A psychobiology student explains how grief and anxiety create physical symptoms like chest pain. Modern pressure to stay productive leaves no room to feel. The fix: sit with sadness, cry, get angry, let it move through you.

So I'm waiting in the parent pickup line, and I was thinking about something I can talk about that happens a lot in the practice since I've had good feedback with some other reels and stories lately. So I am not a therapist. I do not have a degree in like a master's in psychology or social work. I do have an undergraduate degree in psychobiology, but I do feel as though a lot of times I have to step in because so many psychological issues, especially anxiety and grief, affects people to the point where they start having physical manifestations of mental health problems. They feel palpitations, they feel chest pressure. That's what we say, like a broken heart, right? Like your chest hurts. And so my advice to a lot of patients is that they need to sit with their feelings and process their feelings because we live in a world that is just go, go, go, keep up with the Joneses, make the money, work harder. And nobody— a lot of people don't sit, grief, process, sit with their feelings is the best way I can describe it, and, and, and be okay and cry it out and get angry in order to move on and be happier moving on. So that's my tip of the day. So sit with your feelings.
