A therapist offered false comfort, but Wayne and a friend gave something better: honest feedback wrapped in kindness. The speaker could finally stop pretending to be fine and admit when things weren't okay.

The therapy wasn't great, but the coaching was good. So I received some coaching from a friend and Wayne. She was the first person in my life that was ever able to be very kind and very direct with me. She was able to give me feedback about what I was experiencing, and she helped me learn how to have a real conversation. And she was safe for me to really fall apart. It was safe for me to tell her what was really happening with me. And instead of giving me some type of false sense of comfort, she was able to say, amy, you're going to be okay. And you don't get to keep up the old rhetoric. You don't have to be fine. You don't have to say, it's okay. It's not okay.
