How Miriam made $13.5k working from home last month

Miriam left her lash-coaching business to try high-ticket phone sales and made $13.5K CAD in her fourth month. She closed a $4,500 deal at 14% commission, got there through time-blocking and batching calls, and credits community mentorship for her rapid ramp-up.

All right, you guys, welcome back to another community member interview. We've got Miriam out of Vancouver. I'd like to say we manifested this moment. We made some jokes about how there were no $10K per month female interviews yet, and we were like, maybe you'll be the first. And here you are, you're the first. So thank you for coming on.
Yeah, thank you for having me. Excited.
Hopefully the first of many. I think we got some more in the works. Before we get any deeper into this interview, guys, I want to run this business for a long time. And because I want to do that, I have to be extra careful about income claims and all that crazy shit that other people promise that bites them in the ass. So I'm not going to do that on this interview. I'm going to tell you Miriam's result. The reason why we're filming it is because it's a good result. Okay? Good result does not necessarily mean it's an average result. It's definitely not a guaranteed result. There's a lot of people out there who are going to flash certain outcomes, income in your bank or whatever, like things that they don't control. And they're the same people that won't be here in a year. So we want to do things the right way. Our goal, by almost like pushing people away in a sense, is to have the right fits more attracted to what we do and how we operate. So is $13.5K Canadian a super far-fetched top 0.0001% result? No, it's not. But at the same time, it's not average. So anyways, just wanted to throw that in there, you guys. We're never going to guarantee income or anything, but we can guarantee the platform to do something like Miriam has done. So now that we're on the same page, Let's get into it. But yeah, guys, just want to come in here, tell you guys Miriam's story kind of chronologically, where she was at before she started, why she wanted to look into something like this, how it went initially. And we're obviously here. I don't know what title and thumbnail is, but I think last month was $13.5K or somewhere around there.
$13.3K-ish. Yeah. Canadian.
Okay, cool. Canadian too. So it was like $9K. What's the conversion?
I think $9.6K USD.
As a sutter. I remember you coming in, like you kept kind of talking about it, like, hey, I don't really have that much sales experience. And I was like, wait, you actually have a fair amount. Like, we just need to spin this in the right way. And, you know, here we are. So anyways, kind of tell the story. You have been a business owner for a while.
Yeah. So I've always been, I've never actually worked a 9 to 5. So 10 years in the business coaching space, very different niche and industry though. So front-facing roles in the lash industry.
So business coaching for lashes, specifically.
Certification programs. Yeah.
Interesting. And then primarily you get demand for that through like social media or do you use other—
Yeah, primarily it was all organic and then social media, a lot of SEO, Google. So I became familiar with systems, but it was a very one-man show, small business show kind of. So.
I don't know so much about that space, but what I do know is there's a lot of people who try to do not so much the business coaching, but I know a lot of people or have heard of people trying to do like lash or like that kind of stuff, but they don't really find too much success. So I wanna set the record straight for y'all listening. Miriam does pretty good with this business, so much so that she had a little bit more free time on her hands than, than she knew what to do with. And that's how we ended up here, I guess, right?
Yeah, I, I would say like it took a long time. The first 5 years are very grind in, and then the last 5 years I had my systems, things are optimized. So I was probably, you know, working 7 days a month. And had a lot of freedom. So, cool. I mean, still a lot of hard work, but I wanted to retire. I retired outta my clientele is how it went. So the full 40, 50-hour weeks moved over and that's kind of what ended us up looking into this. Mm-hmm.
Yeah. So what, you know, there's like a million things you could do. You hadn't really done, I mean, you make the case that you had done sales, but you hadn't had like a sales job before. So what was pointing you towards this out of like everything else out there?
It's actually funny cuz I think it was a pretty humbling experience. When I was like, hey, I'm not doing my clientele full-time, what do I wanna do? And then I started looking into skill-adjacent industries and I was very underqualified on paper. So you come with all this experience, 10 years, and no one wants to interview you. No one wants to like, you know, I don't have it on paper, I don't have a degree. So it was like, what the heck? And that's pretty much what landed me here was, okay, let's bring my life skills, my skillset somewhere where I I can kind of go off of those. And that's where I ended up talking to you very briefly about what it looked like. And then I did some digging.
Had you looked into like other types of sales too, or was it just like, this is what I found and this is what I went after?
Yeah. So I had people in my circle. One of my friends ran a door-to-door sales team for about 2 years. I was just not interested at that at this time doing the door-to-door. And then another friend managed 2 other teams with solar. So I kind of knew a bit about it. And then the high-ticket sales space was just You know, more compelling to me in terms of remote work and, you know, all the potential freedoms that came with it. And I wanted to hold onto that.
Also some good context to lay down here. Uh, you hit the $13,500 Canadian month 3, I think you, you made that nice post. We'll throw it up here of like the timeline. Like, hey, if you guys are new, like this is what happened with me. Was it 3 and a half months that you had written?
I wanna say it was right around 3 and a half months. Yes.
Okay. And landing, and there's obviously a buildup, like most of these roles you have to get in, learn the ropes. You start to suddenly like get more priority if you're good, or they lean down the team, whatever. There's a lot of things that happen that lead to a commission buildup like that. Can you talk a little bit about finding that offer to begin with? You know, some people, it is pretty hard for them to find something of quality. Other people, they apply to one job, they get one job, like. What was it like for you?
Yeah, for sure. I mean, when I joined the program, I was very like dialed in. When I'm doing something, it's like go time. So you had like the 4-on-4 calls set up that walk you through the whole process to land the offers. I think I went through that within a week. I only went to one live call before I started interviewing. I didn't even finish the calls yet to this day. So I think I still have 3 more left, just saying. But long story short, you know, all the offers are coming in, so now it's just a matter of vetting them well, and then volume. So I was like, okay, we'll just apply to everything that looks good and then find good alignment. So I think a mix of right time, right place. Of course, the network and the community, you can't put a price on that. I would've not found any of these offers. So it happened, I would say in a sense, abnormally quick for me. I think it was since I paid, I was on an offer within maybe 3 weeks.
I was gonna pull up your, uh, little tracker here. I don't—
I have the notes too somewhere.
I mean, I see, uh, assuming this is fully updated, which, you know, only you really know that. It looks like you got hit the ground running. Looks like 36 applications.
There was a lot in the beginning.
And I don't know if this is fully updated as well, but you wrote 4 interviews, 3 offers extended. Does that sound about accurate on interviews?
For sure. Like I will say the first 2 weeks was intense. It was like high volume. Like I was watching everything as it came out the second you said like speed to lead with interviews. So I sent out a ton, 36. So 3 was— or 4 or so that I took, and then I think 3 were offered. Yeah, that sounds right.
You're probably watching this video because you want to hear from somebody else how they were able to achieve a certain outcome through a remote sales job. In this case, Miriam. Well, what if I told you at the tip of your fingers you could have basically everybody who we've recorded interviews with for free? You can. It's called the TSSC Success Query Bot. You can get it down below, second link in the description. All of these interviews have been loaded into a database that you can ask questions to about your scenario, how to enter the space, how to do one thing or another. And it has tons of data, more data than you're going to capture from this standalone interview. This database is updated when we film more and more and more interviews, so it just gets better. And we are on the pursuit to 100 $10,000 per month interviews, and they'll all be loaded up into that. So go down below, second link, grab that. And now back to it with Miriam. There's probably a chance that we talked about this before you made it, but it's been some time. How did you pick the offer that you chose over the other 2 that were extended?
Yeah, so I would say the conversation that you, you and I had very briefly, and then actually speaking to the sales manager. I mean, the other offer was completely different niche industry. It was a little bit, the interview process a little bit more sketch. And I think it just helped me vet it as well as speaking to members in this space. People knew my sales manager and could vouch for a trusted source. So although it wasn't as shiny of an offer, I think like that goes so much further for sure. And that's really what drew me to that paired with the conviction I had in what the offer actually was and who I'd be speaking to.
You know, when you join something that's not free or cheap and you can get those like direct referrals or direct interviews, it's like, it's a cheat code. Literally the guy, I, I don't like to share like names of companies and people so much on here, but the guy that ended up posting the role that Miriam worked into, We have an interview from maybe like 2023 and he was in solar sales before and did his first, actually, I think he did $10K a month DM setting, moved up. Now he's in management and, you know, it's been a little bit. He does all right. So it's just funny how it all works out that way. But let's talk about, you're in the role. You'd never really done this before. And this is where I want you to be honest to the people because I know you've been working hard. Okay. We're not going to glaze over. The fact that Miriam is working very hard to get the outcome that she has, but being a phone setter, you know, you're in an agency where they have good systems and there's speed to lead, high accountability, right?
Yeah.
But like going from newest setter on the offer to now basically self-setting your own closing calls, like what did you have to do in the beginning to become the version that, that you are today of yourself, which is like, I can close my own calls pretty much.
Yeah, I mean, the first 2 weeks definitely aren't the prettiest, and that's kind of where you earn your stripes. I think more so independently, just long hours. I'll be real, it's long hours. It's learning the system. So there's a lot that goes into it. And beyond that, I really think it just comes down to, to self-accountability. Like, I wanna learn from the best people and I wanna learn as fast as I can from the best people. And I think this offer, I'm so lucky to have a wonderful sales team where I went in the first week, I binged. Every single successful setting call, and then I binged all the closing calls. So I wanted to know and then be the expert in it, even from the setter point. So I think that definitely propelled it. And then I was willing to do really, really long weeks as fast as I could and then kind of dial back once I learned the balance there. But I mean, you have to be a little psycho if you wanna do that in the first 8 weeks.
Yeah.
I think time-wise, time-wise for sure.
Yeah. Every offer is so different, right? You, you happen to be on one that I, you know, I would even say myself, it seems to be, I've never worked in there, but from what I've heard, like the nature of the team is a little grindier, you know, like you're, you're putting in maybe a few more dials or a few more hours. And I know a lot of people that work on that team or in that, that organization and they love it. You know, like it's not for everybody. You know, there's some people that come into this space and they're like, yeah, I want to make $10K a month from like Bali and work 2 hours a day. There's opportunity to do that, but it's really tough to find, you know? So how much can you like attribute, let's say, to good team culture, support, like a high accountability environment? Like you guys listening, I hope you could tell that Miriam's the kind of person that you show her the way, she's going to maximize it. It was that way with the calls. It was that way with the application. It was that way with the role, but like making sure that that supportive backing is there? Like how much of a lift do you think that has been since you've been on that team?
I think it's huge because I wouldn't have, well, I think the mentors, you can't put a price on a good mentor and I would've paid for that independently either way. So when you get that on your offer, the value of having a great closing coach, sales coach is huge. So yeah, I mean, I would say that definitely drove a lot and it also opened doors of opportunity because when you're performing, they'll give you better opportunities. there. So for sure, it definitely contributes to, yeah.
And I remember we had a call and you're like, you know, setting is going well. I think this was after your, your, the month that we're talking about here. And you're like, yeah, closing looks awesome. Looks exciting. And I said, maybe self-set, maybe close, whatever. And then you like respond back. I don't know if it was the next day and you're like, yeah, I did it. And I closed the first one. And what was the price point on it that you closed?
$4,500.
So do you get a double commission on that?
Yeah. So 14%. So the 10% plus the 4% from the setting.
Yeah. That's an odd number. I'm not gonna do public math with that number. 14% on $4,500. You guys run the numbers. But anyways, yeah, I mean, now like you're 4 or 5 months into the space, you've got a foundation that really sets you up for anything you might need, especially setting. But like at this point, like closing is fair game for you, right? I also can appreciate how you're like student of the game. It's like, I'm just trying to get really good here, take advantage of the people that I'm working alongside to become better and better. And it doesn't seem like you're in some rush. Like some people will come in, you know, smack a $10K month, month 1, month 2 setting, like somehow right place, right time. And then just like push super hard into the next thing. I'm not saying that's wrong, but like sometimes relationships slip that way, you know? And like in this space, those are really important. So.
Yeah.
What's that like now? So like you've kind of checked the box. I know, uh, you have ambitions to do more, but like, how are you kind of working through that in your mind now? Like you're, I think you believe you're the person capable of doing more. So, so what's that like right now?
Yeah, I mean, I think the way I look at it, I mean, personal life is such a huge factor in these things. That is your driver and your why behind so much of it. So I can only really speak to my thoughts and this looks like something you can have as much of it or as little of it as you want. And there's gonna be different seasons. Now that I've built, you know, confidence and belief in a certain area, I definitely wanna push myself and I like the discomfort of moving around and learning. So I don't know, like with this offer, it's wonderful. And I will say the biggest thing that I have learned is I cannot be somewhere I'm not convicted. And I'm speaking to veterans, which is, it's funny cuz it's the complete opposite. I was working with all women in business for 10 years.
For sure.
And then you go into military men. All day. Those conversations and lingo are real different, right?
Yeah.
And so I think it's really showed me that life experience can go further. It's just adjacent. And I mean, I think I'm fortunate to, to be in a place where I'm, I am not in a rush and I love the learning for sure. So I don't really have a concrete answer, but that almost feels good because coming into this place where you have all these unrealistic expectations, unrealistic timelines, like That's the parallel that you're gonna be feeling emotionally and mentally as well. So.
It's funny cuz we have other interviews, all guys to this point, of people who also sell offers to veterans specifically. And they're like, it's the freaking best thing ever. And like, ironically, some of these guys are veterans, right?
Mm-hmm.
What is that like, that switch of talking to like Lash business owner to veterans? Like, do you think you're Good at it? I, that might sound like an obvious question, but like, how do you feel about that persona?
I mean, I love it now because I'm, I've more adapted. I feel more apt. The first 2 weeks was really overwhelming because you go from an alter universe to this. It's, and I think with veterans, you know, it's a wide range. It's not everyone's the same. And with this offer specifically, it's a lot of mental health. It's extremely tender. It's extremely vulnerable. There's a lot of tears shed from different veterans on the calls, closing calls. So I don't think I realized going that into this, and that, to be honest, was overwhelming for me initially. And I kind of questioned, like, is this really where God wants me? You know? And I think in a zoomed out way now that I see the, the impact and the lives that, you know, people are going through insane things and how much it changes. Now I'm like, I'm the right person for this. Because I can truly actually help. And, but I will say it's a, it's a rollercoaster. Yeah. You know?
No, I mean, I think anyone who's ever been around veterans or has them in their lives, like understands what you're describing right now. I wanted to ask you kind of more zooming out, like looking at things holistically, like from what I understand, like you didn't join the community cuz you were like, I need to make money. You were like, I might as well, make some money, right? Because you had, or you still have the business that is doing well. Did anything change once you hit $13.5 million from this new avenue? Like anything in your life? Did you do anything fun? Like, or is everything just the same?
I mean, I'm a pretty simple gal. I, in terms of like finding, no, like I'm not trying to achieve a crazy milestone. It's just all being invested. I mean, sure, there's more flexibility and I think on the longer horizon I will maybe enjoy things a little bit more, but could I have made bigger changes? Yeah. 'Cause you go, you're doubling your income and that's great. But I will say my time freedom choice is now invested in this, so I don't have the same time freedom by choice right now.
Sure. The cool thing is like, there's a way to get to the like top tier offers without like doing heavy time investment, but that's like, it's a lot harder to nail that. But what I've seen is like whether you get there through working a ton or working normal or less than normal, it's like once you get to that level, like you truly are kind of unlocking a new caliber of opportunity where, you know, like we recorded a few weeks ago and I, I will name drop this guy 'cause he's just whatever, his name's Jordan and he worked 7:00 AM to 1:00 PM doing $15K to $20K a month for the past 2 years. He's been with us since like 2022. But he did not start there. Like he had to kind of go through the wringer or whatever. But I think the compounding of like the resume that you now have, nobody can take it from you. The network, assuming we keep it in good standing and whatever, and like the flow of jobs that we have, obviously, like I'm in your corner. It just becomes harder to find yourself in less favorable situations than what the present day is. Right. And not saying that's an unfavorable situation, but 100%.
And I think that's the thing in this space is like luck is very much like you can create a lot of it, whether you pay for the mentorships, the communities, et cetera. I'm not a lucky person by nature, for sure.
No.
So I think I'm the first person to wanna reach out to people who are further ahead, for sure.
Sure. Yeah, that's a huge thing that I always try to like teach to people is like luck is, I mean, there's a very small element that is genuinely luck, but there's so many things within your control to that you could take advantage of to maximize every opportunity. So let's see here. I want to look back in time now and you are looking into this space again for the first time. You're like, I don't even know if I could do it. I think I can do it. I don't really know how. I see this community thing, whatever, whatever. Like take all that into consideration. And if there's like one or two things that you wish you could go back and tell yourself then that, you know, now, like what would those things be? It could be about how you started the first working, the first role, finding the first role, never ever joining this community. Like what, what things would you tell yourself?
Oh my gosh. So, I mean, the journey is so unique to you, but I guess if I had to pick something is you have to get through the ramp-up phase. And that was the hardest part for me. So knowing what I know now, it gets so much better. It gets so much, you get more apt, therefore it feels easier. I think in the beginning I was like, oh my gosh, is this what this is gonna look like? And now I'm grateful to be on the other side of it for sure, in a sense. But I wouldn't have changed too much because I followed the plan. And essentially, like when I invest, you know, you're investing in someone that you become a part of my plan now. So I'm gonna follow the strategy, the systems, and that's essentially what it looked like. So maybe I would've done things a little slower. 'Cause you can get on an offer and be like, what the heck? I just wasted 2 months because I didn't vet properly, et cetera. But that's unique to your journey. And that could have been the instance. But I think because of the network, you know, I got to maybe dodge that bullet the first 1 or 2 times.
I know you had to, you, you've mentioned like twice now, just in terms of making it through the ramp. And a lot of people, there's so many reasons why this might happen, but their first offer doesn't end up being the one for them, right? Sometimes it's something you literally cannot see until you're in the team. Working right, but I would say despite having to survive the ramp, things went pretty pretty according to plan here. Good timeline, like like what you did three and a half months into the first role, like ten k Canadian or thirteen k Canadian. It's like we would never set somebody up to expect that, you know. So it anything above that is like above and beyond, and and now we just have new a new floor almost for. What's possible. So kind of like going back just a little bit, and I don't have too much else to ask, but I'm curious because you've, you've crushed the setting role. Think about the job that you're doing the day-to-day, the boring part, and like what tactical piece of advice would you give to a setter or something that's like made you way more efficient or, you know, way more effective with show rates, close rate, like something kind of nerdy about the actual job? Like what's an unlock that you had that really helped you do better?
So, I mean, there was a minor unlock that I tried like maybe 4 weeks in by suggestion was to bring on a VA and have them do a lot of the tedious work. I'm still working, finessing my side of that with them, but that's something a lot of people were doing, et cetera. So definitely delegating what you can. And then, I mean, I just wanted to find the exact hours that worked the best and optimize, like lock down on what's actually working. So it was around hours.
Yeah.
And then, you know, time blocking your tasks essentially.
Yeah. Which brings me to this point. You've, you mentioned you work outside most of the time. She's much more fortunate than us in Texas right now. 70 and sunny out in Vancouver. I swear I heard like seagulls going by. Was that real?
Sorry. Yeah. Okay.
Um, it wasn't too bad, but like obviously a more ideal outside environment. Have you found like the cool thing about remote sales is you can kind of batch your day. Right. So I'm curious, you're probably doing that to some extent. Have you found certain parts of certain days to be better for dialing for certain things? Like, what does that look like for you?
Yeah, I think your client avatar comes into that for sure. And when they're available, but I mean, I can only speak to my offer. This is also my first offer. I don't have others to compare it to when I'm on the inside. So keeping that in mind, but with our offer, we're lucky there's a really high pickup rate. Because a lot of these veterans are retired or not employed.
Yeah.
So yeah. And then for the workers, it's the later evenings. So I definitely do time block, but there's flexibility around it for sure.
Yeah. You bring up a good point there too. I had made just like some content recently about selling something that you're convicted in. Like that's, there's like no shortage of opportunity to do that. And I mean, what you're selling, what you're helping people do as a result is like genuinely life-changing stuff. So hopefully there's some fulfillment found out of that. Let's see, I guess we can end it off here. I like to end on this question. We just had the whole interview. Someone's watching this, maybe they were where you were 5 months ago or so. Is there anything we haven't talked about that you think they might be interested in?
Not that we have, not really. I think that covers most of it, but if there's anything I could say, I mean, there's so much available in this space and it's just, you gotta get your feet wet and you can't do that by reading. You can't do that without getting in it. So this is the most, I think the epitome of like imperfect action drives results more than anything.
Yeah. One more last question. You mentioned like following the process, like don't think too hard about it. Follow the process, see it through. What do you think your entire experience in this industry would be so far if you had never joined our community and like tried to do it by yourself?
Oh geez. Maybe the complete opposite. To be honest, because this unlocked everything. It unlocked the doors that, like, I didn't know the first thing about how to vet an offer. I couldn't even read numbers. I didn't even know what an OTE was. Like, how do you, you can't read a language you don't understand, essentially.
Sure. Makes sense. It's possible. Like, I don't want to make people think it's not possible, but like when it comes down to the network, the expertise, like the opportunities, like it is genuinely a lot harder and Sure, I'm biased, but it is. We have a lot of people that try it and then almost convince themselves that like the entire industry altogether is just garbage and then they like never make it happen. Some of those people thankfully like find their way over to us and we like help 'em course correct. But yeah, it's tough out there, especially commission only, cuz you're not only not making money, it's like you're, you're losing money because you've stepped away from something probably that was making you money. So if you're in sales, time is money. You know? Mm-hmm. So yeah, anyways, if Miriam lets me, I will put however to contact her. I don't, I don't know if you want anything there. Uh, you can obviously reach her in our community, but some people throw their Instagram down below, whatever. So we'll do that. Miriam, I appreciate you taking the time. I don't have anything else for you.
For sure. I just thank you so much. Like truly, like, thank you, Dylan. This is priceless network community and you're just, you're just so dope. You're realistic. You're, Straight to it. And I— that's just what it's all about.
So I appreciate it. What do we have to do to get you to the annual event in Texas?
I love Texas. I used to fly in and out for work conferences and business in the lash industry. So not much because I like Texas a lot. Just depends on timing. But it would be really cool to connect in person with, you know, so many great connections already through this space. But face to face is different and it's fun.
Yeah. Yeah.
Awesome.
I mean, again, I have a different perspective, but like, they're, they're pretty good. We've, we've had a lot of people have a lot of good things happen just because we also open it up to the industry too. So really good connections. But anyways, thank you, Miriam. If you guys are watching and you want to connect with Miriam and myself and other people like this and have jobs, we can help you do it. Check out the description and we'll see you next time. Thank you.
Let's do it.
