Maria Testimonial

Maria has done Soul Core Fitness for four years, starting online during the pandemic. She says the low-impact routines look easy but are deceptively hard, and they've improved her posture, reduced injury risk, and made her more aware of how she moves in daily life. She values the instructor's clear explanations of why each exercise matters.

Okay. Hello, Facebook world. Hello, Maria. How are you?
I'm doing very well, thank you.
So Maria has been with our program for what, three years?
Four years, probably four. Because I began when you. During the pandemic, when you were doing things online.
Exactly. And so from there, she went to do my online program, and she comes out to see her sons in Santa Fe. So she's done two or three private sessions. And I've just seen Maria really take to the course and then really get some good results. So I want to have this interview with Maria so she can talk about her results. So I'll let you talk, Maria, but before you started. Well, let me ask you this question. Why did you seek out Soul Core Fitness.
In. I had. Before I started with the online offerings, I had again identified the place because, as you mentioned, I come to Santa Fe with some frequency, and I was looking at places where I could perhaps continue with my exercising in my visits there. So that's how I had gotten soulcore into. In my radar screen. And then when the pandemic came about and then I couldn't go to places, I thought it was wonderful to be able to try that out with what you were doing. And I thought it was an approach that made so much sense that I was keen on starting it. And once I started it, I really enjoyed doing it, and I really noticed that it makes a difference. And so that's why I stuck with it, in a sense. And I went through versions of what you can do for all of us.
As you did so before, though, what were you doing? What was your life like?
I have always been active in doing different types of things. When I was significantly younger, but even a little bit after that, I. I did ballet on a very, you know, just casual manner, if you will. Then I've done yoga aerobics, step aerobics. I think that I tried all the different versions of exercising that came and went because I waves. Some stay like yoga, for example. But then I think there are other things, kickboxing and step aerobics and etc. Etc. So I. And I always feel that being active physically is. Makes me not only feel better physically, but I really notice a difference in. In my mental state, if you will, really makes a difference.
So when you first started with the program, like, once you kind of get into the rhythm of it, how did you find it? What was. What was good? What was challenging? What was your experience?
Well, everything is challenging, even though it doesn't look challenging.
This is true.
Very deceiving. Because if you look at someone just going through some of the. Some of their routines. Doesn't look like you would be stressing too much about it. I mean, you're not jumping around or doing things that seem to be more physically active. However, I think that it is really challenging and I'm glad that at times when I was doing it, of course you couldn't hear me. You know, my sound was turned off so I could doing. But it's really different in that I believe that in most of the other types of physical activity, physical exercising that I had tried before, it seems much more localized in a sense. So yes, I could feel that I had more strength in my arms or I could feel that type of thing. Whereas what I notice different with your program is in a sense putting my whole body in a harmonic situation among its different parts so that then I could do other type of things. It's really just feeling lighter in a sense.
So I know what you mean by localize. Is there any way you can expound on this to the general public and what that means to you?
Again, as I said, for example, if in doing. I lifted weights or there were certain routines of different types of classes, I don't even know what labels to put onto them that I could, I could realize, oh yes, really, the muscles in my arms are stronger or my quads are stronger. So in that sense that yes, there were good results and things that I might have been looking for. But then I think that your program is almost the context the that if it's well in place, then those other things are going to be much more effective and make more sense. And then of course I think that in terms, there are the things that one tends not to give so much attention to because I've done a lot of academic work in my life, desk work, right. Bad positioning. And quite often in regular types of exercising, there is no focus on that. It may again be more strengthening muscles or bettering one's aerobic capacity. But it's that, as I said, in a sense it's that background, it's that glue that holds everything together. So then, then we can do other things.
So I'm really glad to hear you say that because I'm sure you've heard heard me say this a million times. That's what I mean by structure dictates function to where you can get results from other classes and stuff like that, no problem. But the posture and the structure isn't as much of a focus. So eventually those techniques can, while they lead to some good results, will actually lead to worse posture, to where we go through. And yes, we want to strengthen, stretch, mobilize, but at the same time have better posture. So if you have a desk posture, we can work with that. Or if you have a. I don't know, you're a concrete guy, I can't think of all things, you can work with that. So that's really cool to hear. So from all this wonderful work and you're muted and buttoned and saying things I couldn't hear, what results have you gotten and what's your life like now?
Again? Because it's not. It relates to what we were just talking about, right. That it's not, oh, I know that I can lift more weights, even though I know I can do things with better results. Something else that I wanted to mention, but you kind of touched on that as well, is that through many of the. Of the routines or exercises that you have in your program, I think it has made me much more aware of how to do other things well, which is very helpful because, number one, I don't want to hurt myself, but I want to be. I have too many things in my life, so I want to be as efficient as I can when doing whatever it is that I'm doing. So if I'm devoting some time to a particular activity, exercising, I mean, I wanted to really be producing the results that it's supposed to produce. I think that in order for that to happen, again, being much more aware or more understanding of how the different parts of our body work, that I've learned that through your program, I think that that helps as well.
Yeah. And so by being specific, like we talked about before, I always tell people you become more aware of your movements, and it's because you're a bunch of computers in your body. So you wake up your body, and so when you wake up your body, it tells your brain, hey, I've got all this stuff to work with. So even if you're just sitting there like now, or you're just making breakfast, you're more aware of how your body's moving where prior maybe you moved, but it wasn't as fluid or as much awareness as possible. Well, that's great. I'm really happy for your results. I know that you'll keep doing the program. I have no doubt about that in my mind. And I want to thank you for this time to talk with me. It was great. And more continued success to you.
Well, you're very welcome. And I want to say as well that you have a very good way of helping us pay attention to what we need to pay attention and. And of encouraging us to keep going. And that I think it's very important. I know that it's eventually back on each one of us to do things. Your guidance and also the level of explanation. And that probably something that reflects my way of thinking, but I need to understand how things work and the whys. And so all the guidance that you provide doing the routines, that has been very helpful to me as well.
Awesome. Well, again, thank you, Maria. It's been a pleasure working with you.
You're welcome.
I know this is not the last time we'll talk, so thank you again so much. I appreciate it. You're welcome. Bye.
Bye.
