We're on our way to Manila, Philippines. There is a typhoon— well, a tropical storm right now that's supposed to be a typhoon. So we are leaving beautiful, no cloud in the sky Tokyo to go spend 5 days in thunderstorms and typhoon Philippines. Nina is going to protect us through all of it. And I can't wait to go. We got our luggage.
Yeah, we need to drop it off.
Our plane looks like it's on time, so let's go.
So Evan was kept telling me about this machine. You could order the rice, medium, small, or large. We're gonna go for a medium, and then the rice is gonna come out here. Oh, and then you get curry, pork curry, on top of the rice. My curry rice is ready. It's yummy. We relaxed at the lounge for a little bit, and then I told Evan I want to come outside and walk around the airport to see what kind of food they have. And I see they have these— I think they're very famous for like melon, the melon cookies. Cookies? Crackers? Cookies? Yeah, with cheese on it.
What?
Evan, you ready? Ready to get on the airplane, fly to Manila? Yeah, you're having a hiccup.
Dealing with the hiccups right now. Yeah, these are the hiccups. Yeah, uh, yeah, I'm excited. It'll be good.
Yep, there it is. Okay, let's go. So it was a chaos. Well, wait, we landed. It was quite a chaos. We were in the taxi car, taxi driver car, taxi car for like almost an hour, but it's only a 20-minute ride to our place. But I need to do my laundry. I told Evan, let's go to convenience store, and I said let's go eat. And we're gonna stop at the most, most popular fast food in Philippines, Jollibee.
To get some fast food. So Nina really wanted to get the mango peach pie from Jollibee. This is what they're famous for, so there it is. Uh-oh, no, no, wah-wah. That's what happens when you go to 24-hour Jollibee. Well, you know what, we'll get you some better food in Philippines. Tomorrow. Okay, turn that frown upside down.
We just finished eating. Like, we were only there for like 5 minutes or something, maybe 10 max.
No, no, 15 minutes.
Okay, fine, 15 minutes. It was not raining when we went in. Yeah, it came out to this.
Yeah, rainy season.
Yeah, coming down pretty hard right now.
You want to go?
Uh, I don't know. Oh, get my hair all wet.
Hey, you want to wait? It'll die down.
Yeah.
Hey, you want to wait?
We ran back.
You didn't tell me. No, I can't film.
I can't film while I'm running and I'm all—
I should have filmed it. I'm all wet. That would have been great. Okay, next time I film it.
It is the next day. You slept great.
You slept great.
No, you slept great.
I slept great? Yeah. I didn't sleep great.
I was being sarcastic.
Oh, okay, sorry.
Yeah, yeah, we slept— we didn't sleep well. All I hear was the rain hitting on the window. That's what rain sounds like.
Yeah, yeah, on the window. No, that's exactly— if I heard that, I would have thought that's rain.
Yeah, right now we're gonna go to a Tim Hortons in the Philippines.
Yeah, so we're meeting our team, some of our team. So we're having lunch with most of our Philippine team. Yeah, we flew a bunch of them in. The ones who were here, they came, and then others we flew win and put them up at a, at a hotel, uh, and then we're gonna have lunch together. It's the first time I'm meeting any of them in person, which is gonna be awesome. But before we do that, we're going to go to a Tim Hortons that's close by. Yeah, Tim Hortons is a legendary Canadian coffee shop that, uh, I can't believe is in the Philippines. So we'll see how good it is, and some of the team is going to meet for coffee as well. So let's see how good it is.
I got a dark roast. Evan just got a regular coffee.
Okay, should we taste it?
Evan, taste it.
We'll try it to see. Okay, okay, the official taste test. Cheers, Nina. Cheers, cheers. Let's see how much of it is this legit Tim Hortons or not. This has crazy sugar in it.
Oh, I asked— I didn't ask for sugar.
Oh, one sugar, one cream. Okay, well then I don't know because I don't usually have sugar in my coffee. Yeah, it's very sweet.
Try mine, try mine. Mine has no sugar. It actually doesn't taste the same. It tastes a little bit different. Yeah, no, no, no, this is not the same.
This isn't Tim's. Neither you're wrong. This is not—
Yeah, I'm wrong.
Okay, it is Tim's, but it's not Tim's. All right, well, we're still gonna enjoy.
Everyone's here.
Hi!
Hi! So, yep, we're at the lunch buffet. It's crazy with the team. Some people are still coming. Yeah, I went to the bathroom. This place is far. It's a good exercise, you know, after you eat.
Oh, the bathroom?
Yeah, yeah, it's like this buffet, it's long and far. Yeah, so if you like, you're gonna show them what exercise— you walk down all the way down and then pick up more food, come back to eat. You have to do squats as you walk.
Yeah. Lunches with your food. Yeah, you're gonna show them the buffet? Yeah, before eating. Okay, let's go.
This is a Filipino, uh, specialty pork.
Okay, this is a must-try.
You have to eat it with the, with the skin too, but try this first. Just try it.
Oh, it's pretty good. Very tasty.
And eat it, take a skin.
Just the skin?
Yeah, it's very crispy.
Just eat this part.
Oh, it's crispy.
Yeah, very crispy.
Do you like it?
Very, very moist.
Yeah, yeah, it's moist. Yeah, we basically just almost finished meeting with our team. Uh, we're going to go back to the area.
It was cool to see everybody. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Haven't met any of them in person, and now we, we got to. Then we, we got a new hire, Anne, who just joined us a couple weeks ago, and she's going to be doing a lot of, uh, operations for us. And so we then spent another, I don't know, 2 hours going through a lot of time flies. I mean, we've met at the Tim Hortons at 10 AM and it's now 5:30 PM. So yeah, time flies when you're having fun and you're with good people. Now we're gonna pick up some hopefully real Jollibee because the first Jollibee yesterday was not great. So we're gonna get some new Jollibee, head back to the Airbnb, pack up, head to our hotel. Nina can tell that story. And I'm gonna meet with Ray and our team. Let's go!
It takes so long to get taxi. So we decide to walk in this crazy weather.
Yeah, 8 minutes away, Nina.
8 minutes. Oh my goodness, we walk halfway already.
Walking in a typhoon, this is what it looks like. Let's go.
We made it back, but I'm all soaked.
Let's go.
Yeah, also, how about you, Evan?
Yep, yep, we walked it, we made it. Yeah, we had, uh our team gave, gave us gifts and stuff, which is unexpected and super nice. Yeah, uh, and one of them was in a—
in a—
put everything in a paper bag that then exploded on me in the middle of the road. Like, get it! And then as I'm trying to save it, the umbrella flips inside out. This is, uh, this is what it's like living in the Philippines with typhoon weather. I love it, it's a great experience. Yeah.
Okay, what are we doing Yeah, I'm gonna, I'm gonna clean up a little bit.
We gotta clean up, head to the hotel, eat some dinner, and continue, continue.
We just, uh, arrived at our new home for the next few days. Look at this entrance here, the flowers. Crazy, that's crazy. That's a lot of sunflower. Evan needs to take a picture by the sunflowers. We got our room.
There's an Evan Carmichael in it!
Oh, hello! This is the boardroom area, and then this is the living room, and then there's Evan Carmichael, and then we look out to the city, which you see, which you see us. Hello! Then you walk over. Where's this? This is a bathroom here, and then the bedroom here.
Wait, you didn't talk about all the crazy marble in here?
What's crazy marble?
Look at the bathroom! Look at the marble!
Holy cow!
You didn't notice?
I didn't notice. You didn't pay attention. I wasn't really paying attention.
Okay, and then you have more marble in here.
What's this one? This one's a shower.
That's a giant shower.
What's this one?
I thought this was a shower.
It's a toilet. Okay, so another toilet. Okay, all right, we're gonna try to settle in. What is— what's over there? This one. Oh, I hate this ledge thing. Why do I always get—
my toe hurts just looking at you right now. Oh, it hurts.
This is just connected to the bedroom. Okay, all right, I'm gonna relax because I'm actually very exhausted.
You will relax?
Yeah, Evan's gonna unpack everything.
Do or do not There is no try. We have crazy things that we're doing in Manila during the monsoon, and if you want to see what we do, watch the video right there. Believe! We'll see you there.
