A 21-year-old landed a $15,000-per-month sales job with almost no sales background by studying the company's training materials, making a targeted Loom video, and using his Mandarin fluency as a differentiator. Preparation and positioning beat experience.
You see this offer posted, you're like, dude, there is nobody better to sell this than me. And then you approach this company, like, what did you do to make sure that you were the guy? Well, they don't just post opportunities, FYI.
They have a bunch of information and courses and materials and actual sessions to help you position yourself so you have the highest chance of getting the role. So I saw that, I was like, holy shit, this is literally me. And I went through the course material again. I maxed out my resume. When I was applying to that, I didn't have a ton of sales experience, right? I was still decently new to the space. So I knew that if I wanted to maximize my of getting the offer, I had to position myself in a way that actually makes me look much more attractive than, let's say, if I didn't do that with my current experience. So I went through the materials, dialed in my resume, dialed in my Loom, and watched a bunch of training on how to do interviews. And I just came very prepared, and that's how I was able to land the role.
So it's safe to say there were probably applicants that had more like sales resume, but because you did the positioning and you speak Mandarin, you were able to secure a role that other people were maybe more qualified for sales-wise?
