You know, we're doing the speaker review, preview review. Just loving these, loving them. And this guy was really interesting for me to observe because, you know, it was like watching the Matrix in his mind, you know, and really, really powerful, one on one. But watching the five days and his ability to get into his body, like living fully in his body, not just in his head, as remarkable to see that transition. Right?
Yeah, very powerful. We're talking about Jeffrey Perlman, and he was one of the co founders of Zumba and the chief marketing officer there. And he is absolutely brilliant. I've known him for a long time. He's a very good friend. And I would say that there's nobody else in the world that I would ever turn to for, say, branding advice. But what's been interesting is, as you put it, is that he's been really good at organically coaching or consulting or supporting somebody and exploring their brand. But to present that in front of, say, a room was not ever in his comfort zone. And so to watch him take the stage and deliver a really solid from the heart message, I think is going to be a treat for everybody. I think we're going to enjoy tuning it.
Yeah. When you talk about popcorn, this is like a late pop, right? Even in the morning and just seeing it all come together and that's really remarkable. So let's roll it and we'll talk about it afterwards.
Thank you. You know, the only problem that I have with your story is that I don't think that the point of life is to get things. I think that if you're here to get famous or you're here to get money, that's not the way nature flows. Nature gives. A flower comes into this earth to give its pollen. People come here to give birth to children. You know, that's the law of nature. And I learned this the hard way. You know, when I was a teenager. All I wanted to do when I grew up was be a gangster. Like music, Tupac and Dr. Dre. And I used to wear my pants down to my. Down there, the gangster. I also happened to be short and white and Jewish. But that didn't matter. I was a gangster. And I talked about bitches and cribs and brides and Benjamins, and I wanted all of that. You know what? When I turned 30, I got all of that. I had built the largest branded fitness company in the world at the time with my partners, and Lori was one of our instructors. Do you remember the convention in 2011? Do you remember who was there? Pitbull.
Right.
So picture this. Orlando, the convention center. We rent the entire convention center and the three hotels around it. One of those hotels, the penthouse suite, is my suite. And Pitbull is in my party. There's just me and him and 300 women. And I was in a rap music video. Like, I had gotten to where they told me, you know, where happiness was, where the rappers told me my. My birthday, my 30th birthday. Some friends throw me a party. And Wyclef was in that party, and he was singing no Jeffrey, no cry instead of no woman, no cry. No, Jeffrey, no cry. And. And everybody's laughing. I'm laughing. We're having a wonderful time. But I had one of those freeze frames, you know, when you. Your life just stops and you look at yourself from the outside. And. And the. The thing is that I really was crying inside. I was crying. I was crying because I had gotten all of that shit, and I wasn't happy. I was nowhere near being happy. Happiness seemed impossible to get, because at least before I could say, I'll be happy when, I'll be happy when I get this or when I get that, I lived in a penthouse that was a crystal palace. I had a supercharged Range rover in a 1966 Camaro SS parked in the driveway. I had eight girlfriends, and my life was fucking miserable. And. And so I learned that. And so I realized that I had to face a monster. I had to work on myself. I had to find where happiness actually came from. And I think it's in the giving, not in the taking. Thank you. Give it to me straight, Jeffrey.
You're a very confident speaker, and I really like the tone of your voice. And yet you're still able to show your vulnerability, and I think that's really admirable.
Yeah. Jeffrey, how do I say this? Because I've been sitting in the back and staying out of the way because I wasn't participating. It was every time you walked by me, I wanted to come up and talk to you. And, you know, you've got that sort of. There's something about you. There's a stature about You. There's a but. Watching you get in your body, seeing you, you know, because, you know, you're a great mind, and your, Your mind is always constructing and, and, and you, you know, you, you. You think on a level, it's like the Matrix. I can see it by me. But seeing this, seeing your whole body alive and talking, and it's just a presence. And it's, it's. It is fabulous to see. Thank you.
Thank you. You're looking at my ass, right? You're seeing my whole body.
I did look at your ass, yes.
He actually told me he hoped you were going to do that.
Facing that way.
I've known you for a long time, as I said this morning, and I've known that whenever I could, like, you.
Know, get you away from all the.
Noise and what have you, if you and I sat down and have a chat, then fireworks would happen. Incredible creativity and phenomenal things. But it was always kind of a matter of catching the phenomenal things, like as they were flying around. It's like some people have attention deficit disorder and how they receive. It's like you have creativity scatter disorder. And it's like as the ideas come out of you, they're flying and you. We kind of filter them down and filter them down.
And one of the things I've always.
Wanted to do is this, is get you into that place where you can tell a story really well, make it so engaging. And the funny thing is you just did it in a way where nobody.
Here believes me that you haven't been.
Doing it the whole time you walked out here. It's like.
Well, no, I just.
I just look. Tony's looking at me like, what are you talking about? Jeffrey does this all the time. And I'm, I'm. I love it. I'm really. You have so much to give to the world. You have such a good mind and you have such good thoughts about everything. And I'm thrilled to be watching you deliver it in a way where people are going to receive it and they're going to take action on.
They're going to be inspired by it.
And I'm. I'm just proud and grateful and thanks for being my friend.
Thank you.
Wow.
Thank you very much. Thank you all.
What a great close, right? It's in the giving, not the taking. And what a great story for the world. You know, when he had everything, the Ferraris, the apartment, everything, and then really just going in to find and unlock this joy and happiness, right?
Yeah.
It is very important, I think, for people to hear this message, because most people will not easily arrive at a place in their life where they have every material desire met. And the strangest thing is, when you do get to a place like that, there's a perspective. And that perspective is you begin to realize that those material things are not where the happiness comes from. And he delivers that so very well from a position of, you know, having anybody on his speed dial, having any experience he wanted to have, to recognizing that those external things are not the cause of happiness, that that's something he needed to seek for himself. I really love that he shared this message. And I often. I have to say that knowing him very well, it was done with incredible vulnerability. It was. You know, very often, I think he hides behind his intelligence. And to see him really nail this and give it to us straight. What a pleasure.
Yeah. And it gives everyone hope. You know, if you've already reached a pinnacle, and a lot of people have, they reach pinnacles, different pinnacles in your life, even financial success, is that your story's ever evolving and changing and growing as you grow. So, you know, we really want you to think about that. Going back to the Rembrandt in the closet is that there are some stories that you're living right now that will become a story that you'll be sharing with the world.
And I have to add this. David Jeffrey called me about, I don't know, three weeks or so after this, and he said, I don't know what you've done to me, but something major has shifted. And he's talking about one of the relationships that suffered through all the stuff he went through with Wycliffe John. And he says, I don't know how the universe shifted, but me getting my story out, he said, eric, last night, I was on stage here in Dubai with Wycliffe John having a party, reconnecting that part of my life again. It was healing. Really powerful and healing. So I think that's an important thing that we have to remember, is that sharing your story with the world is. It is about giving, but it is also often about healing.
It's cathartic, right? It's cathartic, yeah. So we want you to remember you are a living story, and you definitely have a Rembrandt, and we can't wait to hear that story.
