Evan's Walt Disney World trip - Day 2 - Magic Kingdom

Evan Carmichael, his partner Nina, and their son Hayden spend a full day at Magic Kingdom in 2015, hitting 15 rides from Seven Dwarfs Mine Train to Buzz Lightyear. They use the Touring Plans app to schedule, grab pizza for lunch, catch the Festival of Dancing parade, and negotiate a souvenir magic key for Hayden.

Good morning! Good morning! The windshield wipers are freaking out. How do I turn off the windshield wipers? It is 7:35. We are late. We were supposed to leave earlier than this. How early? We said we'd be leaving 7:20, but It is? It is 7:35. So we are late.
15 minutes?
Yeah. Which isn't good, but we'll see what we can do. I figure if I drive like crazy, we'll get there. Anyway, we woke up while it was still dark. And there's something wrong with setting an alarm to wake up before you wake up when you're at home. To go to work. But we're here, and we're ready to go to Magic Kingdom. And Hayden's all ready. What do you want to say?
I'm stoning out.
You're stoning out, OK. Here we are everybody! Walt Disney World! With Mickey and Minnie! Disney World! Where dreams come true! Nina and Hayden are going to line up at the Mine Train. There's the castle. And I'm going to get us some coffee. Starbucks! Alright, first up is the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train. What do we think about the Mine Train? Yes! A bit of a fun ride getting here. Nina was in line and then—
I was in line!
And then stepped out of line.
Because I didn't know if you had the FastPass.
So our whole "I'll get the coffee while you stand in line" plan got destroyed because I came here, I come to the front of the line like, "Oh, Nina sent me here. Nina's— what?" And I walk back and Nina's still not there. I'm like, "Oh, Nina's not even in line." It's okay though, we're still here a little bit early. Here we go! We're on the Mine Train! High ho! High ho! High ho! It's off to work we go!
High ho! High ho!
High ho! High ho! Was that fun, Hayden? I want to go again! You want to go again? Uh oh. Gotta deal with this. We'll see how it goes. OK, next up: Winnie the Pooh. Let's see how we do. It says 30 minutes. I'm a little scared about being in the slime. The great thing about the Disney rides are all the fun things you get to do in line to make the lineups go faster. And Nina has her Five Toe Shoes on too. Matching! It's 10 o'clock and Nina has already taken 3,700 steps. It says— oh, it doesn't say "good job." I thought it said "good job." No, it said "goal." It said "goal." My goal is 10,000. Oh, your goal is 10,000. OK, so we're going to hit that. Let's get on board! That's it! That was fun! That was good, huh?
That was all the screens.
Yeah. OK, next up is the Barnstormer with Goofy as the Great Goofini. Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa! Goofy is a crazy driver! Next up is Dumbo! Hayden! Come on this way! This way! Come on! Oh, come on, come on! Come on, silly!
You're going the wrong way.
Go, follow Nina. Here we go. Can you take this with you after the ride? Hayden has this necklace that he wears that he has to give to them so they mark the time. They know how long the line is. So I have to make a quick note. I have to make a quick note about the Touring Plans app. This thing is amazing. So as you go through, you click on the "done" and it leads you to the next thing. It's right now 10:17. And we're supposed to be at Dumbo at 10:31. So we are actually ahead of schedule and rocking it. We haven't had to wait in line too much and highly recommend this app. And this is Nina. Here we go! Whoa! Oh, they're going up! Oh, they're going up! I gotta catch up! I don't know how to control this thing! Oh, here we go! Now I'm going, now I'm going, now I'm going! Now I'm going! I'm catching up!
Yeah! There we go!
I caught up!
Woo!
Alright, next up, Little Mermaid. Next up is the Mad Hatter's Tea Party. Hopefully it doesn't spin too fast because I get dizzy easy. Let's see what happens. Whoa! Focus on you. I'm looking at you. That's it. Hayden is going crazy. Wow, this is so fast.
Help!
How are we feeling? Dizzy? How are you feeling, Hayden? You dizzy? No. No, you're good? Next up for us, the Tomorrowland Speedway. My favorite part is watching Nina and Hayden drive together. It'll be amazing. Here we go. It says don't strike, so I had to of course go and strike them. What do you think, mister? What?
You bumped us.
I did bump you. I did it on purpose too.
It said no bumping.
No bumping?
Yeah.
So why did Daddy bump?
I don't know.
I don't know. I just broke the rules. That's all. All right, last ride before lunch is the carousel. Time to do some horseback riding. Nina's never been on a carousel. This is your first time. Alright, it's lunchtime with Pinocchio. And we're having— what's Eden having? You're having— what are you having? Pepperoni pizza with yogurt and water and grapes. Nina's having an Italian flatbread sub. And I'm having bocconcini something. I'm starving. I'm getting hangry. I'm on the hangry train. Virgin hangry, so I'm gonna get some napkins and dig in. Okay, with good planning and fast eating, we have more time than originally planned, so we're gonna go see It's a Small World. We were supposed to see it the next time on day 3, but we're here— Oh, what? What are you saying?
Daddy's a girl.
Daddy's a girl? Okay, great. Daddy's a girl. Thank you for that in the middle of my video, mister. We're gonna go see It's a Small World, and I'm sure we'll be singing all the way through it.
In a small world after all— Daddy's a girl. Bye-bye.
Welcome to the happiest cruise that ever sailed. Yes! It's a small world after all.
It's a small world after all. It is my world after all. It's a small, small world.
Next up, Peter Pan. And instead of spending 60 minutes in line as it says on the sign there, we get FastPass.
You okay?
Aww, let's kiss it better. Let's kiss this hand better. Was that fun? Yeah. Can you pretend to be Captain Hook? Up next, Mickey's PhilharMagic. Next up, PeopleMover. Next up, Monsters, Inc. Laugh Floor. We're inside at the Monsters, Inc. to learn some comedy. Maybe Hayden's going to tell us a joke.
Knock knock.
Who's there?
Uh, Hayden.
Hayden who?
Hayden makes the lightning crackle.
All right.
All right, hello humans!
Whoa! Next up, Buzz Lightyear. We're going to go inside and shoot a bunch of stuff, so I don't think I'll be able to film much. Are you excited to shoot things? Yeah?
How are you going to shoot it?
How are you gonna shoot?
Let's see.
Boom boom, like that, huh? Yeah, yeah. This is what we're going on. Time to shoot some cannons. Okay, I'm putting the camera away because I gotta dominate. I gotta dominate this cannon race. What is this? I can't shoot anything. Got 76,900. 21,000. 21? How did Hayden do? How did Hayden do?
2,300. 23.
I got 76.
There's Nina and Hayden.
There's me. That's game face right there. That is game face. Hayden with the Evil Emperor Zurg. We are done the ride portion of our day. What time is it?
Maybe 5 to 3?
Almost 3 o'clock. And we're waiting for the new parade that just came out. Festival something. And, uh, so I decided that while we wait, we should get some Starbucks. Because I haven't even had a Starbucks yet today. We're here at the Magic Kingdom. We're waiting for Festival of Dancing. And Hayden is on the phone. Hi. Yeah, what are you playing?
I'm playing that other game.
Field Runner.
Yeah.
Okay, but we wait for the parade. Okay, the parade is about to start. You hear the music, so let's watch. Still enjoying— oh look, Evan! So we're done everything for the day and it's time to go shopping and explore Main Street. And the first thing we stumbled on is this crystal maker who is making crystal here on the spot with this ginormous flame. It's pretty cool. I made a deal with Hayden because when you have kids in a store they want to buy everything. I made a deal with him that he could have one thing from the trip and he's gotta like it 2 days in a row. It's a magic key. It started off as a Wizard Mickey, then it became a magic wand, and now it became a magic key. All in one day! That's it?
Come back, come back.
There you go. Why do you like that key?
Because it's a magic magic key and it has special powers.
What kind of special powers? Lightning!
Wow!
So he has to like it for 2 days in a row and then we'll buy it. But he's probably going to find other things that he likes, so we'll see what happens. Why did you buy the mug?
Oh, because last year I bought one and then chipped. Last year I bought this one. It's really cute. And the back says "Mornings aren't pretty" because I'm not a morning person. And it chipped here, so I need a new one. It's cute. OK. It's a fairy with its morning arms magical.
OK.
But Evan said he doesn't like negative, so I'm going for this one.
It is a little negative. Mini.
Alright.
I can read this. You can read that?
What does it say? It says Disney— There it is. Disney gift card.
Disney gift card! Good job, Mr. Reading at 5 years old, huh? High five for that! Booyah! I've discovered an Evan and a Jason Swiss Army knife. Right below Jason. I love all the fun shirts that you can find here at the stores. Okay, we made it back. What are we going to do?
I don't know.
It feels nice to have the shoes off.
Yeah, my feet are— my toes are starting to hurt. Yeah?
So it's relax, eat, shower.
Yeah.
Maybe 2 showers for me.
Woo! Can you open this?
Oh, and wine! Oh, this is my favorite wine. Barefoot. I'm not a huge wine drinker, but this is really sweet, so we're gonna have some barefoot wine tonight. These are our wine glasses. Okay, here we go. I need, I need to shave too, it's getting long. Okay, cheers. It's like ice wine.
Yeah, and it feels refreshing right now.
Feels refreshing. Oh, oh no, Hayden's hiding. Okay, it's 8 o'clock, it's 8 o'clock. Hayden's bedtime. We're gonna We're gonna have a good sleep, wake up tomorrow, go to Epcot, see Figment, have some fun, some special surprises. Okay, did you have fun today?
Yeah!
What was your favorite part of today?
Roller coasters and Buzz Lightyear!
That was roller coasters and Buzz Lightyear for those of you who couldn't understand him. So we'll see you tomorrow. Bye, good night. So Nina thinks that I need a haircut. So this is me before, and this is the after. What do you think? Self-improvement books are like fitness books— they never work on their own. What you need is a trainer That's Evan.
