Welcome back.
From what you eat to what you breathe, it is important to put good things into your body. And with modern technology, it's easier than ever to track your health between doctor visits. Not only for you, but your children as well. You can monitor results straight from your phone. It's amazing what you can do today. Joining me once again for part 2 of our special series is board-certified cardiologist, preventive health expert, Dr. Tiffany Di Pietro. Good to see you. Thank you so much for joining us.
Thanks for having me again.
Dr. Tiffany Di Pietro. All right, so we, we have some things. I know you're not associated with any of these companies that make these products, But let's first begin with the thermometer. This is a different thermometer than you showed us yesterday.
Yes.
Tell us about the ear thermometer.
So yesterday was a temporal kind of scan where we just waved it over the forehead. This is a typical, what a lot of parents are used to, just a regular ear thermometer. What's nice about it is just a one-button push and it also links to an app as well. This is a Philips product as well, so when you take your child to the pediatrician, then the pediatrician has a record of all the different temperatures. So it's very straightforward. It is a lot more expensive than the one— excuse me, inexpensive than the one we had on yesterday, so it's a very good option.
Alright, now a lot of adults are are interested in monitoring their blood pressure. There's a smart option for that as well.
Yes. Tell us about it. As a cardiologist, these are very important to me. So again, we have a Withings blood pressure cuff and a Philips blood pressure cuff. Again, as with the other products that we had yesterday, they all link to an app. So the Withings will all link to the Withings app and the Philips all links to the Philips app. What's nice about these is how small they are, right? So you could actually put this in a tote if you're a female and you could take it with you.
And it's easy to do.
Super easy to do. I mean, I'll do it if you want me to, but you basically just put it on and hit a button, and then with the Withings, it automatically launches the app and the app spits out your blood pressure.
Incredible.
Awesome.
Incredible. Alright, let me ask you about improving sleep. We all need that here. This is something that improves your sleep?
Well, this actually monitors basically everything that's going on— well, I shouldn't say everything— in your bedroom.
Okay.
Almost everything. Almost everything. I mean, it'll see your activity, but— so basically what's cool about this is it slips underneath the sheet, so you can imagine if it just goes underneath this tablecloth, it slips underneath the sheet and it's got a very long extension cord. Under the sheet? Yep, so you don't have to touch anything. As soon as you lay in the bed, it starts monitoring, it goes directly to an app, it tells you the temperature, the humidity in the room, what your respirations were at night, what your heart rate was at night.
So it'll tell you when you're having real Z's, like a good night's sleep versus getting up a lot.
And it also links to an app and so it can tell what kind of level of sleep you're in and when is most appropriate for you to wake up so you're not alarmed. So it has a smart alarm set to it as well.
Very interesting. All right, that's about $140 there. Tell us about the air monitoring devices. Why do we Why do we need air monitoring?
You know, I think this is great for people with children, maybe if they have animals, people that have allergies that are concerned about the allergens in the air. Oh, for sure, yes, that's right. So this is basically, it's the same exact product, but one is made out of wood and one has a silicone rubber, so this is great for nurseries 'cause it has rounded corners, it's not very hard, and I'm not sure if it'll show up here, but it basically, it analyzes the air and it spits out a number in the app from 0 to 100, 100 being wonderful air quality, 0 being not so great. That app then tells you why your air quality is not good and then gives you advice as to what to do to improve the air quality.
Yeah, because there could be particles in the air and that will impact—
Carbon dioxide, dust, chemicals.
Oh, that's real important.
It's great.
Alright, then you've got a smart kitchen scale here. We saw the scales that we had yesterday, that's an actual scale. This is a kitchen scale.
What's that all about? This is actually, it's great because it's very lightweight. It weighs basically nothing, so it's easy to get around in your kitchen. It weighs solids and liquids, and if you can see, I'm not sure if— I don't know if it'll do it here, but I don't know if I hit the zero, but anyways.
It tells you how much it weighs.
It tells you how much it weighs. It's very accurate. Why do I need that? This is also great too. It also has an app and you can, it tells you based upon what you're putting on the scale, it tells you calories. Oh yeah. It tells you carbohydrates. It tells you if you're trying to watch your sodium intake. So it's really good for people who do have some cardiovascular issues that have to watch certain sodium intakes. It's also good for people who are really trying to watch what they're eating in terms of carbohydrates to lose weight.
That's incredibly important.
Yes, I do need that actually. I don't cook, so I'll never use it.
Tracking workouts, there's a lot of things that track your workouts today, right? But this is, it can record distance traveled and how many push-ups you did?
Yeah, so this is really great for people who don't really want to wear a smartwatch. They're not into being, you know, having every single step that they take monitored. So this is actually a chest strap and you use it only when you're actually exercising. And it is probably the most accurate because it is right by the heart and it's excellent at measuring exactly what your pulse is, how many push-ups you're doing. So in terms of accuracy, it's probably the best, but it's not something you're going to wear every day. It's only something that you wear when you exercise. Alright, so it's just really Monitoring your heart rate, correct?
Yeah. Okay, good stuff. Dr. Tiffany, great to see you.
Thank you.
Thanks for going through all of this.
Absolutely. Thanks for us.
This is great. Tiffany Di Pietro joining us there. Take a short break.
