Productivity - Do It Great, Delegate, or...?

A short ProductivityPearls.com YouTube tip by Dr. Ed Tori about a simple decision-making rule: for any task decide whether to do it great, delegate it, or eliminate it. He explains the rationale (decisions cut off other options), how he reminds himself with a dry-erase note, and mentions a fourth option—automate—that he recently added.

Hi, this is Dr. Tory with ProductivityPearls.com Today's tip is all about decisions. Now, I've heard it said, I think, by Tony Robbins, that the word decision literally means to cut off. Sort of like incision means to cut into, decission means to cut off. Now, why is that important? It's because the moment you make a decision, you. You're cutting off some other options and moving forward with whatever it is you've decided, right? So here's how I help myself make decisions. One is that I have this thing written next to my desk on the wall. I have a dry erase wall right on there. It says, your choice, meaning your decision. Do it great. Delegate or eliminate. Do it great. Delegate or eliminate. So when I am faced with an action, a task, a chore, a step toward reaching my goals, I ask myself, can I do it great? If I can do it great, then maybe that's what I should do. If I can't do it great, or if I. If I think that's not actually the best use of my time, even if I could do it great and it's not the best use of my time, then the question is, can I delegate? Can I give that task to someone else? Whether it's through outsourcing or somebody that works with me or under me or even over me or some other division or some other place, is there someone I can delegate that task to? So do it great. If not, delegate. And if not, eliminate. Cut it off. Get rid of it. Say, no, I'm not doing that thing. It's not worth doing. Done. I'm not the person for that thing. Now, personally, I have struggled a lot with saying no. So I put those three things next to my computer and on the wall to remind me that if I'm not going to do it great, and if it's not easy for me to delegate, then I should eliminate it. And so once you have those three, that helps you make the decision. Do it great. Delegate or eliminate. Try that. Put that. Write it down somewhere. Put it with. And actually, I've added a fourth recently, and that is Automate, but we could talk about that another time. Do it great. Delegate or eliminate.
