If your business isn't working the way you expected, it's not because you're bad at business. It's because no one ever taught you how it actually works. We were trained to master algorithms in medicine, but when it comes to revenue teams and growth, we were never taught anything. We weren't even told to figure it out. We just assumed somehow we'd know. Like it would magically make sense. But it doesn't. The era of the seven Figure Physician CEO is here. And it's not about working harder. It's about learning entrepreneurship as a system. The same way you mastered ACLs and pals, you can master the algorithm of building a profitable scalable business. That's why I recorded the Seven Figure Physician CEO audiobook. Whether you're building a medical or non medical business, and whether your goal is your first million, first 2 million, first 5 million, first 10 million. This is where the journey starts. There is no calvary coming to save us. We are the Calvary. So. So go get your audiobook now. Www.entremd.com 7Figurebook. And let's rewrite the narrative for physicians starting today.
Hi, docs. Welcome to the Entre MD podcast, where it's all about helping amazing physicians just like you, embrace entrepreneurship so you can have the freedom to live life and practice medicine on your terms. I'm your host, Dr. Imna. Well, hi docs, and welcome to another episode of the ontremd podcast. As always, I'm excited that you're here. I wanna say a big thank you to every one of you who listens to this and shares with your friends. And I get DMs. You know, this changed my life or I started a new business cause of this, and it's so exciting. You guys know my BHAG, my big hairy, audacious goal is to help 80,000 doctors start profitable businesses. So to read that, I mean, absolutely, it makes my day. So if you're here and you're listening and you're a listener, thank you. From the bottom of my heart. You've written me a review. Thank you. You haven't written me a review.
Come on.
I mean, come on. I show up for you here multiple times a week. Go write me a review. Okay. We love five stars. Absolutely love it. Okay. All right. Okay. Now, before we get into our episode today, I want to share a discovery that I made. You know, since 2015, I have been trying or not to lose weight, some baby weight that I, you know, been carrying around. And I decided that I'm not the kind of person who can do aerobics. I'm not the person who drinks a lot of water. I just made that decision, okay? So I would take long walks, and that's my excuse. Like, I've exercised, but I mean, come on, five years later, I'm like, clearly, that's not enough, right? You need to do some stuff. And I found this program, and it would require me to do a number of things. I don't do. Number one, intermittent fasting. And I'm like, I don't eat a whole lot, but I just want to eat when I want to eat. Okay? The second thing, aerobics. And I'm like, I don't break a sweat, okay? I don't. I don't jump, I don't run. I don't do any of that stuff. And it was like, okay, you have to do that. Drink a gallon of water. What? So don't tell, okay? Don't tell. Because I'm a doctor, but in my adult life, I don't think I've ever had more than two bottles ever in a day. And then, so now I have to. I have to do that. And I realized that one of my specialties is taking people and taking them out of their comfort zone. This is what I do. I can't do videos. Oh, yes, you can. Come on, let's do it. We can do it. I can't start a business. Of course you can. Come on, let's do it. And I was like, if you're gonna make people do that, then you're gonna have to do uncomfortable things too. So I signed up for this thing, right? And it is so funny that as at the time of this recording, we are in week three, I still cannot do a minute of push ups. I cannot do a minute of bench presses. I cannot do. I got to a minute of squats. But most of the things they're doing, I'm having to modify. But what I'm realizing is every week I'm getting stronger. Every week I'm able to do a little more. Every week I find one round that I did without thinking about it. I was like, wait a minute. Last week I couldn't do that. And it's brought me to a place where I'm going, like, if you will be that person who dares to say yes and you won't quit and you put yourself in a supportive environment, you will be shocked what you can do. You'd be really shocked. Okay? So at the time of this recording, Dr. Una is down seven and a half pounds and the inches and all of that. But I'm able to do things I could never do. So you're like, wait a minute, why are you sharing all of this with me? Because that's me facing something uncomfortable for me, right? But when it comes to business, it's the same thing. You may say I'm not the kind of person who can, you know, start a business. Same way I said, I'm not the kind of person who does aerobics. But the truth is, you can. I'm not the kind of person who can speak confidently on stage. Yes, you can. I'm not the kind of person who can build a six figure multiple. Six figure or seven figure business, wherever, you know, whatever your number is, yes, you can. Right? I want you to embrace it all. I want you to embrace it all. If you would say yes and if you would do the things that are either uncomfortable or you're scared of, you have no idea what happens next. So embrace it all. And if you feel, if you've already started, you've embraced it and you're like, Dr. Una, that's great. But right now I feel like quitting. Let me tell you something. I have felt like quitting every single day. I have felt like, I can't do this. It's gotten to the point where when I'm working out, I'm my personal trainer. Come on, girl, you can do it. It's only a minute. You got this. You are made for this. And I keep, you know, I do what I have to do. I feel like quitting, but I don't. So this is the secret. If you feel like quitting and you don't, and you do what you're supposed to do, you still get the results. It's the most amazing thing. So if you're thinking of starting, start. If you are thinking of quitting, don't hang in there. You got this. Okay. All right. So I thought I'd just throw that out. And today we're going to be looking at finding balance in business. And you may have come in thinking, you know, balance between my business and my family and all of that stuff, but it's not quite that. It's finding balance in your business. And I'll explain what that means because I'm going to show you five areas where you should find the balance. And if you look in life, a lot of things are in pairs, you know, the positive and the negative, the input and the output. You know, all that kind of stuff. And it's the same in your business. And I want you to think about this because it will help you build a business that's healthy. It will help you build a business that's profitable. It will help you build a business that would outlast you. But I want you to think in these terms. Okay? So five areas of balance. So let's go there. The first one is the balance between creating a marketing, creating and marketing. I cannot tell you how many times I've met people who are starting off in business and they spend months, months creating these, this online course. And they put a lot of money into it, and they put a lot of time into it and put a lot of time into the graphics and all that kind of stuff, and they finally produce it. But if they put 100% effort in creating, they put 10% effort in marketing. So guess what? You have an online course that is the world's best kept secret. So what's the point, right? So the thought is you find that balance between creating and marketing. So if you're going to spend all that effort to create something, you, you got to spend a lot of effort to marketing it, at least pay attention to marketing it, right? So balance. So I'm creating something that could be an online course, that could be a membership, that could be a private practice, that could be a product. Whatever it is, the thought you have about, I'm going to put this much into creating. You should also be thinking about putting much into marketing. Okay? So, so for most doctors, the creating is not a. We love to create, we love to help people. We're motivated to do things like that. But per chance there's a doctor listening who's more on the marketing side. Now you don't want to market something and not create, right? Because you want people to use your product or your service and have a great experience. So marketing and creating, marketing and creating, it's a balance. You have to find that balance between them. Okay, all right, so that's number one. Number two is serving your current clients and selling to potential clients. Serving your current clients and selling to your potential clients, right? So what happens if you don't serve, all your clients leave you, right? And if you don't sell, you don't grow your impact. And truthfully, you start going backwards. Because some clients are going to leave, right? Whether you know, they, they had to move or things in life changed or you've solved their problem, so they've, they've left. So if all your focus is on serving and you have no focus on inviting other people to come and work with you, then the Business has a problem, okay? So yes, serve the people you have, but then you also have to sell to the ones who are not yet in your world, right? So you have to do both. So I have to create and I have to market. I have to serve and I have to sell. Okay, we're getting that.
All right.
Now the third one is thoughts and action. Thoughts and action. Thoughts and action. So one of the things you really have to work on as an entrepreneur is your mindset, right? Because your mind will play all kinds of tricks on you, right? Imposter syndrome will show up, self doubt, the whole nine yards. So you're gonna have to learn to manage that, right? But you don't want to manage your mind and spend all your time managing your mind and take no time to execute. You have to execute, right? If you say, I'm only going to execute, I'm not going to pay attention to my mind, then your mind, those thoughts that are uncontrolled, those limiting beliefs will stop you. They will, they will make you self sabotage. They'll make you do all kinds of things, right? But if you do the thoughtwork without the action, you're not getting the result. If you do the action without the thought work, then you may not get the results because the lack of thought work will make your mind stop you, right? So there's that balance. You have to do them both. You can't do only thoughtwork and you can't only do action. You have to do them both. The balance.
The balance.
Okay, the fourth area is investing and profits. I'm going to sit here for a little bit. Investing in profits. So you want to build a business that's profitable, okay? So you want to hit your six figures. Multiple six figures, seven figures, multiple seven figures, you want to hit that. So a business that's profitable, but in order to do that, you're also going to need to invest. You're also going to need to invest. And that could be investing in coaching to make you the entrepreneur better, more productive, right? It may be investing in, in some kind of software that will make your business better, that will make your customer experience better, right? It may be investing in hardware, it may be investing in office space, whatever it is. But a lot of times it's like, ew, I don't want to spend all that money. You're not, first of all, you're not spending it, you're investing it, which means that it has a return on investment. But there's a dance there. So for instance, if you build a business and let's say it's, you know, it made 240 grand, and you did all you could and you got to 240 grand. Well, it may be that you're an entrepreneur who can easily make 240 grand, but what if your plan is, I want to hit half a mil? Well, maybe the version of you that exists right now can't create that, right? So you'll have to invest in knowledge. You have to invest maybe in coaching, invest in courses, invest in books, right? To take you from the kind of entrepreneur who can generate $240,000 to the kind of entrepreneur who can generate half a million. So refusing to invest in yourself directly affects the profits that you're going to have. Do you see what I'm saying? So you have to have that balance between, I'm investing and I'm generating profits. I'm investing and I'm generating profits. And you. You know, one of the things I think that money is for is money is really for investing yourself to make you better. Because once you become better, everything becomes better. Okay, so I've done podcast episodes where I talked about your highest performing asset. And no, it's not any of your stocks, and no, it's not anything you have in real estate. Your highest performing asset is you. Because once you change everything, every other thing changes and becomes better. Okay, all right, so that's the fourth one. Investing and profits. Lots of companies will invest a significant amount of their profits back into marketing, right? So how much are you willing to spend on marketing? And now, please don't misunderstand me. This is all dependent on the phase of business that you're in, right? But you're gonna have to invest to get a return on investment. So sometimes people are like, oh, well. Well, I can't do that. When my business is bigger and it's making more money, then I'll invest in that. And I'm like, I hear you. I feel you. I used to think that, but this is the honest truth. That is like saying, I can't afford med school, so I'm going to go through med school and not pay. And then when I'm done and I get my attending job, then I'll pay. It doesn't work that way. A lot of times the payment is upfront. Okay. A lot of times the payments upfront. So investing profits. Investing profits. There's a dance there. There's a dance. There's a balance thing going on there. Okay? All right, so number one, creating and marketing. Number two, serving and selling. Number three, thoughts and Actions. Number four, investing in profits. Okay. Number five is a big one. Okay. Number five is learning and doing. Learning and doing. There must be a balance here. In fact, I find that learning is one of the most common types of procrastination. Now, I don't have any data on this. This is just my suspicion. When are you going to start your business? Oh, I'm going to go get this certification on this. When are you going to start your business? Oh, I did the certification, but now I have to go do another course on Facebook ads before I can start with, when are you going to start your business? Well, I just found this person. She's really doing what I want to do, so I signed up for her program. When are you going to just do something? Just do something. Listen, one of the best things I think I did, and I'm still working on this, is I developed the attitude of learning to do right. So I learn. And the motive behind my learning is, is to do. Is to take action. Like learn. And right after learning, the very next thing is taking action. Okay. Learning to learn is procrastination. That is 100% what that is. We don't need to learn to learn. We need to learn to do. You need to learn enough to do. The person who learns a little and does a lot will run circles around the person who learns a lot and has every Alphabet you can imagine. Please do. Don't misunderstand me. I'm a physician. So clearly I believe in learning. But what I'm saying is, as an entrepreneur, if you're just learning and learning and learning, but you're not doing anything, it's time to call yourself out. You have to have a balance between learning and doing. So am I saying don't sign up for courses? Don't do that? Absolutely not. In fact, why don't I say this? If you're an entrepreneur here, thinking of starting or scaling a business, there is a business school for you. It is called the Entre MD Business School. And I would love for you to come and join us. All right? Great community of amazing doctors. And you will get to be in a community with entrepreneurs who are in it with you where it is normal to be an entrepreneur and have all those crazy ideas, right? You'll get the accountability you need, you'll get the coaching you need. And it's a really good school. Okay? So I invite you to join us. So clearly I'm not talking about not doing these things, but. But when you sign up for that course, when you come into Entre MD Business school, your goal is to learn to do so. Your plan is to stay in motion, to execute. Because if you will be a person who learns to do, you will be that person who Every 90 days, your life will look different. Every 90 days, your business will look different. Why? Because you're in motion. You are in motion, right? So an area of balance there is learn to do. So ask yourself, the last two courses I signed up for, what did I do with them, right? So it's time to look back and say, my goodness, I'm going to take some action on what I learned. In fact, a lot of times, you know, back in the day, I used to take notes. I just take notes of what, you know, a speaker is saying or coach is saying or something like that. Now I start off my note with the to do list, right? And, and I'm going like, based on what this person is saying, how do I apply this? So that's my way of disciplining myself to stay in the mode of learning to do so. They say this, I'm like, wow, that means I should do this, do this, do this. And I just put it. So at the end of it, I may have three things, five things, 10 things to do, and I go execute. So what that means is that learning experience changed my life because I went right away and acted on it. So you got to find that balance between learning and doing. All right, so you're an entrepreneur. You're thinking of becoming an entrepreneur. You think you're starting that business or you think you're scaling that business? Hear me, you need these areas of balance. These are not all of them, but these are the top five, okay? You need to be creating and marketing. If you're only creating, you'll be the world's best kept secret. If you're only marketing, you will be found out because you're not creating anything, right? Number two, you must be serving and selling. If you are serving your clients, if your passion is to help them win, what happens is they will sell for you because they'll tell others, man, you need to check this out, right? And you will get them wins, which is what you are paid to do. So if you're serving, that's what you'll be doing. You. So if you're not serving, you're not getting those testimonials, you're not getting people wins, you're not getting people talking about what you're doing. Now if you're serving, but you're paying no attention into bringing new people into your world, then your World is going to get smaller and smaller till it no longer exists. So you serve, but you sell. Okay? Number three, your thoughts and your actions. Your thoughts and your actions. You must do the thoughtwork. You must execute. You must do them too. They're like power twins. You must do two of them. Number four, investing and profits. The more you invest in yourself and in your business, the more profits you can make. The more profits you can make, the more you can invest in yourself. And becomes a vicious cycle. Okay, Investing and profits, investing. So don't look at it, oh, this is a huge expense. Investing in yourself is never an expense, it's an investment. Right? You never say, oh gosh, I put all this in the stock market. It was a big expense. No, you never buy a property and say, oh, that was a big expense. No, it was an investment. Okay? You cannot value investing in real estate more than you value investing yourself. So investing and profits. So investing and profits. It creates a vicious cycle. A beautiful vicious cycle. Number five, learning and doing. Learning and doing. You learn to do, you learn to do. And that is the key to high level productivity, that is the key to dramatic transformation is learning to do. Learning to do. Because most people won't do. This is a distinguisher. Most people will not do, okay? Now if you learn and you don't do, you just love learning. You love buying new courses, you love doing all of that. You have a disease called corsitis, okay? Corsitis. Learn to do, learn to do. Be an implementer, be an executor. Oh my goodness. What it would do for your life and your business. Okay? All right, so this is what I.
Want you to do.
I want you to take a moment, I want you to sit and I want you to have a meeting with yourself and say, what does my balance look like? Now remember, it's balance. So you're going to keep working on this. This is not a one time thing. But ask yourself, am I creating but not marketing? Am I serving and no longer selling? Am I doing a lot of thought work but then not taking any action? Am I making profits but no longer investing in myself? Am I learning but not doing? Ask yourself the questions, answer them and then change your course so that you can be in balance. All right? You can be in balance because this is what can happen if you do this. You can be that person. Your business can go from best kept secret to household name, right? Or at least household name in your area or your industry. You can go from having a lot of clients and having a funnel of clients. You can go from that place of I, you know, I now know how to deal with self doubt, and I know how to deal with imposter syndrome. And I'm taking a lot of action, so I'm getting results. Okay? You can be that person who is confident investing in himself or herself, and because of that, you make more and more profits. Okay, now you might go like, I'm not in this for the money. Okay, listen, we're all here for the impact. We're doctors, okay? We didn't come here for the money. We're doctors. And it's just that it's hard to measure impact right across all industries. But money can be measured. So I use profits. All right? But the more you invest in yourself, the more impact you can have. All right? All right. And then the more you learn to do, the more rapid your transformation would be, the more rapid. All right? So you can have all of this. And it starts with working on your balance. So ask yourself those five questions. Have a come to Jesus meeting with yourself. And. And, hey, I would love to hear what you come up with. And if this episode, if you found this helpful at all, I want you to take a snapshot of it.
