How To Become Successful In Remote Closing - Alec Saenz

Alec Saenz went from economics student to high-ticket remote closer by investing in coaching programs and networking with mentors like Caden and Kishan. All right. Episode 33 of the Sales Bro Pod. It's been a while, but we're back. And this time we've got an awesome guest, Mr. Alec. Alec, thanks for coming on, man.
Of course. Thank you for having me.
Alec, for the people that have no idea who you are, what do you do?
Well, I am a high-ticket sales rep. Yeah, I am a high-ticket sales rep for currently for a crypto company and also an e-commerce coaching program as well with the guy on Instagram that a lot of people probably know.
Nice. Yeah, I'd imagine some of the people watching this definitely are familiar with you since you've kind of been in this space for a bit. When did you hop in? Like, when did you first start pursuing this stuff?
Yeah, so I first started— I actually first started actually a long time ago. I believe it was the summer of 2020-21. So I was a senior in college actually at Texas A&M, and I came across the whole money Twitter space learning about SMMA and all the different aspects of how to make money online, right? Um, I was in college and I was like, this kind of sucks. I don't want to go do a real estate job. I don't want to go— I don't want to go do the normal stuff because it just seemed like it sucked. And it seemed like the people online were making a lot more money. So I got involved. I tried a couple things before I started with high-ticket sales. I bought some courses on I think like social media marketing for just like small like HVAC companies or med spas or something like that, right?
Yeah.
Didn't really go through with it because I had no idea what I was doing. And so that kind of led me eventually into the high-ticket sales space. And I believe I got started, yeah, like summer 2021. It was probably May 2021 actually.
Yeah.
And I, yeah, so it was a while, right? Yeah.
One of the most.
Yeah, I did it for about, I went and found a guy and I kind of tried to help him build up his, it was like a Typeform and just like a Google Sheet and let's integrate it and let's close people. Wasn't as easy as I thought. And it just wasn't like, It wasn't a good offer. And so I pivoted to a different offer, which was actually a good offer. And I didn't know what the hell I was doing. And so I got in there and I started taking calls for them. And I think I closed like 3 people in like a month and a half or 2 months. And then I got let go because they were just like, not— I wasn't performing, you know?
Yeah.
And then so that's, that's kind of how I got in. I ended up taking a break. Whenever I was in college, I was like, well, I'm not, you know, I'm, I just, I took the foot off the gas pedal and I didn't, I was like, oh, maybe I, maybe I can't do this. You know, maybe I'm not, maybe I'm not cut out for this type of thing. And so last semester of college, I didn't, I didn't take a single sales call, didn't do anything. It was just kind of like, just kind of enjoying college, to be quite honest. You know, I was like, I'm just gonna have fun.
So yeah, I, I stopped.
I did too.
I was, I was gonna say, you said you went to A&M. What did you study again?
So I started out as— so whenever I went, whenever I applied to A&M, I— so I applied for the engineering school, which is a very competitive college to get into at A&M. I didn't get in, and so I went to Blinn in Brenham, which is like— or no, no, not Brenham, Bryan, which is like pretty much College Station. So I went to, to Blinn for one semester and then I reapplied to A&M and I got into the economics program.
Okay.
So that's what I did. Yeah.
Yeah. And then you, you mentioned like your original plan was to get into real estate.
I mean, I honestly, that's what people said to do and I was just like, oh, you can make money and real estate? And I was like, well, I want to make money. So sure, real estate sounds like a good idea.
It's not a bad option. All roads eventually lead there. You know, you go and do well in sales, you'll end up in real estate one way or another.
Yeah.
You know, but that's interesting. Yeah. So, and you're from, you're from Houston, but you were in Dallas for how long you'd been in Dallas?
Uh, I've been in Dallas ever since I graduated college. So since 2000, like January 2022.
Nice.
So yeah.
Okay. Yeah, we used to have the, the Texan connection, but now you're like, you're in Florida. So yeah, Florida's cool. Runner-up, runner-up state, I guess.
For sure. I, I agree. Texas is still, I feel like I'm very proud to say I'm from Texas. You know, it's like, Yeah, I've got like a Texas A&M jacket that I wear and I'm like, I hope people notice that I'm from Texas because I love Texas.
Oh yeah, dude. Yeah, I'm sure there's a, there's a lot of Texans in Florida too and vice versa, but definitely Cowboys fans, dude. You go, you go anywhere, there's Cowboys fans.
For sure. For sure. Always America's team. I'm not a Cowboys fan, so.
Don't tell me you're a Texans fan, bro.
I, I'm more of a Texans fan than any NFL team. I don't really watch the NFL, to be honest. I'm, I'm more of a college football type of dude. So yeah, college football, Texas A&M, but NFL, it's like, it's good to see the Texans do well. You see, whenever I grew up, it was always fun because there was a lot of Cowboys fans and they're like, this is the year. This is the year.
Every year. Every year.
And so it was always fun to give them a hard time whenever it wasn't, wasn't the year, which is quite often. So.
Yeah, dude, it's, it's funny. I'm like, I'm, I guess I'm a Cowboys fan just by default, but like, dude, anywhere in Texas besides Houston, like by default, it's, it's a bunch of Cowboys fans. But anyways, man, how did you, so like, When you went to school and you, you originally applied to engineering, that's what like I almost, I almost went to school for. And then I was like, seems intense. I was like, I don't know if I'm in love with it. And then I went for construction science, but like, were you, I guess when you were going for engineering or you went for economics, like were you kind of just doing it to like check a box or were you at the time you were like, this is the best? option for me in life right now is to just go to college and knock this out.
For sure. I mean, it was like, I think it was, I, so I, I grew up, you know, in like a middle, middle-class family. My, both my parents actually went to A&M. They met at A&M. So my grandfather went to A&M. Like I grew up, whenever I was a kid, I lived like an hour away from College Station. Northwest Houston, Tomball. Um, shout out to Jimmy Butler. Um, but that's— so I, I grew up literally going— like, my grandparents had season tickets every year, so I grew up going to College Station pretty much every weekend that there was a home football game.
Yeah.
And so whenever I was in high school, I was like, oh yeah, I'm gonna go to A&M. Like, that's what I want to do, right? And at that point, that's just kind of— that's like what you do, you know? Like Right. Like, you, you go to, you do good in school and you go get a degree. And like, that's, that's where my mindset was at. And I thought that's how you would like make it in life.
You know what I mean?
And so that's just, that's what, that's what I was like, I'm going to do that. I, I, that was kind of just what I, I guess that was what I wanted to do as well. And so, um, yeah. Yeah, that was, yeah, it was just kind of like, that was what, if I would've done anything different, then it would've been like, what's wrong with you? You know what I mean?
Yeah. That's how it was for me too, kind of. It's just like, it was the next thing to do. Like I was a pretty good student. Uh, I didn't like love being a student, but like I, I had good grades and like, it's like, okay, this, yeah, it's like, I'm a senior, I'm gonna apply for college. Like, I only applied for one col— like I applied to the college that I went to cuz I knew automatic admission. I didn't really have aspirations to go to like A&M or UT or anything. Um, just 'cause I had like friends, family, I had a job. I was just like, why would I leave? You know?
Yeah.
Um, but yeah, I didn't really, dude, I started in architecture and if you know anything about that, it's kind of a drag. And then I was like, these guys don't make any money. But it's funny then because I graduated with construction science degree and then I had the same revelation of like, these guys don't make any money. And then went into sales and then just like funneled down into high-ticket sales. And now, I mean, that's how you and I met back in like, what, it was 2022, but like, do you remember about the time where, when you and I met?
I think I met you in January of this year, actually 2023, I think. Okay. It might've been actually, you know what, it might've been December '22. So yeah, almost like very close to a year now.
So yeah. Damn, time flies, man.
I know, it's crazy because I remember the first time you and I ever talked whenever I joined the community and you're just kind of, it does not feel like long ago.
Yeah. Well, it kind of does, dude, because when, when you first joined, like, This, the position that you're in now is like a lot different. Like you moved across country, got this nice apartment, like you're crushing it. But I remember back then it's like you had been on offers and stuff and you were still in that, like, just like everybody else who gets into it for the most part, it's like still like trying to find that good offer and like get traction. And once you get it, which we'll talk about in a second, like It, it's sweet, you know, it's pretty nice. So, but going back to that, let's say it was December or January. You said your senior year of college or senior semester, I'm sorry, your last semester, you kind of just focused on school. You're like, I'm gonna not do this. How long before December or January did you start like getting back into the closing game again?
Yeah, I got back into the closing game January of 2022. So I graduated in 2021, December, and then January 2022, I was kind of like, I moved back in with my parents and I was in Dallas and I was like, okay, like, I probably need to start like making money and figuring out what I'm going to do.
Right.
And so I was like, I was, I was a part of some sales programs at that point. And like, I had invested in, yeah, one sales program. It was Closer Cartel. I invested in that. And so I kind of started like showing up to those live sessions and just kind of taking in. I was like, okay, I'm gonna like give this a shot again and I'm gonna go for it.
Mm-hmm.
And, um, I'm super lucky too, 'cause like my parents are super cool and they're just My parents are like, if they're like, you could live here until you're 35 or 40 if you want to. Like, they're just, they're like cool and they're just so, they're cool and very like supportive. And so I'm lucky that I had kind of like the freedom and the flexibility to like fail and try things out. Um, so I'm super grateful to them and just like being in that spot to where I could not make money in high-ticket sales for like, you know, the first 2, 3 4 months, right? And so I started in January 2022. I got on an offer, was not a good offer, but yeah, so that's, I got started again January 2022, just closing, but it was not for a good offer, you know, but I was like, I was in an active role per se.
Yeah. I'm curious, like, Your parents can be supportive but still not really believe in what you're doing. Did they believe that you were doing something worthwhile?
I think they did. I, yeah, I think they did. I've, my parents have always kind of like believed in me, if that makes sense. I don't know.
Like, it's good.
Very, yeah, very lucky to, very lucky to have that. You know, they're very, they're very just like cool people. You know, like obviously they're my parents and I love them and they're good. They're really good parents, but also they're just like cool people. And so they were never, they might've been a little bit skeptical, I would say, like in terms of, I don't know how this works, but we trust you and we think, you know, you're a smart kid and we believe in you. So whatever you wanna go try, you know, we'll— Supports you in trying that. So.
That's good. Was it for you like, okay, so you graduated, for you, was it like, okay, I'm going to give myself 1 year to try and figure this out, and if I don't, then I will go get a job? Or did you have any kind of ultimatum for yourself there?
I think, I don't, that's a good question. I always kind of knew it was gonna work out. I always, like, I always believed that I would, it would work out. I don't know why, but I think just because I, like, I wasn't trying it on my own, if that makes sense. Like I had invested into, I don't even, like, if I'm, if I'm going back, I'd invested into like the training programs and like the right. working, like the people that were ahead of me, I was like, I'm more than happy to pay you so I can kind of learn your ways and just make those connections and things of that sort. And so honestly, I was just like in a spot where I was, I was like predetermined to make it work out and I was willing to invest like whatever I needed in order to get into those right circles. 'Cause I was like bought in on the vision of like high ticket sales, like—
Mm-hmm.
You like, you start it and you're like, oh shit, this is not a good offer. You know, you started and you kind of go through the suck, but then you see that, oh wait, there is light on the other end of the tunnel. And so I was like, I believe in the vision. Like, I'm just gonna do whatever, whatever needs to happen to get there as quickly as possible. And I'm willing to invest my money into the right people that are gonna help me get there. What about you?
I like, I knew, 'cause I had been in roofing sales before. And so I like, I was setting company records. Like I knew I could sell. And then I just, I started to see people doing the high-ticket sales thing. And I was like, by process of elimination, the only thing, the only difference between myself and those having success here is the vehicle in which they're applying You know, which they're like working at, right? It's like, I know I have the skill. And so like, I landed a trial with a YouTube coaching company. It was a 1-week trial and I quit my job. And like, it was a good, like, it was a good paying job straight outta school. And I was like, I'm gonna make this work. And if it doesn't work with this company, I'm gonna make it work with another one. And so I kind of just knew like, it's possible and I'd only achieve it if I kept Going at it. And it's pretty similar to yourself, it sounds.
Yeah.
But I was gonna ask you too, 'cause like now you've invested a lot of money in coaching. I've invested a lot of money in coaching. Clearly, like you and I both believe that it's very useful to get proximity to the right people and information. When you invested your first like large sum of money into coaching, What was that like for you? Like, was it a no-brainer or were you like, holy shit, I've never spent $2,000, like whatever it was, I've never spent this kind of money. Like, why did it make sense for you to like really invest into yourself in that capacity?
Yeah, that's a good question. I think the first ever coaching that I invested into, I remember talking to one of my friends about it because I had a friend in college and we were both kind of, you know, like we— I think we were both on money Twitter at that point, you know, following some of those guys that make money in different ways and things of that sort. And we were kind of just talking about that whole idea And I remember considering doing it. Um, and I think, man, I, I wrote, I wrote things down. I think I have a journal somewhere where I wrote down kind of just my thought process of it. And it'd be interesting to go back and kind of look at that. But I remember just thinking like, I don't want to be, you know, I don't want to go do the common thing, right? I don't wanna go to the 9 to 5 and just like take the common path. And so I have to do something that, you know, would like, I wanted uncommon results per se. So I had to do something that was like uncommon of the normal person, call it. And so I was just like, kind of bought in on that. And I was like, you know what? Like, Yeah. I'm gonna make it work. Like, you know, I was, it was an interesting, interesting time and headspace. 'Cause it's, it's your first time ever doing something like that and it's kind of, yeah, kind of scary. It's kind of scary per se, but yeah.
Yeah. And in hindsight, dude, I think you're in the same position as me. It's like coaching is not the sole reason, but it's a really large part of why I'm like able to do what I am today, just through what you learn and the people you meet. Like you don't always get. an immediate like 30-day ROI, but like what happens as a result, like 3 months, 6 months, 12 months later, it could be like something completely different than what you originally bought the program for. Like it could be like someone you met in there and now they're spinning up a business and they need a salesperson or they need, you know, someone to do like marketing and sales. They're like, you never know what's gonna happen because then you're also, dude, like when you buy, and let's say you buy something that's $2,500, like not a crazy price point, but still enough skin in the game. It's like you have to realize that everybody else in there is also as serious as you, if not more, because they've invested that into themselves. So like, just shit happens in these programs because these people are like putting their money where their mouth is, you know?
Yeah.
So did you, do you have that? I mean, I kind of just assumed, but do you have that same feeling? It's like coaching has kind of allowed you to get a lot further than you would have in the time that you've done it.
Yeah, 100%. 100%. I think you hit the nail on the head too, is like with, you know, there's, there's good coaching programs and there's bad coaching programs, of course. But even if it's like a bad coaching program, you know, which I'm not even, I don't know that I've been, I haven't been part of really any bad coaching programs, I would say. But even like—
That's good.
I mean, I, I guess technically I, I have like— well, I don't even look at it as like a bad coaching.
Exactly.
It's like I'm— I spent like $5K for like a one-on-one mentorship, you know, with the guy from Twitter that was doing high-ticket sales at the time. And it's probably like, it's no one that's still doing high-ticket sales right now. So it's like You know, it just, I don't even, I don't even look at it as like, man, you know, I wasted my money. I just look at it as like, I'm so glad I did that because if I didn't do that, then I would, I would never be in the spot where I am today. You know? And so, like you said, you, you hit the nail on the head. Like, no matter, like, you know, no matter what you do, like no matter the coaching program you invest in, like even if it, even if it's a bust, you know, even if you don't get the result you're quite looking for. Yeah.
Yeah.
That experience is like, maybe you meet people, like maybe you meet someone that you wouldn't have ever met before, you know, like that's, I've met, you know, I like Tampa, I'm in Tampa and Kishan lives here and, you know, Philip lives here as well. And, uh, you know, shout out to Devin too, but I like, I met all these guys online through a coaching program. And now I'm living in the same city as them because we all, you know, became friends in real life. And so it's like you said, you surround yourself with people that are also investing in themselves.
Yeah.
Just like share the same goals, ideologies, and beliefs. And it's just like good things are going to happen.
Yeah, dude, that's the biggest thing. Like when people come to me and they ask like what levers they should pull if they want to get into in high-ticket sales, like you just need to know the right people. Like sure, you can go do some crazy sales training and learn how to handle the spouse objection 10 times over. You should know how to do that. But there comes a point where it's like, you know, let's say you and 5 other people get into a program and it sucks, but you stay in touch with those 5 other people and they're, they've already invested, so they're gonna figure it out. And it's just like, You know, instead of you spending 5x the time trying all these different things, you just stay connected to people who are all trying their own things and communicating. And like, naturally, if you're in that pool of people, like, you know, rising tide, what's the saying? It raises all ships or something like that. You know that saying?
I know the saying. I don't know exactly what it is.
Yeah, yeah.
Something like that.
But like, by default, dude, if you're in that group and everybody else starts winning, like, you will start winning if you're contributing and And holding your own. So that's, that's been big, dude. 'Cause like even me as an individual sales rep or like, you know, I'll help companies with like consulting or management. Like the last, like, dude, 4 or 5 inter— like, yeah, interactions I've had, I guess like paid interactions. They're like straight network. Like I did not have to go through traditional interview process. Or anything like that. So with, with yours that you're on now, did you have to, 'cause you're on the 2, did you have to go through like traditional funnel like everyone else or did you kind of have like a layup there? Yeah.
So the one, so the one offer that I'm on right now, the main offer that I've been on for the past, really like the offer that kind of just like changed, changed my life, we'll say. I have to give a big shout out to Caden 'cause You know, Caden's me, and he's actually the one that you know got me connected with the business owner that I'm working with now. And I wouldn't have that offer, that opportunity, if I hadn't invested in Caden's mentorship and you know just being able to learn from him. So big shout out to him. But that one I went through a call it like a formal interview. I would say it was just like a you know a call, and the guy was like the guy I work for love him so much. He's the coolest guy ever. Like One of the best business owner, one of the best business owners I've ever worked for. So that one, it was just like a, it's kind of like a vibe check.
Yeah, that makes sense.
And we, you know, we had a good vibe. So I got that one. And then the e-com one that I'm on now, that one, I have to give a shout out to Kishan because Kishan, that was just like, Kishan was just like, hey, do you want to help me close for this? And I was like, sure. So That's, that's how I got connected with that one. So really, it's just like, like you said, knowing the right people. Like, yeah, that's, that is all it is, especially with the sales stuff, because you're doing the same job no matter what the— like, you're doing the same job every single call for the most part, same objective, right?
Yeah.
If you work with someone that's very good at what they do, then it's going to be a lot easier to do your job. If you work with someone that is not good at what they do, it's going to be very hard to do your job. And so The people that are good mesh with the people that are good. And if you know those folks, then yeah.
I would also say like, from my experience getting into like coaching and stuff, the, it quite literally is what you make it, right? Because let's just say you got into Caden's thing and you never sent a message, you never joined live calls, you never did anything. Like you wouldn't have been connected with the opportunity, right? So I'm assuming You probably went in there and you were like involved. And that is ultimately why, like someone comes to Caden, I need a sales rep. Oh, let me think who I know. Alec, he, he, you know, shows up, he's decent. He's, you know, he could do it. Let me make an introduction. Like you have to make the most of the relationships or else like, I don't know, you're, you're probably not gonna get the full result, you know?
For sure. Yeah, it's like Bill, like, yeah, that Bill Walsh said something one time and he's like, so what, you invested your money to be a part of this group? Like, so what? Like, if you don't show up, you're not going to get anything out of this. So like, you need to show up, you need to interact, you need to engage. And like, you know, if you do that, then, you know, things are gonna like come to you, right? Yeah.
So Yeah.
You gotta interact, you gotta engage, you gotta show up and just show the person that you care. You know what I mean? Show everyone that you care.
Yeah. What are some of the, like, 'cause you started in this in 2021, picked it back up 2022. What were some of the beliefs that you had around high-ticket sales and what it took to be successful that were not true Now that you are like doing what a lot of people are looking to do?
Good question. I would say whenever I first started, I thought it was gonna just be easy. Like I was bought in on the idea of like being able to jump on a Zoom call and just, you know, talk to someone for 30 minutes on the beach and, you know, all that, all that good stuff. I thought it was gonna be just like, I thought it was going to be easy, right? And it's not that it's hard, but it's just not like, it's not as easy as I thought it would be per se. But with that being said, you kind of like, you get in there and you fail and then you're like, okay, I suck, but I think I can do it if I get better.
Yeah.
You know? And so, yeah, I would say like number one, it's not necessarily going to be easy, but it's going to be worth it. You know, like that's, I think that's probably the biggest thing looking back on my journey is like all the like the sucky times and just like barely making any money and not doing that well. It's like, Where I'm at now is like, you can look back and you're like, that was definitely worth it, you know, to kind of like go through that suck because now it's like, oh shit, you know, I can, like, I feel very, I don't want to say comfortable, but like, I know I'll be fine. Like, I, if for some reason the offers I'm working with like get shut down tomorrow, it's like, I know I can do this job, so I just need to go find someone to do it for and it's going to be easy. Yeah. Not easy, but just like I know I'm in a good spot, if that makes sense. So I would say really the number one belief that I had coming into this was that it was just going to be easy, cakewalk, take calls from a laptop on the beach. It's not that, you know, it's not. Yeah.
What, um, that's, that's— what's that? Do you have any beliefs that you kind of had coming into this where you're like, ah, Yeah, it's like, I also think, I didn't think per se like it was going to be easy. I think I thought it was gonna be easier than it was. I, for some reason coming into this though, like coming back into this online world, 'cause I tried the agency and the dropshipping and all that, like I was on money Twitter in like 2019. I had like a whole different account.
Yeah.
And I just shut it down because I was like in school and I was working full-time. It was too much. And I knew that this time around, one big, big, big piece of the puzzle was gonna be like the network. And so I went hard, dude. I went hard on branding myself on Twitter because I was like, well, sure, I can do outreach to people, but I could also be the one that people go to. Like, I could create like inbound leads basically. And I did that. So I don't, I mean, that was like the first thing, dude. It was like, it wasn't like, let me buy into a program. It was like, let me brand myself. And I spent money on programs, definitely. But I would say that. And then really, dude, I didn't realize that there were so many bad offers.
Yeah.
Like, I really thought it came down to like how good you were at sales. Right. And like in hindsight, that is important, but the real skill is finding the good offers.
Yeah.
Because good offers sell themselves. Like you could put an idiot in Iman Gadzhi's offer and he would sell the shit out of it, you know? So did you have that same belief too? It was like, oh, I'm literally the reason why I'm not doing well is 'cause I'm not good at sales.
Yeah, 100%. That's— I mean, yeah, absolutely. That's— I thought getting better was the key to making more money, and it is important to get better, of course.
Yeah.
But if you're in a bad— if you're— it's not about, you know, it's like the saying, it's not about the boat. It's not a, you know, it's not the— if you're driving and if old beat-down car, you're driving in a nice new G-Wagon, like the G-Wagon's gonna go faster, you know what I mean?
Yeah, same driver.
Yep. Yeah, yeah, that's a good point with offers. Like, there are a lot of bad offers out there, and it's, it's also cool to— like, it's also very cool to be in a bad offer and then get onto a good offer and be like, Oh, you know, like this is this is what we need. You know, this is like this like it's just you know you see it's good experience like to want to build a business too because you look at Hormozy and Hormo like just his books, $100 million offers. Like just make a good offer. You know what I mean? And so you can kind of look at that and you're like well I know what makes a good offer now. And I know what makes a bad offer and this is how we make a good offer. And so, yeah, it's like, I don't, you know, I don't want to be a closer forever. Like, you know, I don't, like, I want to do more Hormozi-style stuff. Like, all right, let's put the right pieces in the right spot and then let's, let's make money, you know?
Yeah. What do you, let's say you You had mentioned the hypothetical of like, if I was, if both my offers were shut down overnight, like I wouldn't sweat. I mean, it would suck, but you wouldn't be like, oh, I'm so over, like it's so over, right? You'd be like, oh, I'm just gonna message a few people. I know you'd probably find something quick, but let's say that happened and then you have to go and find a new offer. What are like the 3 top green flags that you would be looking for in a new offer now that you've seen both like Yeah, that's a good question.
I think number one is just gonna be like, okay, what are you guys making? I think green flags. So it's interesting, like if I were looking at it from the perspective of just being a sales rep, Then I would want to know like, okay, well, what are they making per month? How did like where do they get their like what number one what are they making per month? How many closers do they have? You know because if they're making six hundred k a month but they have fifty closers, it's like whoa, you know that's no no no that's not good. You know but if they're making six hundred k a month and they have three closers, it's like okay that's pretty damn good. You know what I mean? So I would look like. Number one, are they making money? Number 2, how many closers do they have right now? And then probably number 3, like, is the person that— I would say, is the offer good? Like, is it a good offer?
Yeah.
Like, what type of offer is it? Is it a good offer? Those are probably the 3 things that I would say I would be looking for, just like, because those are the 3 important things. Because if it's— if they have those things in place, then it's like you can just plug yourself in. You're gonna have an adaptation period for a week. All right, I need to figure out how I'm gonna pitch this and yada yada. But if they make money, they have good marketing in place, and they have a couple— like, it'll be easy to get in there and start performing.
Yeah. I'm curious, like as you were kind of progressing through your journey over the last, let's say 2 years when you like got back into the space, you obviously went and invested in multiple pro— I say obviously, like I know that 'cause I know you, but like you went and invested into multiple programs as time went on. And I take it it's because like you're like, I can learn something from each of these people. When did you, or how did you know, like, okay, now it's time for me to go into a better offer, or now it's time for me to invest into myself so I can be better? And then as you kind of just like went up the totem pole, let's call it, like, how did you make that differentiation there?
Yeah, good question. I think I guess if I just reverse engineer it, because I'm like, I'm trying to go back and think about the first time I ever did it. If I just reverse engineer it, you know, the reason I invested into, you know, like, I guess the last coaching program I invested into was, you know, Bill Walsh's program. And the reason why I did that was because I was on a new offer at the time, and I was kind of like more— was I kind of like helping them build out the offer a little bit? And there's like financial incentive for me to, you know, do well. And so I was like, okay, I need to get better at sales. I need to like take advantage of this. Like the ROI is going to be 100% there. You know, I'm getting better. There's good financial incentive with the offer. Like it was a no-brainer because I was like, okay, I want to get, you know, take it to the next level type of thing, right?
Yeah.
That was why I did that with Bill Walsh's program because I was like, okay, I want to, you know, step it up and, you know, just learn different ways and things of that sort, you know. Um, that was for that. And then I think the one before that, I invested into Caden and Trey's program. Um, big shout out to them. And I think that was because, again, just those were 2 dudes that they'd been in the game much longer than I had. And they were just, they're just cool guys. And I was like, I want to learn from them. I want to, you know, be coached by them, be a part of their circle, you know, just like, yeah, that's, I would say that's why I invested with those guys. And then before that, like I invested in Closer Cartel, way back in 2021, back in the early days. I think it was 2021. Yeah. Just because I didn't know, like I didn't have a community, you know, I didn't have other people that were—
Yeah.
That I knew that were doing high-ticket sales at that point. And I was like, I wanna do this, but I don't know anyone else that's, you know, I'm not in like a community of any other people that are doing it. So that's, those are the 3 main coaching programs I invested in and that's kind of, You know, it's just at different points in, in time, if that makes sense.
Yeah.
In, in life, I guess.
Yeah. That's, that's interesting cuz I know you and I both know a lot of people who've gotten into a lot of programs and it's like, I feel like some people just do it cuz they're like, my friends are over here, so I'm gonna go do it. And then others are like, oh, I want this very particular thing at this point in time because I think it's gonna help me do X. Right. So I was just curious your take on that. I wanted to touch on this. Like earlier we mentioned you were in Dallas, you moved over to Tampa. There's a lot of people doing the same thing in Tampa. If you can't see, he's in a pretty sweet apartment with a nice view in the back. What is the, what's like the overall lifestyle like being a high-ticket closer? How's it been for you?
Good question. I would say overall lifestyle, it's very nice in terms of just having the freedom and the flexibility to kind of do things. You know, I don't like not having to go to an office or anything like that is all, it's good, it's fun. Being able to kind of make your own schedule as well is also a blessing.
Yeah.
You know, like it's, I do like the lifestyle a lot. You know, it's just, it's, you can kind of just do whatever you want in a sense, of course. Right. And I'm very lucky that the offers I work with right now, we're just kind of like, hey, run and gun, open up your calendar when you want, take calls. It's just like run and gun, which I'm very lucky and very thankful for as well, because I know some offers, they're very like, you know, like militant and you got to have the sales meeting every Monday and Tuesday, Wednesday. Like, luckily I'm not on that. And so I live a very good lifestyle compared, like, as far as like working, right? So I'm very lucky to be in that spot. Typical days, like I'll wake up, go for a walk. I'll wake up, go for a walk, you know, just to kind of get my mind clear. Go and stop at a coffee shop, you know, get an espresso, and then, you know, come back, shower up, get ready for calls. And then typically it's calls from like 10 AM to, you know, since I've been in Tampa, I've been taking more calls just because I, you know, the people that I'm here with, everyone's like grinding. Everyone's like, I want to make money, you know, I want to make a gazillion. So it's just like, All right, let's rip calls, you know? And so I'll take calls from 10 AM until— I've been doing like my last calls like 8 PM, but I think I'm gonna dial it back a little bit just 'cause you kind of get to a point where you're just like, I'm not looking forward to this anymore.
Yeah. I mean, there's, there's seasons.
There's seasons.
Yeah.
So there's a fine balance to it, but, and it's not calls from 10 AM until 8 PM every day, of course. Like, it's not that crazy. But it's, you know, there's no-shows and reschedules and cancellations and things of that sort. So.
Yeah. Yeah. I mean, when you, when you find a good opportunity, man, like, you know, as well as anybody else, things can, they can come about very quickly and then they can disappear very quickly. Right. So like you wanna squeeze the most out of what you can. I think that's cool that you're on one of those offers. That's like pretty laid back and you're still making like the good money that you want. I think a lot of the offers that are like good opportunities, they're a little bit more structured a lot of times.
Yeah.
It sounds like you are, 'cause like, dude, we're, you know, we're contracted sales reps by definition. You should have the freedom and flexibility to do it how you want and when you want, so long as like you're meeting KPIs and quota and all that. But that's good. And I know, like, I'm just curious to get your take on this. Like, we've hung out a few times. We had, we had some, some moments at Buford's and, and, you know, in Austin, some good times. What's your take on the whole, like, oh, you know, I'm gonna, I'm gonna grind so hard and I'm, you know, monk mode. I'm not gonna go out or like talk to girls or I'm not gonna do any of that. Like, how do you, how do you balance like having fun and then like Putting your head down and getting the work done.
Yeah, I, I'm not like, I don't know, I would say I'm not a believer in all that monk mode stuff. And the reason, and I've, I have been in the past, like I was, there was a time when I was doing the cold showers and the, the ice baths, like just, you know, like, I don't know, you, you think that stuff is like gonna move the needle, if that makes sense. And like, I don't know, it's just like a, mental masturbation in a sense. And I don't, I don't believe in— at this point in time, I'm not a believer in like the monk mode stuff and whatnot. And the reason why is because the example that I look at all the time is I just use like athletics as an example in terms of like, you know, DK Metcalf, right?
Yeah.
He eats candy, drinks coffee, And like, just doesn't— like, he does not take care of himself in any way, shape, or form, right? And he's a freak athlete. And so the reason I bring that up is just because there's been times where I try to like over-optimize and it's just like diminishing returns, you know? And like, I'm gonna lock myself in and not talk to girls and just not have fun. But I think, like, I don't know, I think there's probably a time and point for that. And I guess if you're trying to do very— if you're trying to be the next Tom Brady, yeah, you know, it's probably like, okay, you need to take a little bit of a different approach, per se, right?
Mm-hmm.
Um, I mean, so I don't, I don't know, I don't really believe in all that The grind super hard stuff, because you look at people that don't work nearly as hard— not that they don't work as hard, but they don't, you know, they're not trading today for a better future, if that makes sense. It's like, I'm gonna sacrifice the now so I can have a better future.
Yeah.
I don't think it's— I don't think it's— I don't think it's necessary per se, you know. I think it's like, I guess it just depends on what you're trying to accomplish and what you're trying to do. Yeah, and I think there's been times where I'm like, I think it's just like mental masturbation, at least in my experience. Yeah, it's like I feel good, you know, I feel good, you know, but it's like, I don't know, I think it just depends, I guess, on the goals, right? If you want to be the next Tom Brady, next Michael Jordan, you know, I know Iman Ghazi's done a lot of like biohacking and health stuff and Obviously he does very well, right? Um, I don't know. I used to think that I wanted that, but as I've gotten older, I'm like, I like watching football. I like watching college football on Saturdays. You know, I like, like woofing at Chick-fil-A, you know, like, I don't know.
You like seed oils?
Like seed oils. So it's, I don't know. I think, I think there's a fine balance to everything and I think you don't have to, like, I, I think there's a fine balance to everything and I think you can have certain monk mode protocols, you know, like I do think that there's things you need to take seriously.
Yeah. Yes.
But I also think there's a balance to it.
It's like a weird form of procrastination.
For sure. It's like, it is.
You got the 3-hour morning routine. Like just literally go to your desk and work. Like you'll get more done.
But yep, 100%.
We, we don't have too much time here. I wanted you to kind of like speed round, dude. All right. So you have actually, you're, well, let's just for the sake of the example, talk about your friend Zach, who is now in this space because of you. 'Cause he was like, Alec is crushing it. I wanna be like Alec. When he came into this space, and let's just say like another one of your friends is coming into this space, what are like 2 or 3 things that you told him or you would tell someone else that they need to focus on to actually get good results fast?
I would say invest in the right— like to get good fast or to get results fast?
I would say results fast.
I would say to get results fast, just Invest, like, invest to be around the people. Invest the money to be around the right people. That's what I would say first and foremost is like, pay the people that are in close proximity to the good offers per se. That's, that would be my number one thing. Mm-hmm. Yeah.
And then, and then show up. Yeah. All right, dude. Well, I got a sales call I gotta jump onto in true sales bro fashion. It's good catching up even though we were hanging out like 2 weeks ago. Yeah, you market delicious meal. That was so good. I'm gonna link, I guess, where would you like to send people? Twitter, Instagram, if they wanna connect to you and ask you some questions and pick your brain, quote unquote.
Yeah, I would say I mean, I think either Twitter or Instagram. I think someone tried to DM me one time on Twitter and they said my DMs were turned off, so I might need to go check that out. But probably like Instagram, like Instagram is definitely gonna be the best spot to get my attention.
Cool.
Um, 'cause I, I use Twitter, but I use Instagram more. Probably a bad thing, but yeah.
Uh, it is what it is, but I'll link both of those below. Um, and I appreciate you coming on, man. I'm excited to see, I didn't even get to ask you like what's kind of next in the, In the journey, but maybe I'll ask you outside of this. Um, but yeah, good episode. Short, short and sweet. Pretty value packed, I think, especially for guys like just getting started or early in the journey. Like it's gonna be very insightful. So I appreciate you coming on, man.
Yeah, no, thank you for having me, dude. It was, yeah, it was good to be on here. Good to catch up and, uh, appreciate you having me on.
Of course, dude.
All right. Go close. Go close to them.
All right. Later. All right.
See you, dude.
