Emanuel Ruiz, who owns Maverick, breaks down how Amazon's Black Friday label actually works. Sellers pay $250 for the label, Amazon checks the last 90 days of pricing, and items must be at least 20% below that average to qualify. The label is strict enough that you're probably getting a real deal when you see it.

So I own this brand called Maverick and I currently have this Black Friday deal. And a lot of people are jaded as to these Amazon sellers only heighten up their price and when Black Friday hits, they just have a discount on it and it's the illusion of giving a sale. Well, the thing is, if I want to have this label here that says Black Friday deal, first off, I have to give Amazon $250 for it. Second of all, I have a reference price. So you can see here, my typical, typical price is $190. And this is based on the last 90 days worth of sales. So that's the average price that people have paid for my product over the last 90 days. If I am not below 20% from that reference price, I am not allowed to have a Black Friday deal. So just know if someone has this label on Amazon. And you're shopping right now, you are legitimately getting a deal. I don't know about Target. I don't know about Walmart, but for Amazon, they are very strict on this.
