So I'm about to go on a trip to Asia for— how long are we going for? 16 days? 16 days going to Hong Kong, Shanghai, South Korea, Japan, Beijing, and then coming back home. And today's day 0 because we're leaving tomorrow, and I thought I would document the process and some of the fun things that I learned along the way. And so So day 0, what do we do? We pack. You gotta pack and get everything ready. Now I'm a super light packer. I wanna show you what I packed here. It's looking pretty sparse. So we're going for 16 days. I'm bringing 4 black Uniqlo shirts and 1 white shirt for my dress top. Uh, 5 pairs of underwear, 5 socks, 1 pair of pants. Now these are wrinkle-free and super pliable and super comfortable, but they look like business pants. Who makes these things? Haggar. I love Haggar stuff. Awesome. Bathing suit, pair of pants that have detachable shorts there, dress shirt for the one or a couple nights we're gonna have on the, on the ship that are formal. But my goal is to make everything fit in that backpack. I am a minimalist packer. I hate having luggage that then you're sitting there waiting and you're just carrying stuff around forever and ever and ever. So I brought enough for 5 days and then I'm going to do some laundry washing and wear it all again. What else do I have? I've got my passports. One of the things that bothers me about Asia is the currency. Look at all the money that I have to bring. So when you go to Europe, there is one currency, right? The Euro. That is all you need to have. Here I'm bringing— so I got, you know, I got the US dollars. Fine. I got US dollars. Okay, what is next? I got more US dollars. I'm bringing some Canadian dollars with me just in case. US is good to travel with all over the place. But then I got Chinese dollars or whatever it is. We've got Korean won. This is pretty funky. Look at this one. Hong Kong. Hey babe, have you seen the Hong Kong money? Yeah. It's awesome. That's pretty funky. I'm like, look at this one. Yeah, it's new. Yeah, it's nice. We've got more Hong Kong money. I don't know, it's too much money. Like, I'm carrying all this cash with me. We gotta get Asia on one currency so it'll be a lot easier. And then this I wear. This is a little ear patch you put behind the ears so that I don't get seasick on the cruise ship. We have 2 days at sea in a row, so I get a little nauseous sometimes. Camera, boarding pass. Anyway, it's all gonna fit in that backpack, including— Hi, Nina. —including this video camera so I can document the whole thing. Yeah, I love doing stuff, minimalist lifestyle. You know, I had a 5,000 square foot custom home and sold it and moved into a— how big is this place? 1,350 square foot condo and just pared down all my stuff because it just makes life a lot easier to breathe. Nina and I sometimes fight over size of space, but anyway, I like to try to keep things minimal. Here's what I'm going to be wearing tomorrow. Set that aside. I got my stretchy jeans. I've got a shirt and, you know, sweater because it's gonna get cold. I need the jacket. Hey babe, can you help me with my jacket? I need my jacket. The orange jacket. Can you help me? Actually, we've never tried this. So my jacket— you can see the condo is a big mess here. We've got, we've got a pile of snacks all here ready to go. I don't know how we're gonna— I think the snacks will take up more space in the bag than our actual clothes. Can you try taking the jacket and and folding it? Doing it live on the spot. So this jacket that I got is super lightweight and awesome. It's supposed to fold up into that bag so you can transport it easily. Let's try. Okay, Nina's going to try, I'm going to film. Will it fit in the bag? I think you might have to take the bag off of the hook, no? I don't know, we'll see. Here we go. I don't know, does this look like a happy Nina? People, YouTube Nation, is this a happy Nina? She's a special person. Here you go! That is pretty awesome! That is my winter jacket! Brought to you in one easy simple bag. Thank you, Nina. So I'm going to take this. Wow! That is awesome! This is actually surprisingly very, very warm. I'm going to use it for snowboarding. So that's the stuff I'm taking. We have to wake up at 6 in the morning to catch our flight to head off, and then it's, uh, 18 hours or something like that to Hong Kong. We'll see. 14 hours? I just— we just got our flight 4 hours faster. I'm going to document the process, and hopefully you guys enjoy and have some fun along with me. Believe, and we'll see you tomorrow. As I look at myself, I'm thinking, wow, I look so burnt out. It is 6:17 AM. We woke up about 15 minutes ago to get everything ready. The good news is my bag here, uh, I thought was going to be full of my clothes, but everything fit into Nina's carry-on luggage. So my clothes and her clothes are all in there, and my bag has become snack central. So all those snacks that you saw on the table the other day They're all in here. We've got like 5 bags of crackers and snacks and cookies and chips and all sorts of fun stuff. So that's what my bag is all about. So that's going to come back pretty empty. That means we have room to buy stuff. This is my travel pack. Everything goes in here that I need to have organized. So what did I put? Let's see. Can we look in there? I've got my passport, some cards, Visa cards. Driver's license. I put all the Hong Kong money in here because that is our first stop. The rest I'm not going to carry around here. And of course a pen to fill out those forms that you need to do on the airplane. And just in general it is good to have a pen. What I wanted to do— see, last time I went on a cruise I gained a lot of weight because I ate a lot of food. I had like a lot of food. So I thought what I would do is weigh myself now and then weigh myself at the end and see how we're doing. But first we have to say hi to Nina. Hi. Hello, Nina. Are you all excited? Are you super tired? Yes, I'm tired. I woke up at 5. You woke up at 5? What time did you go to bed? Um, 12:30. 12:30 to 5. Right now Nina is very tired and cute. Hopefully doesn't become tired and angry. Let's get her some coffee and we'll see. Here we go. 191.6. That's what we're starting with, and I'll see what I end up with. So my parents are gonna come pick me up up in about 10 minutes. We're gonna finish getting everything ready, cleaning up. I hate coming back to a messy house after vacation, so we cleaned up, took all the garbage out, tidy up a little bit, and then take off for Asia. Here we come, baby! We're here at the airport, about to check in, and we get to miss this huge lineup because we don't have any bags. Only one little suitcase carry-on. Very happy. Let's go in. And as soon as we get in, what are we gonna do, Nina? Get and a Tim Hortons coffee. Booyah! Alright, just came from Tim Hortons. The lineup for Tim Hortons was longer than the lineup to get in the airport. How long did it take? I was there for like 40 minutes or something. It was a long time. Anyway, here it is, the moment we've been waiting for. Iced cap for me, coffee for Nina, double-double. That means 2 creams, 2 sugars for all our American friends. Cheers! Oh yeah, oh yeah, when the sugar hits your blood. Mmm. They were out of eggs, so we have breakfast breakfast bagels. It's not as good. Nina's not happy. She's tired and not happy, but we'll make it. Yay, hooray, yummy everything bagel! All right, cheers. Okay, very exciting, we're on the plane. We are about to take off. Oh, we can't even see anything out there. All right, that's okay. The most important thing we checked out— this is what's going to make or break the trip— is what kind of movies do So let's see what's loaded. Fingers crossed. 14-hour flights movies. Oh, they don't have the foreign language ones. Oh, world maybe. Okay. New releases. Fingers crossed. Fingers are crossed. Give me something good. 3 Days to Kill. Ooh, action with Kevin Costner. Action. Yes. So far so good. What else? Anchorman 2. I don't think I've seen that. Begin Again. I don't know what that is. What's Blended? Okay. Okay, we could do Blended. Adam Sandler, that's not bad. What else we got? Chef, I'd watch that. Oh, Draft Day! You can watch Draft Day again. Draft Day, we watched in the theater, and within the first 15 minutes, this one fell asleep, and then she insisted that we go get it again to watch together. Oh, we're taking off! Take flight.
