A $5M/year Amazon seller who sources 95% from China argues tariffs aren't really about jobs. He says they're leverage to stop Chinese sellers from trademark infringement and listing hijacking, which U.S. courts can't easily enforce across borders.

So I think we realized that these tariffs were never about bringing jobs back to America because we just paused for 90 days every single country's new tariff agreement by Trump except for one country and one country only, and that is China. And basically what we're doing right now is we're going toe-to-toe with China. And if you asked me maybe last week I was opposed to all of this. I was opposed to it because I believe in free trade, but mainly because I rely on manufacturing all of my products, 95% of my products, in China. You see, I'm a small brand, but I still do right around $5 million per year in revenue. Revenue does not equal profit, but I rely on China manufacturing very, very much. But now that I think about it, and now that, you know, we're having this kind of trade war with one country and one country only, China, I do think that there is argument to be made that we need to have this type of war against China. Why? Because most sellers, especially on Amazon, are Chinese. Every single year, more than any other country, Chinese sellers are entering the space on Amazon. And these aren't just ordinary sellers, right? I can deal with new sellers coming onto the platform. But the thing is, the majority of these black hat tactics, basically cheating, ripping off, using my trademark, trying to sell under my whole listing, comes from one country and one country only. And if you try and sue, good luck. You try to get an attorney to try and sue in China, good luck. So I do think that tariffs is one thing, manufacturing is a different thing. But I think this is a negotiating tactic to really start implementing rules in place that if you are a Chinese type of seller, there are going to be rules and restrictions. And if you're breaking the law, there is no more being lenient on this particular country.
