Hi, everybody. I'm Dr. Sandhya Moldovan, periodontist and nutritionist. Welcome to the Holistic Dentistry Podcast, the show that gives you the tips and tools to detoxify your mouth for a healthier body. As we explore together the root cause of disease. Remember, you're not healthy until your mouth is healthy, so take care of it in the most natural way.
Hi, everyone. Welcome to today's show. We're going to be talking about colon hydrotherapy, and I'm so excited to have with me today Ms. Talia Meldi. Today, Ms. Meldy has given over 15,000 successful Colon Hydro sessions worldwide. With over 25 years of experience, Talia founded Clear Way to health within in 2008. She has a peaceful holistic health center located in Los Angeles near the beaches of Santa Monica. Her clients, students, and other local health professionals work collaboratively to create many detoxification strategies that are effective because of the accumulation of waste in the colon, which is really the human garbage can, as you like to call it. We need to empty this on a regular basis, and I am a big believer in detoxification. I've had colon hydrotherapy sessions. So I'm so excited, Thalia, that you're here today so we can shed some light on this topic because we hear so many things out there. Oh, stay away from colon hydrotherapy, you know, to really mess you up or people really love it. Maybe I want to talk to you about. Can we overdo it? So I think there's a lot of questions or a lot of myths surrounding this topic, and you have an extensive experience. You could really help us shed light on this. So welcome to the show.
Thank you. And thank you for having me this morning.
Of course. So what is colon hydrotherapy for people maybe who've never done it and want to know more.
Okay. Well, luckily, we have really stepped it up as far as technology goes, and current colon hydrotherapy is a safe and effective method of removing waste from the large intestine without the use of drugs. Okay. That's really important because you're talking about water flowing, and we're what, 70, 80, 90% water? So that means once you start addressing the colon and the colon is actually empty, it has an effect on the lymph system, which is also fluid, which has an effect on blood. So we get a couple different kinds of people. One is people that are doing it preventatively and come because they like the feeling of feeling empty. It's a wonderful feeling.
I can relate to that. My brain was so clear when I did hydrotherapy. And you know, I'm like, wow, and I slept better because there's such a strong connection between the gut and the brain.
Exactly. And sleeping is very important. So what we're doing is we're introducing pure filtered and temperature regulated water into the colon so the human waste is softened and loosened, resulting in the evacuation eventually. It may not be the first time, but there's a couple of things. One is softening for evacuation and the other is stimulating peristalsis and exercising what they call lazy colon. And basically you have movement from your mouth all the way down. And if at the end stage things aren't moving, then that continues back up again. I call that the volcano effect.
Yeah, absolutely. And that results in bad breath.
Absolutely, absolutely. The process is usually repeated a few times. And every time that you do it, it becomes easier and easier because you get used to the fact that things are moving in your body and you're sleeping better and different people are claiming different things each time. There's no two colonics the same. So when I say I've done 15,000 sessions worldwide, none of them have been the same. Not one single session. There have been situations where people came in, like I said, preventatively. And that's wonderful. Just they added to what they called cam. CAM is complementary and alternative. And complementary medicine, right?
Yes.
Added to allopathic medicine. So we're working together and I tell people I'm the best of both worlds. So if somebody walks in with dental issues, for example, I'll send them to you. If somebody walks in with a broken arm, I'm not going to say, hey, a colonic is going to help you, but if someone has any kind of itis like arthritis or any heat condition that's not necessarily needing a doctor, but just needing a good flush. You know, I, I would even say this just so people understand where this comes from. This was discovered in something called the ebers papayas in 14th century BC. Oh, wow.
I didn't realize it goes back that far.
It goes back that far. And what that means is it was only done by royalty and celebrities. Now everyone can do it. But who really made it popular was Dr. John Kellogg. And you know, Kellogg's cornflakes, right?
Okay.
Yes. Dr. John Kellogg of Battle Creek, Michigan, had a holistic center with all kinds of, you know, steams and spas and saunas and colon hydrotherapy. But he was a, a, a real front runner when it came to colon hydrotherapy because he felt that everybody should do it. And he was out with it with the benefits of it, especially on mental health. So a lot of his colleagues were treating mental health with other ways, and he was finding that after maybe three, six clonics or a few sessions, people's brains did not require medications of different kinds. Now, I want to speak on addiction, because this is really important, too. Alcoholism addiction. The most successful recovery centers have colon hydrotherapy.
Oh, I didn't know that, but maybe. Makes total sense.
Yeah. Because if you have. Think about this. If you have. If you're trying to release an addiction, but it's still living inside of you, which means cravings, right. So you may be off the. Whatever it is you're. Let's say alcohol. You may be off alcohol for a few days. But the habits, the addiction, the cravings are still there. Right. And they're deep inside and they hide. So when we flush those out, it's a lot easier for people to recover. And all rehabilitation centers, in my opinion, should have colon hydrotherapy.
Yeah. And it makes perfect sense because when we look at the microbiome, there's been some talks out there that the microbiome is actually craving. And bacteria talks to our cells and communicates to our nervous system. So they're also craving. But when you're cleaning the microbiome of the colon, now you're changing it. So I think the microbiome has a huge role, you know, in addiction and in the way we feel in the brain. So this is what you're really addressing.
I agree.
Good. I want to go into your story, because it's such a powerful story of how you ended up pollen hydrotherapist. You actually have a master's degree in business management, but you followed your passion and tell us about that.
I have master's degree in business management, and I was also cpa. So I like matching. I like files. I was very black and white. And now I'm a yin yang master. So what happens is I came in to colon hydrotherapy, okay, from the business world, because I had a habit of crossing my legs. I don't know if you can see my legs, but anyway, so I was crossing my legs and my cecum dropped. So basically, everything comes forward due to gravity, Right? The theory of relativity, of gravity as we age. But I was only 30 years old. And so my doctor said, hey, you know, just. I've done thousands of these surgeries. We'll just, what I call cut and paste will snip your colon, and then, you know, we'll staple. He said something about staples.
Did you actually have symptoms when your cecum dropped?
Yes. My colon was on the inside of my leg. I was. Yeah, it was terrifying. So then my friend said, I was talking to a girlfriend, and she said, you know, you might want to go to my colon therapist. She's very, very knowledgeable, and she's. She's one of founders of the field. And I said, I have a serious medical condition. I mean, like, this is serious, and I'm already slated for surgery. And she gave me some material to read. Anyway, I went to the. To go have the colonics with this woman and just to see right away, she felt the issue because your hips, there's a hole, okay? So she felt the cecum there. And she said, listen, we're not going to solve the problem today, but I think within three or six sessions, something like that, you'll be able to relax enough. Because I came in there nervous Nellie, like most people. Nervous about having anything. Tubes anywhere, right?
Yes.
I couldn't believe how relaxing it was. The lights were down. She was an expert with body work, so she used different trigger points. And it was about on the third session when I had gotten that I shouldn't eat a couple hours before, how to make the session ideal and my manner of being, just be calm and relaxed as opposed to walking in there and telling her what to do, just receiving the energy that she had to offer. And she talked about all kinds of things that I didn't even know about, you know, in my mind weren't scientific, like your birth sign, you know, or things like that. You know, astrology. And she was a Mormon. I mean, shoot, she had a husband, five children, blah, blah, blah. Anyway, third session, I go in. She's an expert with body work also, and she says, are you ready to take care of this problem? And I said, yes. And she said, okay, take a deep breath in. And I took a huge belly breath in. Because she told me I was a chest bruiser. She held nothing back. You're a chest breather. You have to learn how to expand your belly. So I started doing yoga and, you know, inversions and all the things she asked me to. Whatever she said, I trusted her. But when she said, let's do this, okay, she did a move where she explained to me, energy crosses the body.
Yes.
I never heard that before in medical school or in my life. I didn't even know what she was talking about. She said, it's like a zigzag, okay? So I'm picturing a zigzag. In the meantime, she says, take a deep breath. Take a deep breath. Let it out and keep it out. I keep up breath. And she takes her hand and very, very strongly goes across my breast. She already told me she was going to go across my breastbone to my left shoulder. And she pushes down on my left shoulder. And like a little elf, she says, done.
Done.
Okay. And I said, are you sure? And she said, yeah, look. And sure enough, my cecum was not on my leg.
Wow.
Yeah. It felt like it was in place. Now, there was no pain because she had explained to me there aren't a lot of nerve endings in this area, but there are a lot of lymph nodes. And so that's. You know, we've been working on the lymph congestion in conjunction with the colon hydrotherapy. So actually, colon hydrotherapy is very valuable for many things in conjunction with good body work and lymphatic drainage and other things like that. It's just beyond.
That's an incredible story. Wow.
Yeah. So she said, done. Guess what? I didn't believe her. I went back to the doctor, which I asked him for another X ray at the time, and he said, why? We've already determined the situation and what we have to do. And I said, well, just humor me. You know, I'm young, and I'm really nervous about getting surgery, any kind of surgery on my hip area. I plan to have children. You know, I. I just. Just humor me. He said, okay. He took the X ray, he looked at it, and he said these words. I've never seen this before.
Very powerful. Amazing. Talia, what a story. So what did you do after that once you found out? Okay, wow, this healed me. What was your path to becoming a colon hydrotherapy? Did you write there and then say, okay, I'm changing my career?
Pretty much. This colon therapist, Connie Allred, she introduced me to another fellow called Bernard Jensen. I went to his farm, and at the time, he was, I would say, a front runner in writing books about bowel care. So basically, his line was something like this. We should be talking about pooping as much as we're talking about eating. So he was basically introducing the concept. This is not embarrassing. This is for real. You eat, you poop. Okay? You eat, and you don't poop, you have problems. So, yeah. So he introduced a lot of things to me. I went back to Connie and I said, I would like to do this. She had a school there, and I would like to go to school for it. And she said, oh, that's wonderful, dear. She goes, you make a wonderful student. And I did. I was really, really into it. I enjoyed it very much. And then I opened my own place.
Fantastic. So, you know, you mentioned constipation. You know, I think in today's society, we have a lot of people who are constipated that don't talk about it. And I think having colonics is great for people who are constipated just to get things moving.
So not only that, but you mentioned the microbiome.
Yes.
Okay. So we know that biotic means life. So antibiotic is against life and probiotic is for life, Right?
That's right.
However, and you have plenty of them, whether you're talking about millions or billions or zillions or two, it really doesn't matter. What matters is they will multiply, the probiotics. The good bacteria will multiply in the right environment. And so by cleaning the colon, you're providing a lot of things, not just the removal of waste and pain and all kinds of other things that are creating disease and suffering in people, but also the environment. Maybe they have to take antibiotics for a reason.
Yeah.
And before they do the probiotics, guess what? The antibiotics might wash out some of the probiotics. And what I see through the tube, because you get to see what comes out, is often candida, which is yeast. Yeah, something like that. It's easy to flush. It's easy to flush yeast because it doesn't belong there, it's just there temporarily, and that we can do detoxification. You see it in the mouth. I often ask people, may I see your tongue, please?
I love that you asked that, because you're right. If we have yeast in the mouth, which with a white tongue, that's usually the case. It's definitely down in the butt. That's right. Yeah, exactly. Very, very good that you asked that. We see the mouth being the opening of the gi TR place where we can see signs of how it's eye opening.
Yes, I agree.
Very nice. So we talk. I mean, there's a lot of benefits to colon hydrotherapy, but what are some of the side effects?
Well, okay. In my opinion, there are no side effects. Okay. To colon hydrotherapy if you have a good colon hydrotherapist that's careful. And what I mean by that is whenever there's blood in the body that can get worse by adding water. So I wouldn't even do the session. If somebody says I have beating hemorrhoids or I have ulcerative colitis and I have blood in my stool, I would not give that person a session just because the side effects are simply Making a situation worse. Kind of like over watering the garden, you know, watering it just perfectly or just enough is great, but there's sometimes we over water and that causes problems too. It's a balance.
Yes. Duplonics deplete electrolytes.
Absolutely not. As a matter of fact, the colon or the large intestine, we call the colon. Colon is the root word for colonize. So you're colonizing good bacteria. That's why they call it the colon. But guess what else? The food that's digested in the small intestine enters the large intestine as liquid. It comes out hard, generally. Right. If there's a proper amount of transit time. So diarrhea and constipation are really the same thing. Both are indicated for colon hydrotherapy. Basically, this liquid that turns into a solid is because it's the last stop for the body to absorb minerals. And that's the colon's main job, is to make the good bacteria right, to proliferate the good bacteria and to take last stop in the body to grab minerals. Because we need minerals. We're made out of minerals.
Yeah. Very interesting. Now for somebody especially, you know, I went to do colonics. I went to this retreat in Palm Springs a few years back and we were fasting and having colonics every day. And as you mentioned, through this tube, I remember us sitting in a circle at night and thinking, oh my God, we all had parasites. All of us there. There were 18 of us. We could see these parasites. They were small, they were flowing through the tube. And this is one thing that we don't talk enough about parasites. Even if somebody said, oh, I eat vegetarian, I only eat organic. Well, parasites also like organic vegetables. So it's very common even from the soil to pick up parasites. What about your experience with seeing parasites with tube or can you get rid of them fully?
My experience is be as healthy as you can. Because parasites, bacteria, these type of things live outside of us. Toxins, I'm going to call them toxins. But we're living in a time now where we're very exposed to very complex toxins. So viruses, bacteria and things like that are very, very common in most people. What the idea is, if you can minimize your exposure to those things by eating well, and some people even are recommending eating more fat in their diet or more protein in their diet. But good quality, organic and real. I'll give you a quick example. Coca Cola. Tasty beverage, right?
Yes. Not good for you?
Well, you would think it would be not good for your Teeth or your colon. But it used to be made, and it still is in Mexico. It's made with cane sugar. And we have many enzymes. One of them is amylase. Right. To break down cane sugar. But we do not have the enzyme to break down the coca cola in America with high fructose corn syrup. Right. So that becomes a toxin. And what the body does is it takes those toxins and moves them to areas away from critical organs.
Interesting.
Yeah. So when you're doing a cleanse and colon hydrotherapy is at the root of that cleanse, it's the most important thing you can do. I say to people, don't even bother to cleanse your liver or do the candida cleanse or all these marketed cleanses without colon hydrotherapy, because it really. The flush will eventually get to wherever that high fructose corn syrup is hiding. Because I don't think your body breaks stuff like that down, does it?
No, it doesn't.
Right.
It is definitely toxic. So how does one prepare for a colon hydrotherapy session? We talked about preparation, like, especially with fasting. Or somebody does a cleanse. But how. Let's say somebody's never done it. They call and book an appointment with you. How do you prepare them for the session? Simple.
Text is best. I have a text. I ask certain questions. Their experience, their age and size for draping, because I have several different tube sizes and styles of working and so depending on to customize for that client, I like to be prepared. And then I just asked them not to eat two hours before the session. I've had many colonics in school because our brains were more awake in the morning. So we did the practical in the morning. Then we had lunch and did the colonics. And I find that any food in the stomach, even though far away from the colon, it doesn't feel great and it creates a lot of gas. So gas is also another thing that we accumulate because the last person I saw chewing was my grandfather, and he was a medical doctor. Okay. And he also did home enemas, and he chewed his food. But we don't chew our food. So here I am wolfing down a burrito and then getting a colonic was full of gas and all kinds of chemicals and stuff like that. So I learned. I learned. And so I instruct my clients to please not eat or even fast the day of the colonic, and then they can eat afterwards. And during the session, I kind of. We know with. With the body work, it. It's so relaxing. The session itself, they're getting in the colonic, they're getting really. A lymphatic massage. They're getting. All these things are happening at once. I work in the. By the way, do you chew your food?
Definitely. We have to chew our food till it becomes liquefied.
Exactly. And I say. And I just say, by the way. And they say, no. And I said, well, your stomach doesn't have teeth. It might eventually, you know, we might evolve to that point, but we talk too much when we're eating and we chew too little. So like you said, stomach is expecting a liquid, but it's not always getting it. And I'll even go, you know, you mentioned that too, where you see what's coming out.
Yes.
If I see a whole French fry or a piece of chicken, I stop the whole equipment. It doesn't hurt the client at all. I just want them to visually see that they're not chewing, because they might tell me that they're not chewing. And I'm. I'm able to sit, you know, that made it through 30ft, the digestion. And here it is.
You see a whole French fry in the tube coming out the other end.
Yes. And this is a very. This is a quick one. I had a client who is a raw food chef for family, and she used to come in on a regular basis, and I saw French fry come out of her. Oh, my God. She's a raw foodist. That means no cooked food. You know, organic vegetables.
Okay. Oh, no.
Right. So she started crying when I identified the French fry. And she confessed to me. She says, on the way home, I stop at McDonald's and I get French fries and I eat them really, really fast, which means she's not even breaking them down at all. And then I go home and I. I said, why are you unhappy? And she said, yes, I want to divorce my husband, but I don't know how to tell him.
Oh, wow.
Yeah.
Eating. Yes.
So what I'm saying is that this crop. I'm not a psychotherapist. Right. There's a lot of things. I don't have a lot of titles behind my name, but sometimes you hit something or in someone where they feel comfortable enough to tell you something or something occurred. I would just call it a miracle.
Yes, absolutely.
And a mystery. Right. The miracle and mystery of life occurs at that moment. And maybe it doesn't even have anything to do with me, but I think she was in denial about the whole McDonald's thing. And then telling everybody that she's a raw food chef because she, you know, it Cleared a lot of stress. Can you imagine the stress? We would be unfair. I would be under a great deal of stress.
Oh, yeah. Trying to pretend to be something that people expect you to be, that's a deeper issue. We can spend a whole show talking about pretending to be someone that someone else wants you to be. It's something ingrained in her, probably from when she was young, but hopefully, I think, through the sessions that you're doing by helping her think clearly, because that's what colon hydrotherapy does. Hopefully she had the courage to continue with her life and be authentic.
Isn't that a brilliant name? Clear way to health within. I'm sorry, but that is a full name.
A really good one. What is your wish, Talia? I mean, you're so passionate about getting people healthier. What is your wish? What would you like to see for the world?
I would like to see colon hydrotherapy done in all clinics, hospitals, institutions, rehabs, everywhere. As common as acupuncture and as accepted by insurance. And just accept it worldwide. We. We poop. Everybody poops. All animals. Everybody poops. And so my dream is to really. To see it, have people experience the benefits. Clear skin, less pain, mental clarity, better sleep, whatever it is, and share that with other people who will then be able to try it. And believe it or not, it's. It used to be the way that gastroenterologists would prepare people for colonoscopies. So sigmoidoscopy can be compared to an enema. You only clean the lower portion of the bowel. But the colonic. Before the colonoscopy, colon cancer and diverticulitis and colon illnesses were number 50. Now they're in the top 10. So we're giving people the. Occasionally I get to do a colonic on somebody, but they tell me, they told me the instructions that the doctor gave them this noxious fluid called go lightly or something like that. And that's yet another toxin that gets stuck in your system because you have to drink a gallon of it.
Yeah, actually, I had a patient of mine. I had a patient of mine who took this clear liquid. She was preparing for colonoscopy. She ended up with seizures so badly. Exactly. And that's actually in small print on this liquid. That's a prep liquid for colonoscopies. And she ended up in the hospital for several days, and she had headaches for months following that. And she's never had seizures before. She's in her 70s. But this happened to her from that and this. Yeah. Could have been done a lot More naturally. Right. Using filtered water to clean the area.
Yeah, absolutely. I'm sorry to hear that. That's very sad. And perhaps that would have been preventable. We don't know. Because I still recommend people fast, even though they say you can have liquid, which includes like sugar, popsicles or whatever. But basically you fast before, you know, great. You're doing the colonic before your colonoscopy, but we're not in the same office. So if it's done room to room, you can, you know, pretty much guarantee it. But if it's done in the timing that way, then, you know, they fast. And maybe do one day of the prep if necessary. Or drink some. I hate to be old fashioned, but it works. Drink some Epsom salt. It has its same effect. Same effect. And between the colonic and the Epsom salt, you can clean your colon and your lip, you know?
Absolutely. Yeah. You know, I'm a big believer in detoxification and especially if somebody's planning on a cleanse. I know we have in Beverly Hills, dental health and wellness, a cleanse coming up for the summer. I like to do two cleanses twice a year and really pairing them up with colon hydrotherapy. I think it's a phenomenal way for detoxification. Talia, so I'm so glad you were here today and talk to us about colonics. Where can people find you?
Okay, they can find me on Venice Boulevard, where I've been for 20 years in Los Angeles, California. And the best way to reach me is by phone. 310-804-0958. Yes, clearway colon.com.
Awesome. I'm sure people will probably have more questions for you. We weren't able to get into all the detailed topics, but this has been definitely, I think, enlightening to hear all the different conditions that you can help people with naturally to help them detoxify and, you know, think better. Clearer skin, better digestion, lose weight. Arthritis. Yeah, inflammation.
Well, you know what, there was a lady recently and this was, this is very common. He didn't have time to have bowel movements. She said, I have two kids, I have a job, I have this. I don't have time. Make time, please. Listen to your body. You know, and then the other thing that we see very, very commonly is I tell people you might not lose weight, but you lose waste, if that makes sense. Because what happens is that severe dehydration can occur and does occur. We just don't get enough water. So when someone comes in and says, my doctor says that colon hydrotherapy will dehydrate me. Well, that makes no sense because you're drinking water just the other way and you're getting hydrated. Yeah. So that's really important for the cleansing process, because when you're cleansing, you're taking all the supplements that are chelating, which means bringing together, you know, the poisons. You want to flush them out, but at the same time, you also want to activate them with the water.
Yeah. Fantastic. Well, Thalia, thank you so much.
You're welcome.
Yeah. Everyone, you can see Talia's information below in the show notes and see you next time for another great topic on the holistic dentistry show.
