John Rawls argued for balancing wealth incentives against inequality. Elon Musk has $300 billion while the bottom 55% of Americans hold essentially zero wealth. Rawls had a solution, but it's still mostly theoretical.

I'm a big fan of the John Rawls proposition about how we should judge the how we should construct systems to distribute the wealth that's created by society. And one of the things that one of the questions he grapples with is income inequality and wealth inequality, and that without having the ability for people to somehow accumulate extra wealth due to their own efforts, people aren't going to want to work. But yet how do you also do that in a way that's fair and doesn't cause Elon Musk to be worth $300 billion while the bottom 55% of the American public is worth cumulatively zero? And his answer, which I think is a great one, is and unfortunately, it's theoretical.
