How you feeling, Nina?
I'm hot.
You're hot? I know you're hot, but how you feeling? So lesson learned: don't walk in the bike lane. What's up, Nina?
Huh?
I believe in you, Nina. Nina hasn't seen me yet. She's gonna be really surprised.
Oh my God, who's this?
Be the Hamburg! Put on a fireworks show! People want to come back! That's what I'm talking about! Love it! We are walking to find a Starbucks to sit down, enjoy a coffee. It's going to be our last Starbucks for 2 days because tomorrow is the day at sea, so We're following our directions. What are you gonna get? No, I think we're walking the right way. I have an internal GPS. We know where we're going. What are you gonna get, a warm drink or cold? Warm. Uh-oh, I felt the drop. You know, I felt the drop.
No, I didn't get it.
No? Okay, good. Okay, let's find our Starbucks.
Go! Oh, look what we found!
Good job, Nina. Oh, and they have pumpkin spice.
Let's see what we're gonna order.
Done with Starbucks. Wow, we're still drinking, but we're gonna head off to, uh, St. Michael's Church where you can climb up the tower to get to the top and have a view of the city. Uh, we'll see how it goes with this rain, but, uh, excited to check it out. Last stop before heading back to the cruise ship. All right, time to climb the stairs to the top. 5,022. Totally joking, it's not 5,000.
2022.
I totally made that up, Nina. 5,000— you know how many stairs 5,022 would be? It'd be crazy. We've only done like 30 of the 5,000-something stairs, Nina, so we're gonna have to go a little faster. You think you're at the top, but you're not. Keep going, Nina, keep going. This does not count as your workout for the day, by the way. Keep going. Oh, here's the bell. Look at the bell. That means we're almost there. You got it, Nina. You got this. What's up, Nina? Huh? I believe in you, Nina. 5,000 stairs. Look how high up we are. Look. Look at the buildings outside. Here she comes. This is the last set. Go, Nina. Oh, not quite the last set. Almost.
Almost.
Come on up, Nina. I know I said the last one was the last one, but this is actually the last one. Except if you want to go up there.
Good job, Nina.
High five for Nina.
Boom. Welcome to Hamburg, everybody.
We didn't quite make it to the top. Almost. What?
That was pretty good.
That was pretty good. Nina's legs are burning. Yeah. You like those 5,000 steps? That's pretty cool up there though. I'm glad we went. Okay, next home. Find the subway. We're not gonna walk that, right? Find the subway and get back to the cruise. All right, Nina made an executive decision. She wants to walk back. So we've got how long? 40 minutes? 45 minutes? 40-minute walk. That's the stairs. I like it. Hopefully it doesn't rain. Get some solid weather. And, uh, we get our steps in. You're gonna have a lot of steps today, Nina. We'll do an official count once we get back on the boat. All right, onwards to the cruise. So they have bike lanes everywhere here, but it's really hard to see. So I'm gonna be asking to check it out here. There's a difference in the brick. This brown brick is the bike lane, this regular brick is the walking lane. So it's not super clear where the bike lane is and where you're supposed supposed to walk. And, uh, Nina and I both almost got hit by a cyclist today. So lesson learned, don't walk in the bike lane.
How you feeling, Nina?
I'm hot.
You're hot? I know you're hot, but how are you feeling?
I feel a little lightheaded.
Lightheaded? Okay. So don't go on the boat and start drinking, okay?
I think it's just like I'm warm, but my head, I feel cold.
Time for an ice shower when we get home.
No.
Ice shower.
Norwegian cider. Let's go.
All right, let's keep walking. Oh my goodness. What did we find, Nina? What did we find? Looks like our boat. Very, very, very, very excited.
We are almost here.
Nina, we made it. We made it. We made it. All right, we are back. Back on the boat. We are happy. We are a little tired. We're gonna go to the room and what, chill out for a little bit, relax, uh, maybe sit down and then get ready to eat. Although neither of us are hungry right now, but I think a little water, getting that into us, we'll be ready to go for dinner soon.
We'll see.
Okay, Nina, step count. How many steps did we do today? 30— almost 33,000. That's pretty good, and we're not even done yet. High five. Boom. Good job, Nina. Wow, when you did that, you shook the camera. Such force. Don't mess with Nina and her high fives. All right, so I had a shower because my feet were really smelly. Because after 30,000 steps of walking in 5-toe shoes where your socks get wet, it gets pretty smelly. So I decided to shower and do the shave. Nina hasn't seen me yet. She's gonna be really surprised. So I thought I'd show you guys first. The new— huh? Huh? What do we think, friends? What do we think? Huh? Is it good? Do we like it? Let's see Nina's reaction. Nina, something to show you.
Oh my God, who's this? I don't even recognize you.
Okay, you happy?
Yes.
Got the shave on.
Now I can kiss you.
Oh, wow. All right. Okay. Everybody wins then. I've never seen Nina so happy. You have her try new food and she's like, yeah, just shave a little bit. But you see, the beard allows you to appreciate the shaved face. If it was this every day, you get used to it and then you wouldn't be happy. So boom! All right, for you, happy vacation. All right, so getting used to, uh, the new face.
The clean face.
Okay, well, we are all cleaned up. We're gonna go downstairs. We're gonna go for dinner. I'm not really hungry, but, uh, yeah, it's gonna be crazy. Everybody's gonna get back on the boat and go to dinner, and last time we waited long, we were the last to be served and it took forever. So we're gonna try to get there a little earlier, though I think it's still gonna be a lineup. We'll see. Uh, I'm probably gonna eat a little light, not, not have a beer, just have some water, and, uh Enjoy some food. Nina's hungry?
Not really.
No? All right, well, when you're not hungry, it's important to go to dinner and then go eat dessert at the buffet. The Filipina bartender asked Nina if she was Filipina. Are you Filipina?
No, I look like one, but I'm not. I always got asked.
What do you think, Believe Nation? Is Nina Filipina? Did she just lie to me and say she's Chinese? Is she really a Filipina?
Actually, I got few. Either I'm Filipino or either I'm Vietnamese.
Filipina, okay, not a Filipino. That'd be scary. That's really— that's a big lie then. Whatever you are, we love you and you're cute. Okay, that was a pretty fake smile. Alright, boat is leaving. We're being pulled out. We just had a good dinner. I'm feeling pretty good. I had 2 desserts. Nina's feeling very stuffed.
Yeah, I'm stuffed.
So we're gonna head back up to the room.
Buffet.
Buffet?
But you want to go to check the ice cream? The dessert ice cream?
Right now? No, I think I'll break. A break. We're gonna go to the room. You're gonna, you're gonna work out, right?
No, I need to—
you're gonna break? Okay, we're gonna break. Then Nina's gonna work out. I'm gonna work on the book. Guys, when you know what you need to do, when you have clear focus, you gotta push as hard as you can. Push as hard as you can while you have clear focus. You don't know what you're doing, that's okay. You explore, you try things out. But when you know Push as hard as you can because that window is going to close. You know, that's my rant for the day. Nina's holding on to me. Holding on. You're getting on the treadmill. Nina's gonna get in the treadmill.
All right, I said my piece.
Well, let's see if we get a towel animal today. Oh cool, I've never seen a penguin. That, Nina, you're my little penguin. Okay, so we were We were supposed to leave like a couple hours ago, but they basically just lined up all the cruise ships that were leaving Hamburg at the same time and they scheduled them and now they put on this fireworks show. So that was the fireworks show from my boat, which is awesome. And I'm going to show you the lineup of all the cruise ships behind me and in front. So there's one in front of us and then there's us, and then if I scroll around, you'll see that there's another behind and there's another behind and I think another even behind. So there's like 5 different cruise ships here, and it's a pretty cool thing to get known for, right? I'm always looking at business models. It's cool to know that when you go to Hamburg, there's going to be a fireworks show. It's a blast-off to celebrate the people that have come. It makes the cruise ships delay their itinerary, right? Like, we're supposed to leave at 8 and it's now like 10, so we waited 2 extra hours just so that we could line up the boats to give the show to the audience. And it's a free thing for the cruise ships and for the passengers and put on by the city of Hamburg. And it's a really cool thing. It makes people want to come back. It makes the cruise ships want to come back. They made a special announcement saying, guys, check out on the left side— it's not the left side, whatever the sea term is— port side. Check it out because they're going to do it. And so I'm always thinking from a business perspective or entrepreneurship or even on a city level, what can you do that makes people want to come back, that stands out, that gets noticed? Because we've been to all these different cities, none of them did something like this. Oh, now they're starting it for the boat behind, right? That's going on for these guys behind us now, right? So like, what can you do to stand out? What can you do so that people want to come back to your business, that it makes a notable, notable difference, right? Be the Hamburg! Put on a fireworks show! People want to come back! That's what I'm talking about!
Love it!
Could you guys hear that cheering after? Could you hear the cheering? I want that cheer for your business. I want you to be the Hamburg. There's at least 5 cruise ships that are here that are leaving tonight that delayed their itinerary, that made a point to come here to Hamburg where every other city that we've been to has been like one other cruise ship, no cruise ships, two cruise ships. There's at least five cruise ships here. And yes, that put, you know, that costs the city some money to put on, right? It costs them some money. But you've got five cruise ships at least. That's 10,000+ people coming to your city, investing money, spending cash, propping up the businesses that are here. It's worth it just to put on a quick fireworks show and thank the people for coming out, right? You hear the horns, cruise ships saying thank you. I want that for your business. What's that in your business? What's the fireworks show to say thank you to your customers so that they want to come back every single time? I love it. Make that happen. Be the Hamburg. All right, Nina's back from her workout. How'd you do, Nina? Yeah, yeah, 10,000 steps, an hour workout, 600 calories. Nice. Now we're gonna head up to the 12th deck and check out the food. Nina, Nina deserved it. She earned it. I did too. I did some good book work, and then I went on a— y'all, you missed my rant. I went on a huge rant about fireworks. It's good. You know, we passed the Lion King thing again. You know, we stayed here. We stayed here for like 2 hours. Yeah, yeah, we left at 8 and it's 10. We stayed here for 2 hours just to line up the boats to do that parade to watch the fireworks. 2 hours. See, that's the power. Be like Hamburg, guys. Okay, this is the moment of truth. What? Rhubarb. What is— do they have rhubarb? Do they have a crumble? What do they have? No. It's a Linzer tart? Oh man, that's a letdown. I don't think I— it looks too dry to put anything on.
Yeah.
Alright.
Well, if you have ice cream, you make it wet.
Just ice cream? Very sad.
You can make it wet with ice cream.
Nina's looking on the positive side of things. I appreciate that, Nina. That's a lot of cookies, Nina. Holy crap.
You want a breadstick?
Cookies with fried chicken wings?
Yeah.
I'm still upset about whatever that gross thing is instead of my usual stuff. I went to go get a soup bowl for my ice cream because the ice cream bowls are too small. Nina, that's not how you do ice cream, okay? Okay, this is not how you do ice cream. You want to see how you do ice cream? This is how you do ice cream.
Oh my gosh, compare the size of the two.
Why is this not coming out? There we go. Next time, guys, give me some quality Strawberry rhubarb or apple crumble, blueberry crumble, or anything.
Otherwise I'm stuck with this.
All right, there we go. That's delicious. All right, back to the room to relax and work on the book. All right, 11:40, about to wrap up for the night. Got to page 280 of 428. Moving on to Dave Grohl. He's got an awesome story. So 280, let's see how much progress I can make tomorrow. It's a day at sea, so hopefully can get some good work done. That's what I got for you guys today. Thank you for joining me on another fun Life with Evan episode. We had a great time in Hamburg. Day at Sea tomorrow, then London, then back to Toronto, back to work. I love it. Hope you had an amazing weekend. I believe in you. Hope you continue to believe in yourself and whatever your one word is. Much love. I'll see you soon.
