POV: You got a remote sales job and moved to Austin with the boys

Dylan Vergara and friends document their remote sales life in Austin, from gym sessions to Rockstar Bagels. He's launching Because of Sales, a newsletter featuring stories from salespeople, and breaks down which niches pay best: high-ticket, tech, medical devices, and life insurance.

Look at your crazy ass. What's up, you guys? This is Bug. If you haven't met Bug, I don't really post about her too much, but OG's no Bug. It's another retirement tour video. We're out here, Tony and I, painting flower pots. Join TSSC, little logo. And ordering books. That's how you know we're actually retired right now. I'll open this up. It's a big one, guys. I didn't, I didn't know it was gonna be— Bug just decided to make a mess. Yeah, Bug just took her food bowl onto the couch and we gotta clean that out. Um, but yeah, it's a, it's a thick one, honestly, dude. All right, this is kind of crazy. I actually didn't know that this is what it was, but I'm gonna try to read this anyways. Theory of Games and Economic Behavior. But I saw the, the COVID and someone that I really like to Watch what they tweet. I like to tune into what they post, and I think they're interesting. They posted this and I was like, it's probably worth it and get into reading a little bit more. But game theory— you guys all play video games. I play video games sometimes, not as much anymore. But dude, everything in life is literally game theory. Like, if you can figure out the way to give yourself the highest odds to get the outcome that you're wanting, whether it's in the gym, in business, in your dating life, do it. And make a game of it and level up your skill, level up your character. That's how I've gotten to retire at 26. I'm just kidding. I'm not not even retired. But learning how to like gamify stuff at an early age and and have fun doing it has really helped me get where I want to be. I got a long flight ahead of me, so I'm gonna try to read this.
What else?
Where are you going?
We're going overseas, going to Japan with some of the boys, and it's gonna be fun. Actually, really big names going. It's like this mastermind ski in ski out. We're going to Niseko.
We're going to Tokyo.
So I'm.
Getting ready for that trip now. I got connected to the author of these, Garrett Gunderson. He is really successful guy in the financial services space, but he just came in to talk to the community guys. So if you're in 1099 sales or you want to be, you got to be smart with your money or else you're gonna be like everyone else and not make a lot, not save a lot. Speaking of the community, so that's in there for the community guys. But the latest here, you know I got to show you guys what's going on in here. Little school action. So. Michael, $3.4K commissions in 48 hours. See here, Kevin yesterday got his first check, paid for the community in his first closing check. Sam, great day, $20K cash collected. Solid day for— or solid for a day chilling at home. That's a $2,000 commission day, 10%. So yeah, these guys are winning, man. It's real. By the way, new jobs, 18 hours ago, 18 hours ago, 1 day, 1 day, 2 days, 3 days, 3 days, 3 days, 4 days.
We're cooking.
The frequency, man, it's there. So yeah, join the community. Howdy, partner.
How we doing?
So, uh, what's up with, uh, your plane ticket, buddy? Bad news. I bought plane ticket for the right day, the wrong month, and it was non-refundable. It was non-refundable, but somehow I got a refund on it. Partial. I got a flight credit.
So what's—
I booked a new one.
Okay.
Yeah, I'm, I'm kind of glad cuz I bought an economy ticket. And that was kind of brutal, so I bought a nicer ticket this time around with points. Nice. So there we go. See how it goes.
Nice deal with points.
Technically free. Technically.
So yeah, passive income.
I'm excited for my first in-flight dining experience. Apparently there's two of them. There's gonna be like we're going to Korea. I'm flying into Korea. There's like a North Korean North. But there's gonna be like two meals. One of them is like Korean and one is American or whatever. I heard they're rude at the the Seoul airport.
Interesting.
That's what Noah with Friedman told me. Yeah. Listen to this: Austin to Atlanta, two and a half hours the wrong direction. Atlanta to Seoul, so sixteen hours straight. Atlanta over Japan where I'm going to Seoul, and then I don't know how long it is from Seoul to Japan, but it's brutal, bro. It's like thirty one hours of flying and layovers and 2 and a half hours of buses when I get there. That's gonna be fun. It's bad, bro. So what are we doing here? We are getting some coffee, man. Just coffee meetup on a Saturday. Yeah, Saturday spin day. Just really good coffee, as you guys might need it.
But, uh, going to spin class right now.
So spin class, spin class with the huzzes, with some Zumba.
I got my Zumba fit on, Carhartts and, uh, some J's. But you know, Who's playing?
Some chick, I don't even know.
Yeah.
Should be a good time. Some good vibes. There might be another thing.
Y'all know what it is, baby.
I like the music though, I'm feeling the—
We made it in, baby.
Boys, we gotta save that for outside, all right? Hey, we made it in. We made it in. We got the good vibes rolling. We got Mr. A-Player himself here. We got the crew. You know what we about to do. We about to vibe out.
Stop what you're doing.
Get in the moment. Stop what you're doing. Doing.
Doing.
Stop what you're doing.
Time for a refill.
Another one?
Hey man, day 48, 75 hard. Straight coffee, but it's just frozen, I promise.
Nothing else.
Nothing else. Hey, if you ain't in Austin, where you at, baby?
What's the name of it?
Rockstar Bagels.
Rockstar Bagels.
Rockstar Bagels.
Let's go get some bagels, baby.
Talk about—
we should talk about sales. Talk about sales. Because of sales. We should talk about because of Sales.
Yeah.
Okay, I wanted to do a media company, basically newsletter, podcast, social media, but I think I need to prioritize the newsletter. I think that's where the money is. People say don't lead with the podcast, lead with the newsletter. So that's what we're going to do. I have some creative ways that I plan to monetize it. I don't think I actually formally— we shared the logo in one of the videos, but I never shared the name. It's called Because of Sales. Basically Basically having people from sales far and wide, different industries, talk about how that shit changed their lives and how they built the lives that they wanted to through sales. Not just financially, but also all the other ways. You get to do stuff like what we're doing today. I know, dude. You get to do stuff like that. Went to Saturday Spin, now we're getting some bagels with the boys.
Hey, what's up guys?
We're also in sales.
Dude, whip it out, bro.
I always got it in the trunk, man, on go.
Yeah, so I'm gonna take it slow, build it right, retain all the equity from the beginning, build it big whether it takes a year, 5 years, 10 years. Build something that can sell, something that can exist without me, because everything I've done to this point has been with me, which is not bad, but it's just the next, the next challenge, the next thing to, to Take on. So that's what we're gonna do. Because honestly, I talk about high-ticket sales a lot on here because that's what I do and that's what we do. But sales in general will change your life. You can get into solar, you can get into pest, roofing, car sales, and it'll change your life if you get into the right role. So just want to let more people know because like, oh, you're, you're more, a little bit more outspoken than I am, but I'm a pretty similar to Diego. I feel like we're a little bit more similar in terms of like just kind of more to ourselves, more chill. And you wouldn't think that is like very synonymous with being good at sales, but it can be. And we're both living different lives because we jumped into it. So I want to show more people that despite what you think you can or can't do, sales is something you should definitely consider. So That's what we're gonna do. That's what the— that's what I want to do on the channel too, but also on the new business, just more broad in the new business. Because I also talk about, you know, high-ticket sales is— it has some of the best upside, but it also can have some of the most downside because it's commission only.
Yeah.
And so, dude, I'm not, you know, I'm not a hater on tech sales. Like, I'll joke around here and there, but tech sales is a great option for certain people depending on what you're looking for. Similar to medical device sales, like fat base pay, funded companies. You're not going to go wrong getting into something like that, but you just, you get certain things in like the high-ticket space that you wouldn't get in those and vice versa. So whatever's important to you, that's what you should chase. What's like the worst type of sales? Life insurance.
I was— insurance.
Life insurance. Yeah, I mean, life insurance is the grind, but then some of these life insurance guys have private jets and and stuff. So if you're more of like an MLM style, life insurance, it's a good option. What I like about life insurance is if you can get it rolling, like, it has that residual. There's nuance to every sales industry. Point is, sales will change your life if you let it.
I think you just got to choose your suck. Like, every single job is gonna have its downside, and it's choosing what type of adversity want to face, you know? Yeah. I think the upside about high-ticket sales is, yeah, it's commission only, but like you have so much flexibility with your schedule, with your location, and just like being able to craft a life around what you want to make it compared to, yeah, you get into medical sales or some other type of corporate sales. Yeah, the upside might be you have a fat salary, but you're stuck in one spot and You really don't have a lot of room for growth compared to high ticket. You know, it's uncapped, man. You can just— yeah, you might have a month you pop off. We know people doing $50K a month, and you know, there's opportunity to really make some life-changing numbers with that. Yeah, you just got to choose your suck.
Even like your dream job, or like people you see on social media and you're like, this person's making all this money, they're hanging out with these cool people, they have these cool cars. Um, there's, there's stuff about what they're doing that they absolutely hate. And any, like, any scenario that you get it, find yourself in, uh, even if you're making a lot of money or you have all the friends in the world, like Noah said, you got to choose your suck. Because even your dream job has parts that get redundant, that get tiring, and just gotta lock in, man, get it done. When I got into sales, I was Driving a car that costs less than the wrap and the ceramic coating that I just put on this one. And that was not even 5 years ago, it was like 4, 4 or so years ago. We did a full PPF, doors, this is all done, even sunroof, top, wing, ceramic coating everything, and the wheels. The only thing we didn't do is from wing down because they— we didn't want to take this off and like break it. But yeah, I was just thinking about that. I was like, that's pretty crazy, bro. But anyways, I gotta go pack for a trip. The boys are about to have my ideal Austin day, which is have meetup, coffee, have some fun, gym, Barton Springs, sun vibes, good food. So we might show some of that after this, but I'm signing off. I gotta go pack. Get into sales, learn the skill. Once you feel like you've outgrown the vehicle Put that skill towards a new vehicle, maximize that vehicle. Once you feel like you've outgrown that, maximize the next one. Keep going, building on your skill set. I think that's one thing that in hindsight I'm really glad I did, is I, I kept building upon what I got good at, and I didn't, I didn't jump from one niche to a completely different thing. Like, I didn't go from sales to e-com to TikTok shop or whatever that is. I mean, they're all great opportunities, but I went from sales to building my own offer around sales to building a sales agency, now building this next business that I just told you guys about, all within the sales niche. So I'm like running with that momentum. It makes it way easier. So anyways, guys, just get into sales, bro. You won't regret it. Just don't— get into sales and don't quit, and you won't regret it. I promise. We're taking over the vlog. We're doing some fun shit, showing it what it— showing you guys what it looks like to be in sales, closing, setting, whatever we're doing. Here in Austin, Texas. We were at a house event drinking some coffee, turned into boozy coffee. Now we're at Lift and apparently it's a house, a little party going on.
Everybody just trying to vibe on this Saturday.
Just having some good vibes on a Saturday. Probably gonna hit Barton Springs after this, jump in, get a little dip in, maybe a little run, something like that. All right, let's get to it.
What? What?
What?
This is the shit that my daddy raised me on. Niggas got let off the features I skated on. I gotta know, I gotta know how you get let off the nigga you hating on. Numbers untouchable, they got the data wrong. This is the moment I know they been praying on. What? Hey, what? Hey, trying out a boy out, but fuck it, I'm staying on. Oh, keep on sending me slats to go crazy on 40. Keep saying it's time to be patient. There's so many people, we turning the tables on. Capo got plans, but we'll save that for later on. They keep saying they know that they played it wrong. Katie just text, what the fuck are we waiting on? Damn. Me, I'm expressionless. Niggas be talking about don't shoot the messenger. Fire, fire, fire, you get shot for way less than here. None of you pussies is blocking my blessings here.
What?
All these years throwing success in your face. All of these baddies obsessed with my face. All the shit they don't address in my face. I can't be showing no stress in my face. What? Yeah, no face, no face, no face, no face, no face, no face.
You're not working. I command you to grow. Hey man, before this, Tony looked, texted us and said it's delt day. I said, man, we're just doing delts and, uh, we're done now. And we did delts and I'm cooked. He said, I told you to trust. You did it for us, brother. He said damn. But we're gonna go chill out at the Barton Springs.
Uh, I was about to say something, but I gotta watch what I say.
Nah, man.
Nah, nah, nah, nah. We're just, we're just gonna chill, vibe out, vibe out, and see where the day brings us.
Yes, sir. Peace.
Right, we are.
What was that?
I said effing right we're getting in the water.
Effing right.
We wouldn't be here for no reason.
You know what?
Let's make it happen, Cam.
Make it happen, Ganton. Aye aye.
I'm gonna hop in a second. I'm just getting some vitamin D right now.
That's it, bro.
We're just meat computers, bro. Like, you could download whatever you want in your brain. Software, whether you want to get smarter, read more. IQ is limited, but at the same sense, it's like, is it nature, is it nurture type shit? You want to get big, lift, eat protein, or take steroids. Get— take steroids. Trying to get hoes, bro, just jump into the arena and just start talking to random women, man. Like, it's all a game.
Theodore Roosevelt, man. We were talking— me and, me and, uh, Dylan were talking about game theory earlier. You got some game theory to drop?
It's crazy. Because it's like, even in econ, like, if you think about it, like, everything, it's just about calculated risk. Everything you do, like, there's nothing that's guaranteed, but you can increase your chances of getting something. You just gotta stack up your XP on your skill tree, bro. It just depends what kind of skill tree you're trying to build.
I don't know why bros are just scared of risk. Like, if you want success, you gotta have risk. They go hand in hand.
We're younger though, so like, we could take more risk.
Nah, don't give me that.
But it's how many calls you get on with young dudes. But if you were like 40 though, and like you have kids type shit, like you can't take the same risk that we're doing right now and just be cruising because we have literally nothing to lose, nothing in the game. So that's how I think about it. Like realistically, like the more the more I don't know this risk. He's going to Japan or Korea, or he's going through Korea.
Japan.
North Korea he's going to. We're out here living Dylan's dream day. Barton, Lyft, Mushroom Cowboy. Now we're at P. Terry's.
Nothing better.
Just some sales bros just chilling. No piss on the day though, unfortunately. None of y'all, right?
Just a no-show.
Yeah, he got no-showed. Big part of the game. He's got a refund coming in, unfortunately. What about you?
Anything?
Any updates with you in the sales?
I had no calls.
No calls, no nothing. I closed the mock. He closed the mock, so we're on the up. I'm still just videoing shit, just living life, man, one day at a time.
