A short educational YouTube presentation by Dr. Patti Yik (naturopathic doctor) explaining how chronic stress — via elevated cortisol — can disrupt reproductive hormones (estrogen, progesterone, LH in women; testosterone in men) and negatively affect fertility (irregular cycles, delayed or missed ovulation, reduced sperm count/motility/quality). The video then outlines practical, evidence-aligned stress-reduction strategies (meditation, yoga, journaling, improved sleep, diet, emotional support) and naturopathic therapies (acupuncture, IV nutrient therapy, nutritional and botanical support), and ends with a call-to-action to book a consultation or download resources from drpattyik.com.

If you're trying to conceive, you may already be aware that fertility is influenced by many factors such as hormones, nutrition and age, to name a few. However, one piece of the puzzle that's often overlooked or not emphasized enough is stress. Hi, I'm Dr. Patty Yick, naturopathic doctor who help couples in their fertility journey. Today we're going to explore the strong and powerful connection between stress and fertility. I'm going to explain how stress can disrupt your reproductive health and share practical steps to help you manage it, giving your body the best chance to conceive when your body's stressed. Your body. Your body produces a hormone called cortisol. While this is a part of your body's natural fight or flight response, chronic stress leads to consistently high levels of cortisol. And that's where the problem begins. High cortisol levels can disrupt key reproductive hormones like estrogen, progesterone and luteinizing hormone. For women, this can lead to irregular cycles, delayed ovulation or even missed periods. For men, stress impacts fertility as well. Elevated cortisol decreases testosterone, which can lower sperm count, impair motility and even impact sperm quality. The good news is that there are simple, effective ways to reduce stress and support fertility. Let's explore a few strategies that you can use today. You can start with some relaxation practices like meditation, yoga or journaling. These activities can lower cortisol levels and promote a sense of calm which benefits both your mind and your hormones. Good quality sleep is critical for balancing hormones and supporting hormone production. You can combine this with fertility friendly diet, rich in whole foods, healthy fats and antioxidants to nourish your body. Don't underestimate the power of emotional support. Whether it's a trusted friend, partner or therapist, having someone to talk to can help the emotional side of your fertility journey. Finally, there are many naturopathic tools to help things such as acupuncture, intravenous nutrient therapy, nutritional support, as well as botanical medicine are extremely helpful at helping people manage stress. Stress can feel overwhelming, but small steps can make a large difference in your fertility journey.
