that answer, and only the mouths of the prophets and prophetic people can confirm that. Oh, your mama don't know that if your mama ain't prophetic. I love my mama, but my mama— glory to the name of God— she wasn't clear about my purpose when I was young. Y'all not talking to me. My daddy, on the other hand, who is a prophet, he knew who I was. Oh, Shabaya, Mantor, Rakisa, Rebekah. Oh, Tata, Mansa. Yes, God. Oh God, he knew who I was. So you gotta be in culture that sees who you are. Oh my God. 'Cause once you understand purpose, now you could pray for anything according to his will, his purpose. Watch this again, we just talked about it in 1 John. Find a promise that covers your need. Ask anything according to his will. His will is his word. His will is his purpose for your life. Oh, so if you're praying for anything that helps you fulfill purpose, you could be sure and certain that God is gonna answer. I love him, I love him, I love him. Oh, Rabban Sihaya. So when you pray for provision, healing, deliverance, protection, boldness, peace, and supply to fulfill your needs and God's purpose, guess what? God is going to answer. Again, so on what basis does God answer us? One, purpose is the raw material for prayer. Number two, I want you to write this down: redemption. Write it down, redemption. Has given us the authority to pray. All right, so it— I want you to be clear. A person who is not born again, hear me, does not have authority to invite God to interfere on Earth. Only thing they have the authority to do in prayer is invite God in their life. Once they do that, they have a legal right now to pray. But sinners, they ain't doing much praying anyway. But people who are not redeemed, who are not born again— glory to God— because redemption gives us the right to use the name of Jesus. Oh, I feel like running, y'all. I won't— I said I wasn't gonna be on here this long. I gotta go. I really, I really gotta go. But the fact that you're born again, it gives you the right to use his name. It gives you access to God. Redemption gives you authority over Satan and sin. That's why all these Christians that's playing the grace card and still living in sin— I don't get it, because when you redeem, you got authority over sin. You shouldn't keep living in the same sin. Oh, oh boy, I gotta go, I gotta go. Something should be different about you. Glory to God. So now that you're a citizen of the Kingdom of Heaven and you've been redeemed, heaven is open to respond to you. So purpose is the raw material. Glory to God. Secondly, redemption gives you access and authority to pray. Number 3, watch this, and I'm, and I'm done. Prayer. Hear me, listen, because I'm trying to get you motivated to pray. Because you're gonna need it in 2025. Outside of all of the deep stuff you gonna hear, people gonna say this is the year this, this is the year that. I'm telling you, you need to be executing in the area of prayer, and prayer is going to be the change you want to see in your life. Number 3, hear this: prayer in power. Listen, I'm gonna move up close to this camera so y'all can see my face. That's it. Prayer in power does not emerge from emotions. You know how people get emotional when they pray? Whoo! And they cry, they groan, they scream, they murmur. Listen, crying murmuring, groaning, screaming. None of this moves heaven. Okay, okay. All right, okay. I'm just gonna tell you, God is not going to respond to your emotional tantrums 'cause he is God. God, I know this is hard. I told you in the beginning, some of what I may say might be offensive to your religious way of doing things, but this is possibly again, why you're not getting answers. I'm just being 100, totally 100 with you. You're probably not getting answers in prayer, and you have not seen the reality of God moving in prayer and encounters in prayer because you're praying religiously. Woo! Shandia! Oh God, are you not getting the breakthrough? Thank you, Bruce Gunn. No, sir. I did not get on here to stay on here this long. This is all the Holy Spirit. Glory to the name of God. Listen, all that crying, all that murmuring, all that screaming— God responds to faith. You know, even how we get in church and we be trying to pray in a— pray in the right key and got the organ going behind us. It may sound good, it may have you feeling goosebumps and pimples, but prayer that moves God has to be coupled with faith. That scripture, Stephanie Holmes, has nothing to do with emotions. That's fire. That effectual is continual. The Greek word means to be continual, so it means to continue to pray prayers of fire. Matter of fact, the word effectual deals with prayers that consume from the realm of the spirit, fueled by faith, not noise. And watch this, noise is not the anointing. Oh boy, glory to God. I'm a classical Pentecostal by nature. I, I grew up with organs, drums. We have, we, we have good church. I love church. But in the end of the day, there's a level that we move into that's beyond good church, where we tap into portals and we tap into new dimensions and environments of glory that produces results. Oh, hey Pam, thank you, thank you so much. I didn't even see you all here. God bless you, lady, good to see you. Listen, I need you to understand, people, Glory to God. Because, because here's what we'll do. And again, no offense, I said this earlier, Stephanie, no offense to anyone. Something I say may sound aggressive to your process, but at the end of the day, it's not to offend you, it's to build you up so you can see results. Can I tell you something? I prayed a lot of screaming prayers. I'm gonna tell you, I used to tune up when I pray. I'd be by myself tuning up. In the name of Jesus. And I give God glory. And guess what? Because it wasn't coupled with faith, I didn't get no results. Because it's— it moved my emotion, but it didn't move heaven. Oh God, I give you the glory. I give you the glory. So again, crying, groaning, screaming, murmuring don't move heaven. God acts based upon his word and his will. Remember I just said it, 1 John 5, if you ask anything according to his will, he will do it. His will is his word. His will, thehelia in Greek, is his purpose and plan for your life. I have seen God move mountains by just praying the word. Glory to God. Woo! I've seen him heal bodies. I've seen blinded eyes open. I'll never forget— I've seen so many miracles in my ministry, but there was one service I was in, in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. There was a little boy who was deaf from birth. This is the first time I had ever prayed for a deaf person. And the Spirit of the Lord spoke to me. He said, "Son, I want you to simply call the little boy up here, and I want you to put your fingers in his ear and believe that he's going to receive his hearing." First of all, I didn't even know that the little boy was deaf. All of this was revealed by the Holy Ghost. I called the little boy up, put my fingers in his ear just like the Lord said. I didn't scream. I didn't yell. I just said, Father, I thank you that you said you will give this boy hearing, and I thank you that now in the name of Jesus he will hear, because with your stripes— here's the word— he is healed. I took my fingers out of his ear and immediately the little boy started screaming. And I'm like, okay, he's screaming. And the Lord said, no worry about that. He's hearing for the first time. It was his first time encountering sound. So all he knew in response was to scream. So the Holy Spirit took me through this whole process to calm him down. And me and him started having conversations. His mama's in tears. His daddy's in tears. He's rejoicing because now he has the beauty of sound. Watch this, provided by the Holy Ghost. Wasn't emotion, it was faith, it was power. I didn't— now, can I tell you something? I've been in ministry full-time for 35 years. Can I tell you something? There were times before that incident that I done greased folk down with oil, hollered and prayed, and they still didn't get healed. The difference wasn't the emotion. The difference was faith. The difference was the authority of the word. Oh boy, I'm just trying to help you, man. So when you get out of prayer, you don't have a good cry— if that crying coupled with faith and the word, and you ain't praying the word, heaven not gonna move. You just got a good cry. I'm sorry. Listen, praying God's will, his word, is the superhighway, the expressway, the train track to answer prayer. That's how you get prayers answered. And through believing him by faith, you gotta trust and believe when you pray. I covered this in the beginning. Man, I've been on here way too long. I got to go, y'all. I got to go. So here's what all I said today is: having a relationship with God means you got to prioritize him. You got to make him important. You got to get some prime time with him and make him absolutely important in your life. Let's pray. Father, in Jesus' name, I pray for every person under the sound of my voice, and I decree and declare, God, that they will find a motivation to pray. That, God, they will take the simple principles we've given them, that they will find a promise in their— in the word that covers their need. And then secondly, they will ask you to do that promise. And God, that they will then believe when they pray. And then fourthly, they will rejoice before the results. I thank you, God, that they will realize that purpose is the raw material of answered prayer. I thank you, God, that they will discover who they are. I thank you for clear revelation of who they are in the name of Jesus. I thank you, God, that they will understand their authority through your blood and through redemption to invite heaven into their life. Ababa. We thank you that they will realize that emotions are not the basis for answered prayer, but answered prayer emerges from faith in the word. And I give you praise and glory for that now in Jesus' name. Amen and amen. Praise God. Guys, I love y'all so much. Thank y'all so much for joining me. This was so important. On to. And I'm glad for those of you that got on that this word has actually been a blessing to you. Glory to God. I'm thankful for that. Please do me a favor and share it if you, if you know someone that needs a pep in their prayer life, because I'm telling you, in 2025 they're going to need it. Listen, I want to challenge you to be a support to the ministry. Glory to the name of God. We can't do what we do without your support. Listen, I'm embarking on something so great. God has given me an opportunity to start our own network, our own Rada TV network, where we'll be able to be seen on Roku TV, Fire TV, Apple TV, which means you can turn on your TV, go to our app. We're gonna host not only different ministries but Christian content. Christian movies on this station. Listen, I need your help to get this done because we're believing God that as we do this, have our own news outlet, we have our— we're going to have prophetic and apostolic networks that will stream, glory to God, through our station. That's going to be life-changing to everybody that tunes in. We literally want to see God dominate this. I need your help. Get seed in the ground, guys. I need, glory to God, every one of you that can to make a sacrifice. There are many of you listening to me right now. If, if every person that's listening to me— I'm over 5 different platforms right now— if every person would get a seed in the ground of $100 right now, I want you to do it. I, I'm— I need you to understand that Nothing leaves heaven until something leaves earth. And whenever God talks to you about a seed, he has a future on his mind. Get your seed in the ground.
