If your business isn't working the way you expected, it's not because you're bad at business. It's because no one ever taught you how it actually works. We were trained to master algorithms in medicine, but when it comes to revenue teams and growth, we were never taught anything. We weren't even told to figure it out. We just assumed somehow we'd know. Like it would magically make sense. But it doesn't. The era of the Seven Figure Physician CEO is here. And it's not about working harder. It's about learning entrepreneurship as a system. The same way you mastered ACLs and pals, you can master the algorithm of building a profitable scalable business. That's why I recorded the Seven Figure Physician CEO audiobook. Whether you're building a medical or non medical business, and whether your goal is your first million, first 2 million, first 5 million, first 10 million, this is where the journey starts. There is no calvary coming to save us. We are the calvary. So. So go get your audiobook now. Www.entremd.com 7Figurebook. And let's rewrite the narrative for physicians starting today.
Hi, docs. Welcome to the Entre MD podcast, where it's all about helping amazing physicians just like you, Embrace entrepreneurship so you can.
Have the freedom to live life and.
Practice medicine on your terms.
I'm your host, Dr. Umna. Well, hello. Hello, my friends. Welcome back to another episode of the entremde podcast. And we are continuing on our series of the Millionaire Habits. And today, the Millionaire habit we're going to look at is goal setting. And the thing about this is when I thought about it, I was like, yeah, but everybody knows about goal setting. And, you know, most people have goals. And, you know, I started talking myself out of it and I was like, wait a minutes, Dr. Una. You know better. Okay. Goal setting is one of those, quote unquote basic things, one of those foundational things that you can never outgrow. Never. I read about goal setting every year. I set goals every year I set goals every quarter, I set goals every month. I look at my goals every day. It's a huge success habit that I have. And I was like, you know, don't do that. Okay, so you may go, like, I'm just going to see what she's going to say, because I know about goals. And I'm going to invite you to walk away from that thinking. Because the masters, right, the ultra successful, don't come up with bright, shiny, innovative things to do per se. A lot of times they just Become really good at the basics. Okay? I tell this story all the time using basketball. And LeBron James is not a great player because he came up with the LeBron move. He's a great player because he's a master at the basics. Whether that's field goals, three pointers, free throws, steals, blocks, assists is the same thing. There is not new moves. It's mastery of the basic, quote, unquote, basic moves. Okay, and so we're going to look at goal setting. And I thought I was like, what would I share that would be valuable to you? And I came up with three things. And so we're going to look at those and it's going to be a lot of fun. Goal setting is one of those things that will absolutely change your mind. Because humans, we're very strange. If we decide to go nowhere, we can stay in the same spot. But if we decide to put something in space, we can literally put it in space. Like, that's how wide of a difference in the way our lives could look. And it's just from what we decide to do, it is the strangest thing. And so if that's the case, then we do need to pay attention to goals, and that's what we're going to do right now. Okay. All right, So I have three concepts, three concepts that I want to give you or three things I want to tell you to do as far as goals go. And the first thing is set your goals. You're like, Dr. Una. Really? Yes. Set your goals. Now, you may think this is really basic, but this is the honest to God truth you need to tell yourself. Have you done it? The fact that you know it does not mean you'll get the results. The result comes from doing it. So have you done it? Have you set your goals? Do you have goals for this year? And when I say goals, I don't just mean business goals. In the entre MD world, we talk about the wheel of life. We talk about the nine areas of life, because business is not. It's not your life. It is one aspect of your life. And so we talk about your. Your, you know, your spiritual life. We talk about your family, we talk about whatever you're doing for your legacy. We talk about your health, your finances, your career or business. We talk about intellectual development, fun, your social capital. So that's your network and all of that stuff. So there are nine areas, okay? So have you set goals in all nine areas? Have you set intentions? What you want those nine areas to look like? Okay, so even if you're like, yeah, I've heard about goals before. If you have haven't done it, you don't know it. Okay? So this is something I learned from my husband, who is also my mentor, and he says that if you know something, but you don't do it, you don't know it. You've heard about it, but you don't know it. Right. And so have you done it? And sometimes we don't write goals because we don't want to take the risk of owning it. Right. And then it doesn't happen. You know, stuff like that. But there's so much power in owning a goal. There's so much power because what happens is you've set a possibility, and even though it looks impossible, all your creativity and your wisdom and some networks and all kinds of things show up to help you make it a reality. It is the most amazing thing this year. Let me see if I can pull up some goals that are crazy that I set. I set a goal that I was going to do a thousand copies of the entremd book in the first week. And the average nonfiction book does 250 copies in the first year. Okay? So just so you see how quote unquote crazy that goal was. And at the end of the day, we end we ended up with a little over 850 copies or so. And so in that case, we didn't actually hit the goal, but oh, my goodness, right. We ended up with 850, which is more than three times what people do in a whole year. And it was unbelievable, the number of doors it opened, because I was willing to put myself out that out there that much to get 850 copies sold, the number of new doctors that I was able to meet, the number of new doctors I was able to help. And it was just amazing. Amazing. I could have said, you know, what will be, will be. But my life changed because I owned a goal. In the same way with On Trendy Live, which is our annual event, I was like, I'm going to put a thousand people in there. Now. That was, for me, that was so crazy that my team knew about it and my husband knew about it, and that's it. I didn't talk about my goal until we had crossed maybe 800 or so. I just didn't talk about it. I just pushed. But I didn't tell anybody what the number was because I was like, I have my own doubt. I don't need everybody else's doubt, Right? And so we started pushing and pushing and inviting and doing all these things. And so many doctors. Maybe you're listening now and you're like, yeah, that's the first time I heard about you. And you know what my mission is? My mission is to help 100,000 doctors build profitable businesses so they can live life and practice medicine on their terms. And so it was only the week of the event that it dawned on me that a thousand doctors is 0.1% of the physician community. I was like, wait a minute. I mean, it's not 10,000 or 100,000, but we're on our way, right? And so we pushed, got to 800, and I'm like, okay, guys, listen. We're at 800. My goal, my bhag, which is big, hairy, audacious goal, my bhag is a thousand. Let's do it. Who will help me? And I am so grateful if you're listening here and you invited people and told people, posted about it on social media and all of that, you are the real mvp. I am so grateful for you. And so people spread the word out. And it wasn't till the morning of, the morning of, we were at 600, we were at 961 or some number like that. And by 10 o', clock, we were at 1038. So crazy, right? But in the process of doing that, I had to change. I had to become an updated version of myself. I had to build new connections. I had to own my mission more and all of these things. So. So it was just beautiful. When you own a goal and you go after the goal, the benefit is one, the goal being accomplished. But the bigger benefit is who you become in the process. The other opportunities that are spinoffs that come because of it and all of that, it was just phenomenal. Okay, all right. So. So you want to own a goal, you want to set a goal, you want to own a goal. Now, the biggest thing that will stop you is, but how? How am I going to do that? How am I going to do that? So when it comes to setting your goals, we do not have the how conversation. It is a what conversation, okay? It is not a how. We will get to the how. It is not a how conversation. So you allow yourself decide, I'm going to do this, I'm going to do this. Okay? When last year was, when I set a goal, I was like, in Entre md, we're going to do a million dollars in revenue, okay? And set that goal. I had no idea how I was going to do that. I had done all the math in the world. I was like, I Don't see how this can happen. But I owned the goal. I owned it. And I was like, we're going to do it. So I would keep brainstorming, I would do things. I have mediums with my team. But in the meantime, we were doing to the max what we knew to do. But I knew what we know to do cannot produce a million. It just cannot. And we kept doing that. And I was just staying curious. What's the how?
What's the how?
And so I would talk to people, I'd read books, I'll listen to podcasts. I'll do all of that stuff. I'll talk to my coach. And then in doing all of that, I'm still looking for the how. And so by the end of the first quarter, we had done $120,000. And, you know, I'm like, I understand math and I understand 120. A quarter comes to $480,000, which is barely half of what the goal was. But somewhere at the end of the first quarter, I got the how. And the reason why I'm sharing this with you is because I didn't get the how until three months in. And then we started executing, and at the end of the day, we hit our goal, right? And so the how doesn't show up. When it's time to set your goals. Now you're like, but how? How do I know the difference between a fantasy and a goal, right? Like, wishful thinking. Like, how do I know it's just a dream that's never going to happen? So this is the deal. At this stage, you need the what, and you need the commitment to do what it takes. If you have those two, then it's not a fantasy, okay? But if you said something and you're like, you know, you're not willing to do what it takes, even though you don't know what is what, what is, but you're like, you know, you're not willing, then that's wishful thinking. But if you're like, this is what I want to do, I don't know how I'm going to get it done. I'm willing to find the how, and I'm willing to execute on the how, then that is not a fantasy, even though you don't know how, okay? Because I was willing. I made the commitment. So I committed to the what, and I was committed to do whatever it takes. And in the beginning, doing whatever it takes meant finding whatever. Finding out what. Whatever it takes is, right? And I was willing to do that, and I was Willing to meet every week to talk about, to review that, to search that. I was willing to do all of that. So you set the intention, you set the goal, and you make sure you have the commitment. I'm going to do what it takes. That's how you did med school. I'm going to do what it takes. That's how you became a doctor. Okay. All right, so that's the first thing. Set the goal. Second thing is to reverse engineer. Okay, so now that you set the goal, now you've committed to the what, now it's time to reverse engineer. And I, you know, I posted on. On. On Facebook, you know, there's a. There's a book, think and Grow Rich. Really great book. Really, really great book. And sometimes people are like, oh, it's all in your thoughts. And you just think, and then you get results. I'm like, yeah, you skipped a few things. Right? And so I posted on Facebook, I was like, think. And then in parentheses, I put and do a lot of stuff and grow rich. So you think you do a lot of stuff and you go rich. You don't skip the action piece. You don't skip the plan. You don't skip what to do, because you still need to do that. Okay, so now that you've determined the what, now is the time you ask the how. So what do I need to do for this to happen? You. You start reverse engineering it. Okay, now, for a lot of your goals, it will include mindset shifts, action that needs to take place, maybe some people you need. It could be a team, it could be a mentor, it could be a program, whatever, right? And you reverse engineer it. Okay? But. But most importantly is the action that you need to take. Okay, so, for instance, and I'm just totally making this up, you're a coach, and you say, this year is going to be my first year, that I cross six figures. Wonderful. So that is the goal. Okay? So you set it and you're like, I am committed to do whatever it takes. And then you're like, the second step is to reverse engineer. So if I want to make 100,000 a year, and I have a coaching package that is for the sake of art, you know, for the sake of easy math, let's say it's $10,000 a year. Okay? So that's a little less than $1,000 a month. So when people work with you, they pay 10,000 for the year, or $850 a month. Let's just put it that way. Okay? That means that you need to get 10 clients who are going to say yes to doing that with you. Right? You need to get 10 clients who are willing to pay you $10,000 for the year. And you hit your first $100,000. And then you look at the sales statistics and you say, for me to get 10 people, let's say I'm not really good at sales because I'm just starting. The conversion ratio is 10%, which means for every hundred people you talk to, 10 people will say yes. And so that means that I am going to have 100 sales conversations so that I can get 10 clients who will pay me $10,000 a year, and I'll end up with $100,000 for the year. Now let's say you're even better and your conversion rate is about, you know, for the sake of math, is 50%. That means you're going to have 20 conversations and that will give you 10 clients who are paying $10,000, and you end up with 100,000. Now, I know all your goals are not numbers, but numbers are just easy to measure. It's easy to do the math. And that's why I'm using that to demonstrate reverse engineering. So let's go back to 10%. So your conversion ratio is 10%. I remember you made the commitment to do whatever it takes. That means you're going to put your head down and you're going to put yourself out there to get 100 sales conversations, knowing that it will give you 10 clients, that will give you $100,000. Do you see what I mean? And so maybe you might need to do some mindset work around sales. Conversations are not sleazy, slimy things. This is me having conversation with people, showing them what I can do, analyzing the problem they can have. So I see if this relationship between the coach and the person being coached will be a win win situation. So it's not this yucky, slimy thing I do to manipulate people and take their money. It is me seeing if their problem and my solution are a good match. Do you see? And so that's reverse engineering. Of course. This is with all areas of your life. But, you know, we're talking about the, the business aspect here. Maybe your thing is that you, you want to build an A team, right? And then you have to start asking your questions. Who do I need to bring on my bus? Who do I need to take off of my bus? Do I need to have meetings every week for accountability and motivation? What kind of vision casting do I do? You decide on all these things to Create the result that you want, and then it's time to execute and get it done. And so that's reverse engineering. Reverse engineering. So set the intention. But the intention alone is not going to make the goal come to pass is the intention plus the plan. How do you get the plan? Reverse engineer. Okay, all right. Number three. Number three. I read this from Michael Hyatt's book, your Best Year Yet. I think that's what it's called. And in there, somebody talked about the fact that people set goals, but very few people build relationships with their goals. And I could identify with that because I had a year in my life. If you listen to the podcast, you've heard me, you've heard me talk about it, where one year to the next, my goals were exactly the same because I said it and forgot about it. I did not build a relationship with my goals. I did not remember it. It wasn't in my subconscious. My mind wasn't working on it all the time because it was just far away. And so what I did is I started building a relationship with my goals, right? And like any other relationship, the currency is time. And so that means I look at my goals every day as part of my daily five, right? I look at my goals every day. I have a vision board. Actually, I'm staring at it right now. Vision board in front of me. So my goals are in front of me. I have the digital version of my vision board as the screensaver on my phone and the screensaver on my computer. So everywhere I go, there, my goals are there. My vision is right. I even have it saved. Oh, so this is so cool. I have it saved on my phone as a voice memo. And so what I did is I recorded myself as though it was me on December 31st of this year, right? Telling this version of me today, like, oh, my goodness, girl, we did it. We ended up doing this and we did that, and we did this and we did that. Like, it's so amazing. So don't let anything discourage you. Don't stop. Don't hold back. We actually did it, right? And so sometimes I would just play that to myself and, you know, so what is that? That's all building a relationship with my goal. Because the human beings, again, we're just like that. The more you stare at somebody, something, the more you think about it, the more you let it roll over in your mind, the more creative you get, the more solutions become apparent, is just wonderful. And so you're just this machine that can do that. And how do you trigger it to work in your favor. You control the input into your machine. So the more you put your goals, your vision, all of that stuff into your machine, the it delivers to you. It is unbelievable. Okay, so that's what I do. I set the goal, I reverse engineer, I build a relationship with Michael. I set the goal. I reverse engineer, I build a relationship with my goals. Okay? So you can become, you can become a goal achieving machine. So for you, what do I want you to do today? If you haven't set your goals, go set them. Okay? If you've set them, but you haven't created a plan, go create the plan. If you've created a plan, but you haven't built a relationship, you haven't set the stage to build a relationship with your goals, then start that process. But I want you to do all three of these things. It will change your life. Let me tell you. Even if, even if, because I told you the goal, I told you about a goal that I didn't hit, and I told you about a goal that I did hit. But in both cases, my life, my business, everything was transformed because I gave my all. And that's what I do with my goals. I leave it all out there. So even if I don't hit it, I don't feel bad because it was a hundred percent execution. I executed right? And because I executed, I'm different, new opportunities show up. I do do a lot more than I would have done otherwise even if I didn't hit the goal right? So there's no need to, to not set it. There's no need to be afraid that I'm not gonna hit it. You do your 100% right. And so I would love for you to become a goal achieving machine. And you can be, and you can totally transform your lives every 12 months. Like every 12 months, you can be completely different. Actually, the truth of the matter is if you do this every 90 days, you'll be different every 90 days. So the Entre MD business school is about to be two. It's about to be two years old, and people made comments like, wow, it seems a lot more mature than that. People are like, it's only been two years and all of this has happened. The people who started know that the business school they signed up for and the business school they're a part of now are completely different. And one of the reasons for it is I constantly set goals, reverse engineer, build a relationship with my goals to make it better, and make it better, and make it better. Total transformation. Every quarter, different, better, and you can do that in your business. You can do that in every aspect of your life. But it starts from setting goals, reverse engineering, and building a relationship with your goals. So get to work. I cannot wait to hear all the stories of your massive transformation because you start engaging this process. So please share this with another doctor in your life. There are many doctors who feel stuck. There are many doctors who think they can't make their businesses better. There are many doctors who are doing really well in business but secretly want more but don't think they can get there. And this is what this is the missing link. Okay, so share this with another doctor in your life. They will thank you forever. And I will see you, my friend, on the next episode of the ontremd podcast.
