If your business isn't working the way you expected, it's not because you're bad at business. It's because no one ever taught you how it actually works. We were trained to master algorithms in medicine, but when it comes to revenue teams and growth, we were never taught anything. We weren't even told to figure it out. We just assumed somehow we'd know. Like it would magically make sense. But it doesn't. The era of the seven Figure Physician CEO is here. And it's not about working harder. It's about learning entrepreneurship as a system. The same way you mastered ACLs and pals, you can master the algorithm of building a profitable scalable business. That's why I recorded the Seven Figure Physician CEO audiobook. Whether you're building a medical or non medical business, and whether your goal is your first million, first 2 million, first 5 million, first 10 million, this is where the journey starts. There is no calvary coming to save us. We are the Calvary. So. So go get your audiobook now. Www.entremd.com 7Figurebook. And let's rewrite the narrative for physicians starting today.
Hi, docs. Welcome to the Entre MD Podcast where it is all about helping amazing physicians just like you. Embrace entrepreneurship so you can have the freedom to live life and and practice medicine on your terms. I'm your host, Dr. Una. Well, welcome back. Okay, so listen, I want you to take a moment right before you even listen to this and hit the share button and share this episode with five or ten doctors in your life, because this is going to be one of the most impactful episodes you have ever listened to on the Ontremdi podcast. If we've never met before, I'm Dr. Una, the host. I'm so glad that you're listening. And this is gonna be a game changer. We're gonna talk about something that's really a soft skill, but it's such a powerful skill. Not something we really learned about in medical school, but something that high performance people use to make changes in their lives, in their careers, in their business, and that is visualization. Okay, so I heard this story years ago about Jim Carrey and Jim Carrey of Dumb and Dumber and Mask and Ace Ventura, those movies before he was famous, Jim Carrey wrote himself a check for $10 million and in the memo section put for acting services rendered and dated it for Thanksgiving of 1995. At the time he wrote this, he was broke and nobody really wanted him on their movies. So, I mean, it was really, really, really Far fetched. So he put this check in his wallet, kept it there, and he would park his car on the famous Mulholland Drive every single night and visualize having directors interested in him and people he respected saying, I like your work, Jim. Now, just before Thanksgiving of 1995, Jim Carrey found out he would be receiving Temple Million for his role in Dumb and Dumber. So think about this. Someone who was not doing well, didn't look like anything was working to go from that to $10 million. And all that started this off was visualization. Okay? And it's the same principle I've read about high performance athletes. They do it. You have golfers that before they take the shot, they would literally close their eyes, visualize it going into the hole, and then they hit the. They go for their shot. Basketball players who would sit for hours eyes closed, and they're literally envisioning themselves. Two pointer, three pointer, two pointer, three pointer. Like back to back to back. So if successful artists do this, if successful athletes do this, if Olympians do this, then we should pay attention to it. Okay? Now I also read the story of Kayla Harrison and she wrote this. You know, this was in an article before, before she did the 2016 Olympics. Okay, but she won the 2010 world champion, 2012 Olympics and 2016 as well. And she's a judoka. I didn't know that was the name for people who do judo. But that's, you know, that's what she is. So this is what was written about her. Kayla Harrison, who is seeking to defend her Olympic judo title at the Rio Games, spends time dating daily imagining success at the Olympic Games. So this is her account of it. Every night I visualize myself winning the Olympics. I picture myself bombing the girl in the finals and standing on top of the podium and watching the flag go up and feeling the gold medal go around my neck and hugging my coach. I visualize all of that. And every night, okay, so she said this before she won the championship and she went on to win the championship. So at the end of the day, this is something as entrepreneurs that we need to pay attention to. So let's talk about it. All right, before I go into that, I want to give you some super exciting news and that is that Entre MD Live is happening June 27, 2020. No coronavirus is gonna stop us. It's gonna be a virtual edition just from the comfort of your home. But trust me, it's not gonn boring webinar. It is literally going to be the game changing events that Entre MD is known to pull off. And three things are going to happen in this event. One is that you are going to be inspired to see what new heights are possible. You are going to get a roadmap to make these things possible. And you're going to leave with bite size strategies you can implement right away. You've listened to this podcast more than once. You know that I'm not about fluff. I'm not about things that don't work. I'm about here's enough for you to take action right now. And as you take these steps, everything changes. Okay? Because what I want for doctors is I want us to stop being cogs in the wheels. I want us to stop being numbers in corporate medicine. I want us to stop sitting on business ideas that we haven't been able to implement or get off the ground for years. I want us to take businesses we already have and make them better, make them more profitable so they can fund the life we want to live. And what I mean by that is not just so you can buy a Ferrari. If that's what you want, by all means, do it. But you know what is valuable to you in life? Maybe it's more time with your kids. Maybe it's working two days a week. Maybe it's putting away enough so that you can retire your spouse. I don't know what that is for you, but your career should be leveraged. Your medical degree should be leveraged, that you can pay for whatever lifestyle it is that you want. And you have freedom to practice medicine on your own terms. And you have freedom to create all the things that you know that are possible. So sign up for it. Entre md.com event all of this yumminess is gonna be, you know, for less than the cost of a flight to Atlanta or a hotel. And you can do it from the comfort of your home. And even if you're in a different time zone, it's 10am Eastern, so it will work. Just get your tickets and come have an amazing time. Okay? All right, let's go back to visualization. Now, one of the reasons why this is so critical is if you look at the research, we have between 70,000 to 120,000 thoughts per day. And most of them are negative. Okay? So somehow, some way, we're visualizing all day, right? If I come to you and I say, oh, you know, I have a red dress on, you don't see your mind's eye. R E D D R E S S no, you picture a red dress, right? If Somebody comes and says, oh, you know, this is what is going on in businesses. And 80% are going out of business in the first five years. Most of are really good at visualizing what that would be like. Like, okay, so that means I start the business and the clients didn't like it and I got bad reviews and I had to close and I wasn't able to pay off the, the mortgage or the loan I took to start the business. I have to take another job. I mean, we just go, we just, we, we go all out and visualize this stuff. So we're going to start talking first of all from negative visualization. Okay? So there are three kinds, negative visualization, and we're going to stop it, okay? So it's stuff like, oh, I'm gonna get fired, I'm never gonna be able to start off that business, or I start the business and the business fails, or I start the business and I get sued, or I gonna owe a lot of taxes because I can't figure out how this tax thing works or nobody will use my product or my service or, you know, no one likes me. I'm not really an entrepreneur. I'm a fraud, I'm not worthy, stuff like that. And the thing is, these are just not words. We take them and we make pictures out of them, right? We take pictures out of them. So I want you to make a commitment to stop, right? Don't allow negative thoughts sit in your mind. It's not a dumping ground. We can't just take all the negative things that fly around and, you know, accept it, okay? And we definitely don't want to build pictures around it because visualization works and it's a principle. It's like gravity. So gravity works whether it's working for you or against you, right? So if you decide I'm gonna jump off a building and I'm gonna fly, gravity is gonna be like, no, you're not gonna fly. We're gonna take you down. Right? Gravity has no respect to whether you're making this work for you or against you. It's just gravity. In the same way visualization would work whether you choose negative visualization or positive visualization. So it's important that we guard what we think about our business. The second type is limiting visualization. So maybe it's not so bad. Like, okay, I'm a physician, I have a six figure salary and I have created a six figure business. But I can't make it any bigger than that, right? I don't want to make it bigger than that because I don't want to do the work is different, but I can't, which is not true. I mean, that's a limiting belief. And we take that and we make pictures around it, and it becomes our reality. So, you know, things like, I can't make six figures. I can't grow my business any bigger than this. I can't build a high capacity team, right? Like, so if anything's gonna be done right, I have to do it. I can't pay high quality employees and stuff like that. I'm. I'm, you know, scared of spending money to improve my business, reinvesting my business and stuff like that. Those are all limiting. They may not seem as bad, but they're limiting. Okay. Now, the third is the. Is our favorite, and it's the one we want to start doing and make it a habit, and we just keep doing it. We're, you know, okay, so it's positive visualization. You know, you have the right pictures. You have the picture of the future that you want to create, and the picture is working for you, and you're filled with endless optimism because that picture is what you have in your mind day in and day out, where you begin to believe it more than you believe your fears. It is amazing. So I want to show you how to do that. Okay, so there's some things you can. There are three things you can do. So the first thing you can do is create a mental picture of success. Remember the story of Kayla Harrison that I read? It's kind of like I feel the gold against my neck. I see the flag going up. I'm standing on the podium, I hug my coach, and I'm sure she took that even further. You know, when I got to the United. Back to the United States, this is the kind of party they had for me. And, you know, and these are the kind of endorsements I got. And, you know, these are the kind of speaking gigs I got from that. I'm sure she even had more things to imagine about it. So what's your mental picture of success? You need to know what that is. Okay. And it doesn't have to start off complicated. Start with something Jim Carrey didn't do a whole lot. I mean, he had a $10 million check that he wrote, and he's like, you know, people come and say, I like your acting and stuff like that. For me, one of my dreams is, you know, if you haven't heard my story before, I started off, you know, introverted, introvert, scared of entrepreneurship. Didn't think I could Pull it off, thought other people were better than me, and went through a series of things and then figured out that it's a learnable skill. I mean, like, we can do this, and it's so much easier than the complicated things that we learn in medical school and in residency and fellowship and all that stuff. And that's when I started helping doctors. And I did the math. I'm like, oh, my God, there's 1 million doctors in the United States, and most of them are employed. And they. They don't think there's anything other than what they already do. Like, go to medical school, go to residency, get a good job as an attending, and stay there till you retire. And we all have other passions, and the passions may be in medicine or outside of medicine, but if we understand business and how business works and how to monetize those passions, then we can make it bigger and we can help more people. So my mental picture of success is. Is being able to help 80,000 doctors embrace entrepreneurship. Okay? So that's my thing, right? One of the targets I have is a vanity goal, right? I've talked about this. It's a vanity goal. But I'm like, I want to have a hundred thousand downloads on my podcast because it's a. It's an indicator of doctors that I'm helping, doctors out there that I'm helping. You know? So I play that picture in my mind. I play the picture of people coming and saying, oh, my gosh, I finally started that practice. I finally started that business. Or I finally made my first six figures in business. Or I find, you know, you guys know, I celebrate everything, right? I finally did that first video, and I got two new patients because of it. I finally embraced, you know, I have that picture in my mind, and I played in my mind and played in my mind so that when the fears come, I'm like, yeah, but I can't give up on my dream, because the dream has taken root. The dream is. Is real. It's. It's not. It's not like this thing that I remember once a year when I write goals. It's real, okay? So create that mental picture. Take a moment. Write it out. Look, this is an assignment you cannot get wrong, okay? So just write it out. Don't overcomplicate it. Don't say, what if it's not the thing? If it's not the thing, it will lead you to the thing. That's the thing. So just do it, okay? Create a mental picture. What does that look like? Maybe in your practice? And there's been a ceiling that you want to hit. Let me tell you what happened to me. I didn't realize that my imagination was free. I felt like I needed someone's permission to dream higher. So I'll go like, no, I can't have that kind of practice. It's your imagination. I mean, like, you're making. You're literally making this stuff up. You can imagine whatever you want. That's why kids can come and say, I'm going to be an astronaut. I'm going to be the President of the United States. They can't imagine that. Okay. And I know, I know our doctor minds are going like, yeah, but there's more to success than visualization. Of course there is. And we're going to get to it. Okay, but just roll with me here. Okay, so if there's a kind of practice you've always wanted, but you've convinced yourself that you can't, I want you to take those limiters off and I want you to imagine it. I want you to play it out. I want you to see what it will look like. I want to see walking in there. If there's a kind of stage you've wanted to be on, a number of people you want to be speaking to, imagine yourself on that stage. It's free. Imagine yourself on that stage. Imagine the crowd. Imagine them. Thank you. Imagine them writing you, sending an email months later to say, this is how my life changed because of that one talk you did. Imagine it. Okay, so that's the first thing. Create a mental picture of success. The second thing is start doing mental reps. You know the way if you want to build a muscle, they'll tell you, oh, do the bicep curls. Oh, then do 10 reps, then do that, then do 4 more reps, then do that. You can do mental reps, which means you take that picture. See how Kayla Harrison says, I listen, I did this thing every night, right? Same thing with Jim Carrey. I did this thing every night. Just take it, right? And take a moment, get off of social media for a moment and imagine it. And imagine it. And imagine it beginning to end. This doesn't have to take. It may not even take longer than a minute, but just imagine. So do your reps where every day you're imagining it, every day you're imagining it, and every time you imagine it creates more of a route than you know than was there before. Then the third thing, for those of you who are like, it takes a little more. The third thing is take corresponding action, okay? Take corresponding action. So if your theme is, I'm gonna be a speaker and I'm gonna do a lot of crowds, you start speaking today. You don't wait for the crowds. So what that means if nobody has given you a stage, for the love of Christ, there's social media and you have a platform. Get on the platform, start talking. I have gotten speaking gigs from what I did on Facebook. I have gotten speaking gigs from a video I put on YouTube. So start speaking. If you have an opportunity to speak to a group of 10 people, speak to them like you're speaking to that big crowd. You never know who's sit the audience, right? Do reach out, say, hey, I see you're having, you're, you know, you do virtual events and all that stuff. Are you looking for a speaker? But get out there and start doing that right? If you're like, I'm going to have this kind of practice now. You know where those bottlenecks are, you know where the deficiencies are. Start working on them. So you have to do the work. But it starts from the place of visualization. So kind of, you know, think about it this way. It's like an architect takes a plan, a picture, and makes it, you know, concrete. But it's concrete on paper, right? He puts it on paper, he sets the stage. But the builders now need to go build according to that plan. So you've done the visualizations like you've created a mental picture, you've created the mental plan. Now your job is to now be the builder and build according to specification. Put your action behind it. If you visualize without a commitment to action is not. Visualization is daydreaming, okay? And we don't have time to daydream, okay? So make it real. Visualize, do your mental reps and then do action, okay? And if you do that, everything changes. So this is what I want you to do. I want you to commit to do this every day for the next 90 days. I literally want you to set a daily reminder on your phone. And you can, because I know I'm going to hear stories from this. Do your daily reminder on your phone. And every day, do this new habit. The truth of the matter is, if you do it for 90 days, you're not gonna stop. That's why I'm telling you to do it for 90 days. And then I wanna hear your stories. Cause I know amazing things are gonna happen because of this. I want you to share it with me. Doctoruna D R U N auntremd.com I would love to hear it. In fact, as you start, you can even take a picture of the reminder on your phone and post it on social media. I'm committing to a new habit and tag me hashtag on tremd. Okay, so imagine that you do this. Oh, my word. And you find out that your dreams can actually become reality. Those things you've had that you've been like, oh, I can't do that. I go, I can't qualify for that. I'm not worried of that. Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. They're all gone. And even when things are challenging, like right now, while, you know, at the time of this recording, we're the COVID 19 era. And if you've been listening to me since the beginning, I've been like, in spite of this pandemic, I'm going to thrive. In spite of this pandemic, I'm going to thrive because that picture is so much more solid in me than anything the economy can throw at me, right? And then it opens me up because I come from a place of positivity. I come up with creative ideas, I come up with things to do. I'm taking action consistently, and I'm thriving despite the pandemic. Okay, so imagine you do this. Just imagine it. All right? So remember to get your tickets. I want to see you on June 27th. 2020 is going to be the starting of a brand new phase for you. All right? And I'll see you on the next episode of the Entre MD podcast. If you love this podcast, please take a moment to subscribe, share and review it on itunes as you go about your week. Remember, you're not just an md, you're an Entree md. Don't forget to tune in next week for another great episode.
Until next time.
