Dylan Vergara explains how to jump between sales niches. When switching roles, treat your resume like a Venn diagram and focus 100% of your messaging on the 20% of skills that overlap. Candidates who hyper-focus on that sliver get dramatically more interview callbacks.

If you're not getting job offers, much less interviews for the jobs you actually want, take this lesson away from this veteran sales recruiter that I just interviewed. This is literally the number one thing that I took away from a full 2-hour interview. It's probably useful to you. Let's say you're trying to go from a door-to-door sales role, let's say solar, to a remote closing sales role, maybe in the coaching industry. Both of those roles have characteristics that are unique to them. But think about a Venn diagram. I hope you know what that is. Let's say between those 2 roles, that interlap in that middle part, it is— there's a 20% overlap. He let me know that you can get so much further making 100% of your resume and your focus on that 20% than just focusing on what you did over here or what you want to do over here. Yes, this takes creativity, it takes some thought, and he says nobody does this except the ones who do and they get the jobs they want. So point of all this, just hyperfocus on the overlap between the 2 jobs, even if it's just a sliver, and watch how many more interviews you get. Last thing, if you're in sales, give me a follow because it's all I talk about.
