Stop admiring your heroes and mentors. Here's why. I used to have a mentor of mine that I put on this massive pedestal. Just life, business, family, success. And it was like, when I'm older, I want to be just like him. But what happens when you get to know someone? You realize that there are elements of them that don't align with you. I had this mentor that I thought was amazing, and I went and spent some more quality time with him over a period of a couple days, and I learned that he wasn't the person that I had created in my head. It actually set me up for disappointment, where I then was like, okay, well, what do I do next? Instead of admiring some person or some figure, create a future version of yourself as who you like to be and admire that person and move towards that person, because that's the only person that really matters.
