If your business isn't working the way you expected, it's not because you're bad at business. It's because no one ever taught you how it actually works. We were trained to master algorithms in medicine, but when it comes to revenue teams and growth, we were never taught anything. We weren't even told to figure it out. We just assumed somehow we'd know. Like it would magically make sense.
But it doesn't.
The era of the seven Figure Physician CEO is here.
And it's not about working harder.
It's about learning entrepreneurship as a system. The same way you mastered ACLs and pals, you can master the algorithm of building a profitable scalable business. That's why I recorded the Seven Figure Physician CEO audiobook. Whether you're building a medical or non medical business, and whether your goal is your first million, first 2 million, first 5 million, first 10 million. This is where the journey starts. There is no calvary coming to save us. We are the calvary.
So.
So go get your audiobook now. Www.entremd.com 7Figurebook. And let's rewrite the narrative for physicians starting today.
Hi docs. Welcome to the Entre MD podcast where it's all about helping amazing physicians just like you. Embrace entrepreneurship so you can have the freedom to live life and practice medicine on your terms. I'm your host, Dr. Unna.
Well, hello. Hello my friends. Welcome back to another episode of the On Tremd podcast. Today we are going to be talking about something that is near and dear to my heart and that is the fear of rejection. So I'm gonna be showing you five ways to overcome that fear. Now, when I started off as an entrepreneur, you may have heard my story. I started off as a super shy, socially awkward, introverted introvert. And my fear of rejection was at an all time high. Because of that fear, I wouldn't speak, I would not do videos, I would not show up on social media, I would not ask for referrals. And it was all based on the fear of getting a no. But the thing is, business is all about getting a few yeses, right? And so we're going to talk about that because I want you to be in a position where you embrace rejection like you're looking for it, right? You're setting yourself up be rejected. Because in that same position is where you get all the yeses you need to be wildly successful. Okay, so it might sound a little weird, but, you know, this is what we're going to talk about and you may be wondering, some of you are like, yeah, fear of rejection, all time high. I got it. But you know, how does it show up, right? You could be on social media, and that social media will have a profound impact on your business. But then maybe you've posted once or twice and then you got three reviews and your video didn't go viral or whatever, and you don't show up anymore because you're afraid of putting out stuff that's not, quote, unquote, really well received. Or you may have had opportunities to be on certain stages, which are even dream stages for you, opportunities to speak again, things that, you know, work wonders for your brand and wonders for your business. But you say no, you think of selling and you would do everything but sell. So you work on the website, you build the team, you work on the logo, sometimes even work on social media, all as a valid excuse not to actually make an offer and say, hey, come work with me. Hey, come join my private practice. Hey, sign up to coach with me. Like anything, so you don't have to do that again because of the rejection. Or you may be like, you have new verticals in your business that you know would be so amazing for your clients. They're waiting for it, but you're like, wow, if I start talking about this new vertical or this new program within my business, will people receive it? And so you're stalling. You haven't done it yet, you haven't said yes to it, because how is it going to be received? Okay, these are all things we do for fear of rejection, right? And even for my intrapreneurs, maybe you've been offered a position to be the chief medical officer or the chief, you know, the chief health and equity officer, things like that. And you're like, wow. But you know, my peers, you know, are going to start looking at me different. They will not accept my leadership and things like that. Are you actually turn down those positions and it's for a fear of rejection. Okay, now, so what, what, what do we do to overcome this? Because when you think about it, it's yucky, it's icky. It's something we would want to be free of. We want to be able to hear nose and still be okay and still sleep well at night. How do we overcome this? Right? And so I'm going to walk you through five things. And these are simple. And you can do all of them. You can start doing all of them today. The first thing is just to recognize it, right? To call it what it is, right? I have this fear of rejection. And because you know, it's kind of like making a diagnosis that's, you know, half the problem is solved. Call it what it is. I have not. Call yourself out. I have not been making offers in my business because I'm afraid of rejection, right? I have been saying no to speaking gigs because I'm afraid of rejection. I have not put my face on video because I'm afraid of rejection. I'm afraid that I will not have as many views as somebody else or a hater is going to come out and say, oh, they didn't like my hair or whatever. Because when we recognize it, then we can fix it. So when we say things like, well, I'm just not good at that, you know, I suck at that, and no, call it what it is, okay? Because once we identify it, then we can get rid of it, okay? So look in your life, look in your business. What are the things you're not doing because you're afraid of being rejected? Call them. Call it what it is, okay? So these five things, I'm not doing them because I'm scared of being rejected, okay? So that's number one. Number two is to recognize that it is a part of business. It is a part of your journey as an entrepreneur. You are not going to build a wildly successful business without having multiple times where you experience rejection. Rejection is not necessarily a bad thing. It is part of the process. It's kind of like going to the gym and you lifted weights and all of that and you're sore afterwards, right? It's just. It's a part of the process. You are not going to build muscle without having some soreness. It's part of it. It's not a bad thing. It just is, right? So rejection is not a bad thing. It just is. So when you look at the data like sales companies would use, they say somebody's just starting out in sales and all of that. They expect their convers ratio to be 10%, which means for all the people they talk to and make offers, 10% of the people will say yes. Which means if they talk to 10 people, one person will say yes. If one person says yes, that means nine people said no. That's exactly what that means. But they only need the one to hit their goal, right? At least to start. And as they get better, they say, you know, the better ones will have a conversion ratio about 30%. And that means that for every 10 people they talk to, three will say yes. And three is all they need to be wildly successful. That's all they need, right? So I want you to think about it, that means a salesperson goes to work. They know, man, I'm going to make these hundred calls and 30 people are going to say yes, 70 are going to say no. But all I need to make the biggest commission I've ever made is 30 people to say yes out of 100. And that means they go to work knowing that they're going to experience rejection more times, that they're going to experience, you know, quote, unquote acceptance, if you will, and they're okay with it. It is just part of it. If you're hosting a webinar, industry standards is, well, even for the people who sign up, 30% will show up live. And sometimes people get bent out of shape and will not do live events because of that. But that's, that's the number that's going to show up. And it's okay. It is 100% okay. Right. Okay. So that's the second thing. Recognizing it as a, as a part of business. I think I should throw in there that you do want to separate yourself from your offer, right? Or from your video or from your new vehicle. Offering your speed, like your business, even though it came from you, it is not you. And if somebody says no to your offer, they have not said no to you as a human being. It's just your offer. And, and it's fine. We said no to many things, right? It's okay. It's just part of it. It's just part of business. Okay? So that's the second thing. The third thing is to recognize the opportunity cost of the fear of rejection. Okay? For instance, I have hosted events where after the event, I've had 25 people decide I want to be part of the business downtrend the business school. And they go into the business school and they start working on their businesses and they're creating incredible wins. Like when I look in the Entrepreneur Business school Facebook page and people are posting, just yesterday somebody posted like, oh, I got 13 new patients today, right? I sent out my first email blast and I got three new patients. I reached out to a referral source and it turns out they'll be able to send me all their clients. I reached out to people who have worked with me before. I decided to re up with me. And I just brought this amount of dollars into my business. Every time I look at that, I'm like, close to tears. Is so crazy how much transformation people can experience. But I had to be willing to put on an event, bring in people, and have so many people say no. I had to be willing to do that for me to be in a position to help people get those kind of results. For someone to say, oh, I've been in practice for six months and I doubled the revenue I used to bring in six months. Now, you know, of course, people are in various stages and the results vary and all of that, but it's a theme. It's a theme of transformation. Somebody else posted on social media, this was, I mean, I think that's my favorite post of all time. She said, ebs. So the Entrepreneur Business School, EBS has helped me more than therapy over all these years to fix my problems. Can you imagine that? It's not a life coaching program, it's a business program. But the ripple effect, right, because what you do in one area of your life, it spills to the other areas. Now, if I am not willing to embrace rejection, I have to give that up. I have to give up my dream of helping doctors build wildly successful businesses so they can have the freedom to live life and practice medicine on their terms. I have to give up my dream to keep my fear of rejection. The opportunity cost is too high. And so you want to think about it for your business. If you don't start that new vertical, if you keep saying no to the speaking gigs, if you won't talk to referral sources, what happens? Who do you not help? What does their life look like because you are not available to help them, right? And so you want to recognize the opportunity cost of it. What is the downside? What is the pain that people still be in? What will the state of my business be? What is the financial freedom that I have to give up? What is the time freedom that I have to give up to keep my right to continue to be afraid of rejection? Okay? So that's the, that's the third thing. The fourth thing is to fall in love with your vision is to fall in love with your vision. I alluded to this a little earlier, but I want you to think about it. When my business works, when I embrace rejection and everybody doesn't say yes, everybody doesn't click on my video, everybody, you know, doesn't like my new vertical or whatever. But when I embrace all of that and I do it, what could happen? Right? I want you to think even further. So, for instance, for me, my vision is to help 100,000 doctors build six and seven figure businesses. That's my vision, okay? That's my vision to help 10% of the physician community. And I think about it a lot. I think about what that would look like, I think about the transformation it will bring in their lives, personally, in their families, in the legacy they can leave for their families, for their children and all of that. I think about the ripple effect in the physician community because we affect 10% of the physician community. We will affect the physician community as a whole. I think about, you know, hitting Vision 2025, where we're back to the year of the Physician, where physicians are the leaders of healthcare inside and outside the exam room. They've fallen in love with practicing medicine again, and they've created financial freedom for themselves. I think about that. I think about the looks on the faces of people where they've gone from stuck and the business not working and then needing to take loans to run the business to this place where they've been able to put away money, they're able to invest in real estate, they're able to take days off, they're able to. All of that. I think about it a lot, and I think when you fought, when the love you have for your vision is higher than your fear of rejection, then you're willing to embrace the rejection, right? So when you think about women and a woman wants to get pregnant, it's the vision of a child. A child I get to nurture, I get to have, I get to hang out with. I get to, you know, go to their weddings and their graduations and just enjoy every stage from, you know, when they. Their first smile to when they start crawling to. They start walking. Do they say their first words and all of those things? It is that vision. It is so much bigger than the fear of gaining weight and the fear of getting stretch marks and the fear of needing to have surgery, the fear of potentially dying childbirth. That fear is subdued by the vision, right? So where are you trying to go? What is the impact that your business could have? What. What kind of change are you trying to make in the world? The more in love you are with that, the more aware you are of that, the less the fear of rejection will hold you back. Okay, so it's still there, but it holds you back less because you're like, I want that, and I'm willing to pay the price. If the price is rejection, I'm willing to pay it. Right? So you fall in love. There are many ways you can do that. I mean, you can do a lot of visualization. I do that. I travel to the future. I'm like, oh, my goodness, look at what that could look like. Right? And so you can do a lot of visualization. You could do your vision boards. You can do a lot of vision casting, all of those kind of things, but fall in love. Fall in love with your vision. Fall in love with the people you're called to help and the change that you can bring to them. And you'll embrace it. You'll embrace it. Okay, the fifth thing, the fifth thing, which is a really important one, is to practice rejection. You're like, what? That's not why I clicked on this podcast episode. I thought you were gonna show me how to get rid of the fear. Yeah, this is one of the ways to get rid of the fear. Practice it. For instance, you're afraid of, you know, when I sell, people would reject me. Then just set a challenge for yourself and sell every day for 30 days. You're afraid of going on social media, because what if I don't get the likes and all of that stuff? Make a commitment to post five days a week on media. Whether you get one click or 500 clicks or 2 million clicks or the video goes viral. Right. You decide, I'm going to do this every day. Practice rejection. Maybe you've been saying no to a lot of speaking. Well, maybe it's time to hit the emails and tell people, you know, I was kidding. Yeah, I would love to do that. Right? And then go speak. Go put yourself in that position. Right? Put yourself in that position. You haven't been asking for referrals, especially. Especially for the docs listed who are in private practice. You haven't been asking for referrals. Just decide. I am. You know, so, you know, I'm a pediatrician. I'. Just use my example. Just decide, hey, I'm going to talk to two OB GYNs every week for the next three months, and you start building those relationships and talking to them about sending you patients and all of those things. Just set yourself up. Practice rejection. Because remember, rejection is part of it. It's not a bad thing. It's not something you do because that's something that happens to you because you suck. It just is. It literally just is. Okay, so you practice all of that, remembering that you don't need everybody. You need a few. Like when I say, I need 100,000 doctors, that's 10%. That means 900,000 doctors may either never hear of me or they may decide, I don't want anything to do with her. But I don't need all of them. I just need one out of 10. So I show up for the one when I show up on video. I show up for the one when I Record this podcast. I show up for the 1 out of 10, right? When I'm doing my programs, I'm showing up for the 1 out of 10. So, yes, people are going to say, no. Yes, people are going to say, I don't want it. Yes, people are going to say, I don't believe doctors should be entrepreneurs. That's fine. I'm not looking for them. I'm looking for that one out of 10 who's like, oh, my goodness, Dr. Una, I've been looking for you. Right? So practice rejection. Practice it. And you know this. So this is one of the reasons why we do a lot of challenges in the Entre MD Business school, because we practice uncomfortable things. And it's so funny because right now we're actually doing a challenge that we call this cellophan challenge, and it's sell every day. Like, these are the different things you can do to actually make offers in your business. There are seven of them. Do one every day. And people are reporting in and all that. And they've already started getting massive wins. And the ones who haven't seen the win yet know that the win is on the way, right? Because they're throwing. They're putting the seed, they're putting the seeds in the ground, and it's amazing. So they're practicing that. And you get to this point, and actually there are a number of people who've gotten to that point, like, huh, I'm not actually scared of this anymore. Which is a fantastic place to be, right? Okay, so practice number five is practice rejection. Practice it. It's not a bad thing. Just practice it. Set yourself up. Put yourself in a position where you. You can experience, quote, unquote, that rejection. And you get to that point where it's just a numbers game and I am showing up for the person who needs me. And the people who don't need me will say no. And that's okay, right? Like, there are things people offer you that there's no way you would ever by that. You know what I mean? And that's fine. Okay, so what do I want you to do? I want you to go through this exercise, look at these five things, and especially decide to practice rejection. Okay? Practice rejection. So pick something that you're going to do for the next 30 days, something you've been running away from because you're afraid of rejection, right? So you're going to recognize, okay, rejection is the issue here. You're going to recognize this is a part of business. You're going to recognize the opportunity cost you'll fall in love with your vision. So that will make this process of practicing so much easier. But you're going to practice every day, okay? So make that commitment to do that. And please listen, if you're like, I've been trying to do this, this is not working. I wish I could do this in community and all of that. The Entre MD Business school is designed for this, where you can do uncomfortable things long enough in community till it becomes. Yeah, that's what we do. I mean, we're entrepreneurs. What do you think? So come join us. Okay. Entre md.com forward/business. Come join us. Come check it out. And it is just a place where we embrace these things because the opportunity cost of staying comfortable is just way too high. It's too high. You know, I talk about the 90 year old version of myself all the time. I don't want to be 90 and live in regret. I won't have the time or the energy to come back and do the things I could be doing now. So I'm embracing all the discomfort now so I can be comfortable at 90. Okay. Comfortable with who? I become comfortable by the things I've accomplished, the legacy that I've left. I want to be comfortable then. I don't want to be uncomfortable at 90. Okay. All right. So I want you to think about this, right? Show up for the people you're wired to serve. Okay? I want you to imagine being comfortable doing that. Comfortable with rejection, just recognizing it's like going to the gym and being sore. It just is what it is. I want you to think about that. That could be you. It will take 30 days of practice, 60 days of practice, 90 days of practice. And this is something that you're always going to do because every time you try to break into a new level in your business and stuff, that same fear is going to show up and you're going to say, dealt with you before. I can do it again. I know exactly what to do, right? And just become this person who can dare fears and embrace rejection. Embrace it so you can get your vision. The price of getting over the fear of rejection is that you get to see your vision become a reality, man. And I can't wait to celebrate that with you. Okay? So go do your work and please share this episode with the doctors in your life and I will see you on the next episode of the Ontremity podcast.
