Bruce Lipton: How to Visualize What You Want!

Bruce Lipton and experts including Mel Robbins and Joe Dispenza explain how visualization actually works. The reticular activating system directs your attention to what you focus on, habit change takes 66 days of conscious effort, and manifesting requires bridging intention to action through daily practice, not wishful thinking.

What you focus on with your thoughts, your brain will manifest as reality. Everything you do in your life, you put out energy for. Therefore, start to review what you're doing in your life, because if you're putting your energy into things you cannot change in this world, that is exactly the same as writing a check and just throwing away your money to the outside because you get nothing back from it. So think about this very interesting reality that you have this energy checkbook, and every time you use energy, you have to say, is the use of this energy going to enhance my life, or is it just wasted energy? And And then when you start to realize that, you start to direct your actions where you put your energy into things that enhance your life. So the point is this: we are facing some rough times. The more thoughts you put into the negative aspect, the more thoughts you put into the fear, these negative thoughts, these negative stresses actually impair your immune system and bring on disease itself. Rule number 2 is overcome basic mistakes with Shi Hung Yi. Why do you think most people fail to manifest what they want? Is it because they don't have the discipline, the willpower, the consistency Is it because they're not strong enough or willing to develop the strength?
Why do they fail at manifesting?
I think it is a question of time. In my world, people are repeating the same mistakes over and over again because they haven't overcome them yet.
They're still level 1.
They keep failing at level 1. They haven't beaten that level yet.
Yes.
Master the level.
Yes.
But it's out of question for me that they will. Why is that? Because you can touch 3 times on the hot heat plate and it hurts 3 times. You touch the 4th time, it still hurts. 5th time, still hurts.
There will come the day they say, ah, no more.
Now no more.
No more.
Yeah.
It might take a while.
I mean, I expressed it maybe like in a funny way, but It's true though. It is even said like this in the teachings, yeah? You cannot teach someone who is not willing to be taught. Don't waste your time on people or to teach people that are not having the willingness to learn. Don't waste. This is also the reason why this what I try to present right now, We don't have missionaries going out like saying, look, we have the answers to your problems. We don't do that stuff.
Because if people aren't receptive to it, it's not going to work.
Exactly. If people are becoming ready, how do they know they become ready? It's because they start to ask different questions, right? And once you start to ask the questions, sooner or later in this lifetime, Let's just say, what happens after death? Let's just assume this one. This question only we can ask. People that are right now starving in the world, they are not asking what happens after death. People that are feeling too good, they're also not coming up with this type of question. So that means Whoever is asking this question already is at a certain level in his life, in his development of the mind. Yeah. And this is like why I appreciate this type of teaching so much, because for every person, there is the right time. There's nothing to hurry. There's nothing to worry. It's in each individual's hands. So why do they fail at the moment? I could say because they haven't failed enough yet in order to make the next step, or because they didn't take— they didn't see the lesson yet from that failure. I don't know. I don't know. There are so many different reasons why people then do not continue. But it's just a question of time until they will.
Rule number 3 is pay attention with David Meltzer.
I saw The Secret a year ago. I was not someone who believed in the— I didn't even know, I didn't understand the ability to manifest. I had never heard conceptually about that. So for me, I was just exposed to this a year ago, and I thought, there's nothing I can lose here by writing down what I'd like to manifest and then taking it to the next level and then trace it and then speak it into existence. And learning about, opening your mind to learn about all these things has a domino effect. Wouldn't you agree that you start finding yourself having contact with other people who are masters in this or experts in this?
Well, that's 'cause there's a mathematical formula to this that I try to break things down to a really simplistic level. So what we pay attention to, and then we give it intention, creates the coincidences in our lives. And coinciding's a mathematical term to me. It's not an accident. It's two things that are perfectly coming together at a perfect time, the right way at a perfect time. So I'm very cognizant of what I pay attention to and the intention I give it so that I get the coincidences that I want in my life. And it really works as a mathematical equation. And I make it a consistent, persistent practice to pay attention to the right things. Now, here's where it takes another level for me is I thought about faith. You know, like, I'm going to put faith in this. And that got really confusing because I aggregated what I think, say, do, and believe. And I even started looking at the unconscious competencies, my genetics of personality. Personality traits, characteristics, obsessions, and addictions, and how all these things were my faith. No religious context at all. Then I met a guy who wrote Atomic Habits, James Clear, and he talked about voting. And I started saying, faith is like voting. I'm just gonna vote for what I want. And biggest mistakes in my life, I'm always voting for what other people want for me, and then I'm pissed off when I get it, and I'm resentful when I get it. And I'm just very hard now. I know what I'm voting for, and I know it's going to be elected into my life. And so I keep I'm voting for what I want, and if my mind tells me something that I don't want, I don't vote for it. And I see so many people voting for what they don't want and then really upset or resentful or offended when they get it, or even surprised. And so I think all of these things combined together, combined to voting is what I'm paying attention to. The intention's the action, right? So it's not just paying attention and saying, I want this, or thinking about it. It's actually get off your butt. Don't sit at home high on your mom's couch sick. Do something about it. Be efficient, effective, productive, and accessible. We were talking earlier, I heard you, Dave doesn't like busy. No, I hate busy. Busy means inaccessible. I'm active. I have activity I get paid for, activity that I don't get paid for. I'm productive and accessible. I provide value and I'm accessible to what I want and accessible to others.
Also, to make sure you're actually taking action after watching this video, I've designed a special free worksheet just for this video. The worksheet will highlight our favorite lessons from the video that will inspire you to remember what you learned today and actually apply them. The worksheet will also give you space to write down what your key takeaways are and your specific plan of action to make sure you're getting results. If you want the worksheet designed specifically for this video, absolutely for free, there's a link in the description below. Go click on it and start building the momentum in your life and your business. I'll see you there. Rule number 4 is manifest correctly with Mel Robbins.
Your brain doesn't know the difference between an event that you have closed your eyes and imagined and an event that you've actually done. And so here's what's really cool. What I just told you is manifesting. Seriously, manifesting done correctly is when you use your procedural memory as a tool to train your brain, your nervous system, your spirit to help you feel motivated and to help you do the work that actually changes your life. How cool is that? I want to be very clear about something. You know, manifesting gets a bad rap because of the Law of Attraction, but manifesting is not woo-woo at all. It's not a cheesy topic. Manifesting is not just think about something that you want and suddenly it'll magically appear.
No, no, no, no, no.
Manifesting is when you use your procedural memory and you visualize the step-by-step-by-step actions that you need to take in order to make your big goal, or the thing that you want, or the new habit to become a reality. You see, manifesting isn't the end, everybody. Manifesting is the bridge It's the series of actions that you're gonna take in order to have this new habit.
Rule number 5 is pay the switch cost with Jon Aceraf.
That conscious effort to change a behavior makes us uncomfortable, even though it may be good for us.
Right.
It makes us uncomfortable for a day, 7 days, 20 days, 30 days. That period of time is what we call the switch cost. And if people understand that you've got to do something for about 66 days, not 20 days, not 40, but the latest research says that to, to, to make the switch cost stick, commit to at least 66 days, and your brain will then take what you have to consciously think about, what you constantly have to put effort towards doing, it'll make it automatic so you don't have to think about it anymore. And So the first part is whatever goal you want to achieve, first ask yourself, am I prepared to pay the switch cost?
Yeah.
To be uncomfortable long enough to make my new thoughts, my new emotions, and my new behaviors the default, the new default.
Yes.
Because once it's the new default—
It's like the browser that's set on your computer.
It's the automatic. Automatic.
Yes.
And if you think about our lives, most of what we do is automatic.
Yes.
We don't deviate very much from when we wake up, when we go to sleep, what we watch, what we eat, where we exercise, who we hang out, what clothes do we wear. We're pretty much creatures of habit.
Yes.
The key is most of the habits that people have— like, I'm referring to habits as emotions, thoughts, and behaviors, right? Are geared towards helping you achieve exactly what you are achieving right now. And for those of you that don't think that you are committed, you are to those results.
Yes.
To those of you who don't think you are disciplined, yes, you are to those thoughts and feelings and behaviors, right? The key is to become committed, more committed to your new vision, whether it's your body, your relationship, your health, your business and then pay the switch cost long enough to make that the new you.
And rule number 6, the last one before some very special bonus clips, is practice positive affirmations with Rhonda Byrne.
So for affirmations, say them every day or every second day depending on how quickly you want to change life. You can say them at night just before you go to sleep, or you can say them in the morning. And you know what, you can say them mentally or you can say them out loud. Sometimes it's good to feel try and feel yourself, which feels the most powerful for you, just saying them mentally or saying them out loud. I mean, I tend to say them mentally, but if you were saying them mentally, watch that the mind doesn't just like skip over them. Watch that you really, really like giving them a good emphasis. But I mean, I, I still do affirmations. I do health affirmations. I do all kinds of affirmations. And And so they're just great. You know, it's just a great thing to do.
I used to struggle a lot with manifesting, just the idea of it. I would watch videos on it and I didn't understand what they were saying. I didn't— I just didn't understand it. Whether it's manifesting, a lot of attraction, like, what are they saying? I don't understand the words that are coming out of your mouth. And I would rewind it and watch again. It's like, I don't get it. I don't understand. I don't— I don't understand. And it seemed weird, silly, not good enough for me to just sit on a couch and think about money coming into your wallet or whatever it was that you're trying to manifest. You got to go do something. That in law of attraction, you know, action is at the end of attraction. Like, you got to go off and do the work. If that's been you, if you've been kind of struggling with manifesting or law of attraction, you don't know how it makes sense. You rewind videos and it feels too woo-woo for you, let me, let me, let me explain it from a different perspective and, and maybe it'll help. At least this is what's helped me. The first thing that I realized is very scientific is from the reticular activating system. This is part of your brain that decides what to pay attention to and what to not pay attention to. There are so many things that are happening right now all around you that you are not paying attention to. Most things your brain filters out. The job of the reticular activating system— you can go look it up, RAS— is to filter out most things and only filter in the things that you should care about. So for example, you know, what color are your socks today? What color is your underwear today? You know, looking down this street and, you know, I didn't know that there was a pine tree here. What are you paying attention to as you look out the window? You're looking at the tree, you're looking at the sign here, you're looking at the driveway, you're looking at the color of the sky, you're looking at the house, you look at what material that might be. You're not looking at anything because it's too blurry. You're still looking at my face. You're looking at my car. You're looking at the color of the headrest. You're looking at my outfit. Like, what are you paying attention to? Most things you're ignoring because there's no possible way to pay attention to everything. Pay attention to the dog. Justana, hello. Good girl. Right, we're ignoring most things because it wouldn't serve you. It's just impossible. It'd be information overload. If you feel like you're overloaded already, just imagine if you took in absolutely everything. So your eyes are bringing it in and your brain is filtering out most of it. So what does your brain actually pay attention to? Well, the reticular activating system will choose to say, okay, you've set an intention, right? I want to pay attention to X. And now all of a sudden you're going to see that more often. I just bought a house, so in that process we started paying attention a lot more to houses. So one of the things I noticed was the for sale sign here, where I may have not noticed that as much in the past. But because I'm thinking house, boom, now I'm paying attention to the for sale sign. You ever notice when you buy a car, you start seeing that car everywhere, right? Or even thinking about buying a car, you're thinking about buying an X, You start seeing it on the street more often. Why? That's your reticular activating system basically saying, I want to pay attention to those things. So that car was still around, right? I mean, I got this car, we've got a Porsche, and now I see Porsches more often. Those Porsches still existed. They were already there. I just didn't notice them before. And now I notice them because I have one, right? So whatever it is that you want, whatever it is that you're setting intention towards, it's not just sit on your couch and meditate and imagine money coming into your wallet or a new car or a new house or business growth or you speaking on stage or whatever your goals are, right? It's not just sitting on it and visualizing it, but it's noticing it and the elements of it in your environment that when you start thinking about it Right? We are what we consistently think about. When you start thinking about it, you'll start seeing opportunities around you that were already there. You just filtered it out because you didn't see how it connected. Now your brain's starting to make those connections. Does that make sense? Reticular activating system. You're ignoring most things, but when you set intention on the thing that matters to you, you'll start seeing it in your environment and opportunities for that to happen. Happen a lot more often. So that's step number 1, reticular activating system. It's a science. Number 2 is to trust your intuition more. One of the things that really held me back early on in my career was I judged myself too harshly for the ideas that I came up with. And as soon as I came up with an idea, I was like, oh, you can't do that. Or I had to have the perfect plan before I would ever take any kind of action on it. And, you know, just later realized that I like proving things. Maybe I'm a skeptic, I don't know. But in running those experiments, I proved to myself that, yeah, great ideas do flow through me. And so the next time I have a great idea, I'm gonna go and take action on it. So number 1, reticular activating system. It's already in your environment, you're just ignoring it. But if you put attention towards it, you start seeing it, like you notice in new car. When you buy your new car, you see that car everywhere. And then number 2 is trust that good ideas flow through you. Number 3 is the one that I'm working on, that I'm having the hardest time with, and I, I believe it, and I'm trying to— I'm in the process of getting better at it— is when you're thinking about creating something to talk to yourself in the present moment. And this is something that a lot of the manifestation, a lot of attraction people talk about, but also people like Grant Cardone talk about it. That is, it's not just the people you'd associate with it, but other people who've had a lot of success where you're talking about whatever thing is that you want, that it's, that it's already happened, that it's not going to happen in the future. But that it's already happened. You know, if your goal is to speak on stage, then you're visualizing and you're telling yourself, I am, I am on stage, I am speaking to, I am speaking to a million people, or that's a giant stadium. I am speaking to 70,000 people. You know, I am, I am the author of a bestselling book. I am like, whatever your goal is. And what I think the point of that is, is yes, one, to see yourself accomplishing big things. Two, to not have it be so far away that it lets you off the hook for taking action. But I think most importantly is for you to feel what it feels like to be that. And the more you feel like it feels like to be that, the more it actually becomes true. If your goal is to speak on stage in front of 5,000 people and you actually feel like you're doing it, you can visualize yourself being on stage and doing it. The goal, I think I'm still working through this. So 1 and 2, I've got down. 3 is my progress and my journey. So sharing with you, if you feel like you're doing it, if you are on stage and there's 5,000 people clapping for you and cheering you, you just gave the best speech, you know, of your life so far, and you feel what it feels like to walk off that stage and what a gift that you gave people, that the more comfortable you get with that feeling, the more it's going to be you and the more that's going to show up. Does that make sense? So whatever it is that you are trying to accomplish, whoever it is that you're trying to be, whatever your big goals are, that you imagine yourself already having done it. And this is probably not something that I would tell other people, you know, like, oh yeah, I'm a, I'm a, I'm a, you know, I'm a speaker in front of 70,000 people because, because I haven't spoken at a stadium that big. But to yourself, at least to say it, to see it, to feel it, to do it. If you're trying to heal yourself, like, okay, I am healthy, but look, I've got a belly, or I've got a, you know, whatever. I am healthy. I am healthy. And visualizing yourself being healthy because you want the feeling of what it feels like to be healthy. And the more you feel like you are healthy and you capture that feeling the more frequently you're in there, the more likely it's going to show up. So that's probably not the most articulate way to share it, and I'm still working my way through it as well. So as I keep getting better and keep learning, I'll keep sharing with you. But I used to think like manifestation, law of attraction was way out there stuff that, that I judged and that I didn't understand and that didn't make any sense, like just go off and Take action, guys. And with time and experience and exposure and practice, um, using the reticular activating system to notice things around me, by trusting that great ideas flow through me and following through and building momentum, and by talking to myself in the present moment as if I am that person that I want to become so I can capture that feeling and know what it feels like to be that person. I've shifted and seen some pretty amazing results in my life and business, and I hope it can work for you too.
Broadening your awareness starts to create brain coherence, and when the brain starts functioning in a more orderly and coherent way and it begins to synchronize and those different compartments of the brain start working together, there comes a moment where the two hemispheres of the brain start to synchronize into balance. And the union of polarity, the union of opposites, the union of duality is called wholeness. And now we are creating from wholeness instead of from lack or separation. And this is where it gets exciting, because when a person does this properly and they can practice it, our research shows that people can change their brainwaves in 1 second, in 4 seconds, in 5 seconds, in 12 seconds, 13 seconds and 19 seconds.
Why?
Because they understand the process of getting beyond themselves. So why is that important for you? Because up until this point, whether you know it or not, you have been in the process of practicing brain coherence, the first part of the formula. And so when you open up your awareness in your next meditation, I'm going to ask you, as if you had no eyes No ears, no body to feel, to smell, to taste, as if you were just an awareness. I'm going to ask you to sense this blackness, and I'm going to ask you to sense its depth. I'm going to say, how far can your awareness go into endless space? And all I want you to do is sense its infinite depth. I'm going to ask you to become aware that there's infinite blackness on both sides of you. And all I want you to do is broaden your focus and to sense it, to feel it, to stay connected to it. And the act of opening your awareness and sensing space slows your brainwaves down. I'm going to ask you to become aware that there's infinite space behind you, and the act of sensing that infinite space behind you causes your brain to start to fire more orderly. We've measured this thousands of times. And as if you were just an aware awareness in that blackness, I'm going to say to you, now it's time to become nobody, no one, no thing, nowhere, and no time, and take your attention off of everything known and to invest it into the unknown. And like investing into a bank account, the longer you linger in the unknown, the more you create possibilities in your life. And if you find your mind returning to your body to your pain, to your drives, to your emotions, to your habits, to thinking about certain people or objects or places or things in your known predictable reality, to thinking about the familiar past or the eventual future. Simply become aware that your attention is on the known, investing back into this three-dimensional reality. Stop, relax, return back to the present moment and unfold. Fold back into possibility, into the blackness.
You say that we have to master the concept of the present moment.
What does that mean?
Well, there's so much talk about the present moment and being present in the power of now, but most people, um, they spend the majority of their life, 95% of the time, either living by some past emotion or some past habit or anticipating the future based on the past. And so we're very rarely in the present moment. And, and paying attention is being present, and it's a skill just like anything else. The more you practice it, the better you get at it. So think about it. If feelings and emotions are the end product of past experiences, and you can remember experiences better because you can remember how they feel, if you wake up in the morning and you have to search for the familiar feeling called you every morning, and, and that feeling is unhappiness or frustration or lack or insecurity or fear, the moment you get in touch with that emotion, you're starting your day from the past because the emotion is a record of the past. Now, if that emotion is connected to memories that are mapped neurologically in your brain of certain people at certain places at certain times with certain things, then the moment you feel that emotion, you associate that emotion with the past memory then you're activating circuits in your brain from the past. So if how you think and how you feel creates your state of being, and thoughts are the vocabulary of the brain and feelings are the vocabulary of your body, then your entire state of being is in the past. And most people are living in the past, so their body is their unconscious mind, and it doesn't know the difference between an experience in their life that creates an emotion emotion and an emotion that they're creating by thought alone. To the body, it's exactly the same. So those emotions start driving people's thoughts, and if they can't think greater than how they feel and feelings have become the means of thinking and they believe that their thoughts have something to do with their destiny, then they're thinking in the past. So they're creating more of the same life, and by the same means, if they wake up in the morning and they come back to their senses and they start out with the same routine that they did yesterday, and they're going through a series of routine habits of going to the toilet, making coffee, eating breakfast, taking a shower, driving to work the same way, then we could say for the most part, a person's future is nothing more than a replication of the past, and they're not in the present moment. And if they keep doing that over and over again, that becomes a habit. And a habit is a redundant set of automatic, unconscious thoughts, behaviors, and emotions that's acquired through frequent repetition. A habit is when you've done something so many times the body has become the mind. So for most people, their body is dragging them into a predictable future, and they're on autopilot based on what they've done in the past, and they've lost their free will to a program.
I think anybody who is alive right now, who is engaged in life, has noticed a quickening taking place. In other words, everybody feels like more things are happening in a shorter amount of time. So there's an acceleration, and time is a construct in our mind. There's no circuitry, there's no hardware in our brain to be able to understand time. It's a construct based on our past and how we predict the future. But information is so readily available in our world right now that in an age of information, ignorance is a choice. So you don't need an authority to gain information any longer. You don't need a priest, you don't need a governor, you don't need a doctor, you don't need a teacher. You can access information at your fingertips. So then as you begin to discern the information with discernment, the proper and right information, you begin to develop some type of empowerment because all of a sudden you're seeing possibilities that you never saw before without that information. So you wake up, you become more aware. So the knowledge creates awareness, awareness creates consciousness, consciousness and energy are connected. So there's a change in energy globally going on with the world. Now that knowledge and that change of energy has effects on paradigms that are no longer a vibrational match with that new level of consciousness. So you see political systems unraveling. You see economics, economic systems unraveling. They're unspiral, they're unraveling. Unraveling. They can't sustain themselves with this new energy. You see journalism, the environment, education, religion, medicine, it's all unraveling because something greater has to come as a result of a change in consciousness. Now, no victims here because you and I negotiated from a soul level to be here at this time. This is the time we've been waiting for. This is where it's happening in the Milky Way. This is happening here because there's a true coming of a new consciousness. It's not one person that's coming.
It's a group.
It's a collective consciousness that's emerging. An emergence is one mind, one heart. And the way you control people is you give them misinformation based on emotions. You control people by controlling their emotions. And media and television and advertisement is a great seduction that people can watch the news and get really angry, then change the channel and watch a football game and get very excited, then change the channel and watch a sitcom and laugh, and change the channel and watch a drama. And you can change your emotional state because of technology. So then it means then most people are relying consciously or subconsciously on things outside of them to make them feel a certain way. And so my interest is to provide the proper content of information scientifically to people so that they reason that this is actually possible, then to give them the opportunity to experience that philosophy philosophy and get their behaviors to match their intentions as many ways as I can. Now, if I do that properly, people are going to have new experiences. Experiences are going to change the circuitry in their brain. Learning makes connections, but experience enriches connections. The end product of an experience is an emotion. So when you start feeling worthy, when you start feeling a love for yourself, when you start feeling a love for life, when you start feeling truly grateful, the moment you feel that emotion, you're teaching your body to understand what your mind has understood. And living in stress is when your response to the environment causes you to activate the autonomic nervous system. And when you activate that autonomic nervous system, a branch of it called the sympathetic nervous system, the fight-or-flight nervous system, is mobilizing all of the body's energy all of the body's resources for some danger in the outer environment. Are you with me still? And it mobilizes all this energy to prepare the body to do one of three things: to fight, to run, or to freeze and hide. And so the mobilization and tapping all of the body's resources causes the heart to race, respiratory rate to increase, pupils to dilate, digestive juices to shut down, blood sent to the extremities, the immune system dials up, then dials down. We mobilize all this glucose to have the energy to be able to run, fight or hide. Now, in the short term, that works really well. All organisms in nature can tolerate short-term stress. Human beings, we're a little bit more complex. Sometimes it's not the predator that we're afraid of, it's the person someone sitting next to us at work. Sometimes it's the news. Sometimes it's a reaction to someone or something. And the constant knocking the brain and body out of balance causes that imbalance to become a new balance, and now the person is headed for some type of breakdown, some type of disease, because no organism can live in that state, emergency state, for an extended period of time.
The sense of being an outsider is also something that I have had throughout my life, and the sense of not belonging here, watching my parents being engaged in continuous conflict, not because they were bad people. They were— they did what they did, and they loved me as best they could, and they did what they did as a reflection of their state of consciousness at that time, which was a normal state of consciousness, egoic state of consciousness. But I sometimes felt 'How did I get here? Somehow, there must have been a mistake.' It's often outsiders, feeling an outsider on the one hand seems a terrible limitation that you can't participate, as much. On the other hand, it's a great opportunity because some of the most creative people in the world have been outsiders. They did not fit in. Misfits is the English word, misfits. Now, the friendships I had When I was a child, and that's another interesting thing, I had a friend, one of my friends was severely physically disabled, and nobody else wanted to be friends with him because of that, and he was probably my closest friend, and the other one was so weird that nobody wanted to talk to him. But he became my friend. So they were outsiders too. And, but the interesting fact here, as you know, I couldn't believe it when they told me that there are people here from 70 countries. It seems almost unbelievable, but it's true. I saw the list. 70 countries. And you may find, I'm sure you will find, quite often you can feel a bond or you have more in common with many of the people who are here than you have with your own people in your own country at home who are not going through any spiritual awakening, who are still totally conditioned 100% conditioned by their culture. So you feel a connectedness here with other humans that transcends culture and conditioning and all this silly political stuff. It transcends that, and this is a wonderful thing. So to some extent, you can now connect with people even if you don't always see them physically. You might live, I don't know whether you live in a big city or a small a small city. Small city. Yeah. What city?
Innsbruck in Austria.
Ah, yes. Nice, very nice. I don't know how many people in Innsbruck are.
120,000.
And how many of those are awakening? We don't know. We don't know, of course. But this helps, I believe, being here and feeling you are not alone. You are connected. So this should be a help for the rest. You just have to accept that this is how it is. And no matter how hard you try to fit in on the normal level, you probably won't. Not you have to. So I know there are many people here who feel that, and be happy with it. But don't make it into some kind of superiority, because the ego can always creep in. Before you know it, there's always a back door, and then the ego is back in. So you could go from feeling bad about being an outsider to suddenly feeling Okay, I'm an outsider because I'm superior. And then, so we have to be careful, don't go there. So, that's just how it is. You probably would not be here if you had not felt like an outsider for many years. So, it worked. Certain actions take place, you do things, you know, they're not the optimal things to do, but you can't help it. It's something acts through you. There seems to be some power there that makes you do things that you know are not right or not good for you, and yet you can't stop it. That seems to be the case. And that, of course, is often the case with people who are— with you, it might be many different areas of your life, but this is also the case with addictions, for example, people who are addicted to a certain substance. or who are addicted to eating too much or drinking, there's something that overpowers them in you that seems to obscure the awareness, or the awareness is pushed to the side, and this thing, this powerful thing does it anyway. And again, my answer is a little bit similar to what I said to the first questioner tonight. The power of presence needs to grow in you so that it is strong enough not to— it's not willpower because willpower is not the best way of dealing with these things. But what I'm talking about could sometimes be confused with willpower, but willpower includes the application of a force to hold something down. Let's say if your addiction is to indulge in intoxicating beverages, in other words, booze is the British word, then, and you can feel it, it comes on, there it comes, you know the bottles are there, there they are, and you feel you have to go there and you have to reach out and you have to pour yourself a drink. Now, when you're not aware at all, you don't even know what you're doing, you're so unconscious that you're already holding the drink and you're drinking then at that point you don't even know that you're drinking. The same with food. I've spoken to people who have had addictions to food. They often say they wake up when they've already eaten in the middle of the night. They've already unconsciously gone to the fridge, taken out the chocolate cake, and then they're already halfway through the chocolate cake when suddenly they're like, what am I doing? But so awareness comes in at a very late point. Willpower would be to hold an urge down. Let's say, I've got to have the pull, or even what the example you gave, you want to turn on the TV, and you know it's not right because I'm not here for that, and he actually told us not to do it. But I can't help it. I have to go. I can't, I can't. No willpower, you would say, I'm going to hold this down. I'm not going to do it. And I can feel the urge, but you're holding it down. When you hold things down, Often after a while, an explosion happens. It's like a boiling kettle, can't hold it for that long. And then you have some kind of rationalization in your mind why you do it anyway. The mind will give you a reason. First, you see the need to be a victim identity, also unfortunately is a form of ego. Because any conceptual identity is a form of ego. And even though you seem to be amply justified in having a victim identity because of the things that other humans did to you, you yourself are finding yourself in a kind of prison created by your mind. So there's no denial of that bad things happen to you, yes. Now, question is, how do you exit this mental prison? The first step is perhaps to see that unconscious human beings, unconscious human beings in the grip of their own conditioning, their own ego, they have virtually no free will. When you are unconscious, you are controlled by the mind patterns that are lodged in your psyche. You cannot really speak of free will by somebody with zero awareness, and yet their entire makeup is conditioning from the past. So, the famous sentence, phrase used by Jesus in connection with forgiveness on the cross, he said, "Forgive them, for they know not what they do." Now, these two interesting— these points put together, forgive them, why forgive them? They know not what they do. In other words, if he had spoken these days using our terminology, he probably would have said they are completely unconscious, because that's what it means, they know not what they do, they are completely unconscious. So when you see nobody can act beyond their level of consciousness, —then you see that it's almost like, it becomes almost like the evil that was perpetrated becomes almost like a natural phenomenon. That is, like you've been hit by lightning or something, or lived in very unpleasant climatic conditions that injured you, near a volcano, My dad had problems with anger, huge outbursts of anger quite frequently. It was like living next to a volcano that could erupt at any moment. And he could not help it. It was impossible. There was no possibility of being different. And so these humans are run by unconscious conditioning, usually goes back to their childhood and what happened there. I know why my father was angry. I realized much later that it all originated in his childhood, the reasons why he was so angry. And also, for a while, also I felt resentment towards that. And only when I was able to awaken out of egoic consciousness, I saw that there's nothing that he could have done differently because there wasn't enough awareness. Now, when you see that, then you don't personalize or you don't create an identity for other humans out of their unconsciousness because in essence that that's not who they are. The recognition that— there's first recognition, then step one, you recognize that no human can act beyond their conditioning in the absence of awareness. If there's awareness, they can transcend their conditioning, and then they begin to become conscious of their own conditioned, mentally-emotional, dysfunctional mentally-emotional patterns, yes. So they couldn't, they can't help it. So that's already a useful step in forgiveness, but you may not yet be able to arrive at full forgiveness because of that. Another, before I continue with that, Does that mean then, a question may arise in your mind, does that mean then humans are not really responsible for what they do? If they are unconscious, how are they responsible? And does that mean then that we shouldn't punish them for what they do? If they commit a crime, are they not guilty? That's an interesting question. The unconsciousness that operates in human, even if you are able to forgive a human, and we'll go more fully into that in a minute, even if you're able to forgive a human for their transgressions or whatever they did, this does not mean, and even though the human is not responsible for their unconsciousness, and yet it is built into the structure of human life. They still need to suffer the consequences of their unconsciousness. Usually happiness exists as part of the play of opposites. You experience the happiness because something makes you happy, and then that thing that made you happy either leaves you or the very thing that made you happy suddenly makes you unhappy. Marriage, for example, or a relationship. Before you start living together, you're happy. When you start living together, you're unhappy. So what is— if it's not happy, what are we talking about? The— there's a— if you let go of thinking and remain as the awareness, then there is in that awareness emanates a certain peace, alive peace, joy, peace, a peaceful, joyful sense of aliveness. Inner peace may be a better word than happiness. But one would have to add to it, it's an alive peace. It's not the peace of having deadened yourself to emotions or anything like that. It's an alive, intensely alive peace. You can sense it, even if it's only just a glimpse right now. Surrender thought. And of course, right now, if you're not thinking about the problems of your life, there are no problems in this moment. There's only a sense of beingness or liveness. And that is the connectedness with being. And so you transcend the opposites between happiness and unhappiness.
The reason so many people aren't productive throughout the day is not only because they don't have their purpose and their psychology and their physiology supporting them, but also because they're going through the day in an ignorant way. You know, they're going through the day focused solely on responding to everybody else's emergencies. You know, here's what most people do. They wake up, they get ready for the day, they go through the— they go to work. They're not really thinking about anything yet. They're just kind of going through the motions. They get to work, and what do they do? They open up their email inbox, which is the worst thing you could ever do to be productive. Your inbox is a nice organizing system of other people's agendas. That's what an inbox really is. It's a nice organizing system. Other— every email in there is someone needing something from you or pulling from you. That's what most of them are, isn't it true? And so what most people do is they open up their inbox their inbox and they start responding to other people's emergencies, or they start, they start looking through all their emails to see, well, what am I supposed to do today? Or what's the biggest fire I have to fight today? In other words, they're living their life in reaction versus living their life in intention, in intelligence, in direction. They're not focused on what to do throughout the day. They're just saying, well, I'll do this because that's what opped up today. You know, so for personally, I never even check email until 10 AM. When I get up and I'm looking at everything, I sit down and I strategize my day before I ever even think about checking my email. And then I might only check my email once or twice a day because I set up all other systems to support my ability to be productive. Because in your life, I'm guessing that you're only really making money if you're producing. And in my my industry, I live in the experts industry. That's the sort of the self-help, spirituality, business growth world where we offer advice to other people about how they can improve their life or build their business. That's the expert industry. In the expert industry, most people are really struggling to be productive because we're creatives, right? We have so many great ideas and so many great intentions throughout the day, and we have so many ideas we can never actually accomplish them. Maybe you're the same. Maybe at base You're really a creator, and you have all these ideas of so many things you want to do, but you've never really been able to organize them and get them done because you haven't set up systems to support your levels of productivity. Let's start with the beginning of your day. I'm going to just jump into one little thing that I do at the beginning of the day. It's not the very beginning, but I think it will help you, and it's a way of organizing my day. And I call this one-page productivity. It's just a simple sheet of paper that I have that I fill in when the morning after I've gone out and I've exercised, that's a piece of my morning activity is mastering my physiology so I can become a high performer, starts with me drinking lots of water in the morning, eating the right things, going for a little quick run or workout or even just a brisk walk to energize my body and my mind so that I can be creative and think. And when I get back to my office and it's time to actually work, I do this one-page productivity sheet. And this one-page productivity sheet helps me really think through what I need to do throughout the day. So here's the 3 elements of this, and by the way, below this video you can download this sheet and you can use it on your daily life. Let me walk you through how to use it. Basically, there's 3 elements of the one-page productivity. The first element is major projects. These major projects usually— if you— any given person probably has has, oh, I don't know, you know, like 3 big buckets of projects that they're working on. So I might be working on, you know, writing a new book. I might be working on doing a new seminar. I might be working on, you know, reinvigorating my online marketing. Those are big, big— these are big bucket projects that aren't necessarily— they're not the priorities for the day. These are the big vision. These connect me to the— what are the big things I'm doing? And any given person, if they're well organized, they're probably only working on 3, maybe 5 main projects. So what I want you to do when you start out in the morning, to keep you thinking big and thinking outside of just the day, to focus is, you know, and in the High Performance Academy we've already talked about purpose, so we're already engaged there, okay? This is just a little snippet. I want you to think about the big picture of your projects, and I want you to think about what are the 5 things that you would have to do to move these projects forward. This is not 5 things that you need to move them forward today. That's your priorities. Your projects are just in general. What are the big things that you need to do? The big 5 things that you would have to do. So for example, if online marketing is one of my big projects in reinvigorating, one of the things I might have to do is learn to code a web page, right? Or learn to design a web page. Now that's a project. It doesn't mean that today I'm going to learn how to do it. It just means in general that's one of the things I will have to do. So these are— what are the 5 big things you would have to do to actually make that project come into fruition? What would you have to learn? What would you have to go out and master? What would you have to— who do you have to contact? What are the things you would have to do for your big projects? Next is people category. In this people category, I want you to think of 2 things in the people category. The people category is really important for high performers, 'cause high performers really get ahead not just because of who they know, but how they're engaging who they know, right? What they're asking for, what they're doing. So the people category that I want you to think of each morning on this one-page productivity is 2 categories. One, I want you to sit down and think of who do you need to reach out to today? Who do you need to reach out to? So if I want to learn coding, as an example, in general, I might want to schedule some time with a coder or web designer. So I'm like, I'm gonna have to reach out to a coder or web designer today. And this is important because most people, when they open up their inbox, they just start replying to all these things. When I open my inbox, the first thing I do is I send out these emails, people I need to reach out to. It's the first thing that I do when I open my inbox. As an example. Very first thing is send out all the emails of people I need to reach out to. The second category here is the people that you are waiting on, right? Given any person's real schedule, you're waiting on somebody to give you some information or a decision to move forward in your day. Isn't it true? You're waiting on something from somebody so that you can move forward forward. And most people, they just sit there and they wait for the email to pop up. They, they hope that it's going to come. They don't do anything about it. Second thing I do when I open my inbox after I reach out to the people, I reach out to the people who I'm waiting on and I say something specific to them. So let me give you an example of how this actually might operationalize in a day. When I open my inbox, I'll look in my emails for these people first and foremost. It's the first thing I'll do. I send out the ones I need to reach out to strategically, I'll say, who am I waiting on? I'll look at and I'll open up their inbox or open up their email to see if I got what I needed. If I didn't, I send an email right back to them to make sure I get what I need as fast as possible. So yes, there's an element of you hounding people to become productive. You know, most people are just sitting around waiting for other people to help their dreams come true. For me, I'm chasing people down. Right? You know, I want to— for high performers, there's a level of impatience there. You know, if you want to become a high performer, you've got to have this level of impatience that says, I need to accomplish this, I need to do this, let's go, let's go, let's go. You need to be on a faster path in life. Not stressed out more, but more focused on achieving what you need to do to become happy, to become successful. Not just because someday that's going to happen for you, but in the moment, in the moment, being happy and successful so that you can be. Happy and successful. Hope that makes sense. Ultimately, that's the people category. Then the next category is the priority category. Okay, your priority category is what are the 10 things that you've got to accomplish today. These are the 10 must-do items. This is sort of like your to-do list, but it's ranked in order of most importance. It's very simple, right? Because to-do lists are great, I'm all for them, all for day planners because it helps you achieve some of these things. But at the end of the day, you got to think about, okay, what are my real priorities today? And here's what I'll often do depending on how big these are and how important they are. When I get to my— when I've written all these out, here's how my day works. Here's the order of things that I'll achieve throughout the day. First, I'll do whatever it takes to achieve these priorities, whether it is sending an email or whether it is, you know, running an errand or whether it's calling somebody. These priorities in my day happen first, often before I even open my inbox, or if I have to open my inbox, I'll wait. But priorities first, accomplish these first, no matter what. These get done first before I respond to anybody else's emergency or go through all my inbox. These first. Then I move up. Second, I'll go, okay, who am I waiting on and who do I need to reach out to? The people category. I'll do that. Now, often this will take most of the entire day. And then I'll say, if there's any given time left in the day, I'll focus back on the bigger projects, thinking about what it's going to take to accomplish them.

One of the things that helped me really revolutionize my life, age 25, was learning how to set goals.
Decide what you want, write it down, start checking them off. Where do you want to go? Make that list. Go for the discipline because it weighs ounces.
