Do you struggle with fear, doubt and worry in your public speaking? If yes, then let's dive in the world of public speaking and presentation skills with your host, Eric Edmeads. Welcome to the Unforgettable podcast.
Welcome to Speaker Nation. My name is Eric Edmeads and I'm really glad that you're here right now. I'm glad that you're here right now for a number of reasons, but one of them is, is because, well, it tells me that you're intrigued or at least curious about Speaker Nation and what we can do for you. But the other thing that makes me really glad that you're here is that you're definitely curious and intrigued about public speaking. And so I want to give you a little bit of personal background and company background and just let you know who we are and what it is that we're really doing and what we can do for you. So, as I said, my name is Eric and there was a time, there was a time when I was absolutely phobic, absolutely terrified of public speaking. If somebody asked me to do a talk on a Friday and they asked me on Monday, I would absolutely say no. But even having said no, I would be nervous. I would feel churning in my stomach, and all through the week I would have a hard time with my appetite. Eating would not be so easy and it wouldn't pass until the Friday event was over. And that was when I said no to the event. Imagine what might have happened if I'd said yes now, luckily for me, I overcame that. I overcame that. And now as I look back at my life and I look back at who I was living with, that fear, that scares me. I would never want to go back to that existence. That was an existence of not being comfortable in my own skin and not being willing to share my ideas, not being willing to be self expressed. And so the gift that I gave myself of becoming comfortable and competent at public speaking, whether it was speaking to two people, 20 people, 2,000 people, 20,000 people, or millions of people in YouTube videos, that gift has completely changed my life in two ways. The first way is personal. It really woke me up to my potential as me and it made me feel more comfortable in every social situation I can possibly tell you about. It doesn't matter if I'm walking into a networking event or getting pulled over by the police. I tell you that when you can communicate for yourself, it changes everything. But then let's talk about professional advancement. I can tell you right now, one of the most sought after skills in the world of professional endeavor. Whether you're starting your own business or you or you have a job, one of the most sought after skills in the world is good public speaking skills, good communication skills. And so we have a principle at Speaker Nation that we talk about and that is that you right now, listening to my voice, watching this video, you right now are one talk away from the next major professional upgrade. I don't know what it is. I don't know if there's a book inside you or there's a Netflix series you want to launch or investors you're trying to attract to your business or the next promotion at your job. I don't know what that upgrade is for you, but what I do know is that you are literally right now, in this moment, one well constructed and one well executed talk away from your next professional upgrade. And here's where it gets even more exciting. It's not only ever just that one talk, because you deliver that one talk and you get this upgrade and that puts you in a whole different place. And then you deliver another talk and it gets you that upgrade. I'll give you one example. Many years ago I was running businesses. That's what I did. And I did some speaking for my businesses by that point, but I wasn't really a speaker, so to speak. But then I got a phone call and the phone call was, would you please come and speak for our organization? And I was like, sure, I'll come and do it. And I delivered this one talk. London, England. I delivered this one talk for a group of entrepreneurs. And at that talk, somebody walked up to me and said, that talk was fantastic. Could you do that same talk again next week in Singapore? And so I landed my first international speaking gigs in Singapore. I was invited to Australia and New Zealand. In Australia, New Zealand, I was invited to California and Nevada. And I literally did my first ever professional international speaking tour. Invite to invite. Because of one talk that I delivered. And so when I say that you're one talk away from your next professional upgrade, that is a series of cascading talks that can keep elevating you and keep getting your voice out into the world. Speaker Nation is all about helping you find your voice and helping you develop the very best way to get it out into the world. And I want to suggest you two things for you to think about as you're listening right now. The one is how it feels to be self expressed, how it feels to not walk away from conversations thinking, oh, I wish I would have said that, because I know that feeling. That's the one thing I want you to think about. But the other thing I want you to think about is, well, the responsibility. I bet that you have stories and you have life experience that would be very, very valuable to other people if you were super comfortable and confident and empowered to get those messages out to an even larger number of people. And so not only is it about your own personal quality of life, but it's also about the responsibility, the great responsibility that comes with becoming a great speaker, a great teacher. And so Speaker Nation is here to provide you with the training, the resources, the places to practice, the feedback, and everything that you need to help you get your voice out into the world, to help you be heard. All of your options for membership are right here on this page, and I hope to see you at one of our practice sessions really soon.
