Hey everyone, it's Valentine's Day. I don't know when it's actually gonna be— it's actually gonna go live, but today is actually Valentine's Day, and one of the things that I surprised Nina with was I was gonna cook dinner. Yeah, you hear Nina so excited about this. So we went to Whole Foods, bought a whole bunch of stuff, and she didn't want peanut butter and honey sandwiches for dinner. So this video is Evan Evan making dinner, yes! Now if you want real videos about how to cook, you can check out all the videos that Nina has done on cooking. So this is my version. First thing, we need to wash our hands. This is all, I have no idea what I'm doing. I didn't know what I was gonna buy, so I'm gonna pull out some stuff. Here's what I started with, this is key. Oysters. They were on sale at Whole Foods, and you eat them raw, so there's zero preparation except for adding lemon Which is awesome, so we bought 10. Okay, so I decided to make stir-fry. This is how to make stir-fry Evan style. We've got mushrooms, tomatoes, ground beef, the magic ingredient— what are these called again?
Snow peas.
Snow peas! Oh, we have rice already! I don't have to make rice! Onion, red onion, and avocado. Surprise. I guess we gotta wash stuff. We need washing music.
You can sing.
When the moon hits your eye like a big pizza pie, that's a mooring. Bells will ring, ting-a-ling-a-ling, ting-a-ling-a-ling, and we'll say vi tabella. That means nice life, beautiful life. Hearts will play tippy-tippy-tay, tippy-tippy-tay, like a guitar in heaven. When the— this is the dramatic finish. Scusa— Toby's not happy.
Toby!
Toby! Scusa mi, but you see, back in old Napoli, that's amore! Best cooking video ever. Zero instruction. Wash everything. Okay. Spices. The key for me is the thyme. Do you like thyme?
It's okay.
It's okay?
You didn't sound like you're too excited about that. My secret ingredient is no longer time. Let's see. Oregano? Little bit, why not. Salt and pepper. Rosemary? Little rosemary. Smokin' Stampede spice mix? Sketchy, but maybe we'll try a little bit. Basil? Okay, that's it, we're good. So let's see, we need a wok. We need a wok. Can you wok the top? Where's the wok? We have a wok somewhere. So first thing I'm going to do is heat up the pan and then get some bulk oil. I don't even know how much. I'm just pouring it in. Whatever. Now, when you're making stuff, okay? That's the official term, making stuff. You're supposed to cook it in the order of what takes longest to cook first, and then slowly add more things in. My challenge is I have no idea what takes the longest to cook of everything that I have. So, I'm gonna make a guess. Rice, we can microwave.
I'm hoping that's okay.
I gotta decide between onion, meat, peas, tomatoes, and mushrooms. The order that I am deciding to go in is as follows: the mushrooms, the mushrooms are first, mushroom, then onion, then snow peas, then tomatoes.
Oh my god, here goes the tomato.
I need to wash this again. So it's very important when you're buying tomatoes with the vine attached that you don't lift it from the vine or they can go flying. I learned that lesson today. Okay, what did I say? Mushrooms, onions, snow peas, tomatoes, and then the beef is going in last. That's the order. Okay, we gotta chop. This is the official cutting board. Look at how many knives, people. This is crazy. I'm gonna go with this one and feel like this is the right decision. Oh, Evan Carmichael! I was just reminded that the wok is on, so I gotta do this quickly. Okay, you know what? You rip the mushrooms. That's how we do it. This is stir-fry style. Okay, rip. You know what? I'm just gonna bring it all over there. Yes, chop it cut it up like this. We're all about efficiency, people. See, proper technique is you take a mushroom and rip it on top of the thing. We got speed, we got delicious, because when it takes too long, you're not going to do it. That's what I've learned. I don't know why I love mushrooms. They're not really that healthy for you, as far as I know. I have zero nutritional information to share with you about anything that I'm cooking. Except that I'm putting a ton of mushrooms in here and I hope it works out. Now this is gonna get really watery because mushrooms leak sweat, leak whatever, doesn't matter. Garlic!
Garlic!
We buy pre-chopped garlic from Costco, so I'm gonna take a big spoonful and just smash it on top of that. One half more, smash.
Mix it Mix it all up and we're done with that.
Next, onion. With an onion, I cut off one side and then I cut off the other side.
Push all that away.
We'll clean it up later, right? The good thing is, you know, the person who doesn't cook is the one who cleans, right? No. Okay, so I'm just going to chop, get away from the crying. There's no real technique here, just pushing the knife down, that's all. Keeping your head back. Avoid tears. The only tears should be crying over how yummy this food is at the end. This food is so amazing! Okay, that's all done. Look at that. Pop that in here. I need something to mix this up. Certified wok spoon right here. Yeah! There you go. We're cooking on live action now. Live action right here. Live action with Nina. Here, let's do a selfie. Let's do a selfie. Selfie, what? What? Okay, live action. Here it is. Here— ah! Oh, it's hot! Ow! Ow! So it's very important— it's very important when you're cooking with a wok that's metal not to touch the edge because you can burn yourself. Mix it up. I feel like I want to add some soy sauce or something to this. But we're adding a whole bunch of other stuff too. Will soy sauce mix with basil? That's the question. I feel like we should. Where's the soy sauce? Yeah! We buy soy sauce, friends. Okay, we'll let the mushrooms marinate there in the—
oh.
Okay, just throw it on top. Mix it up. Mmm! Yeah! That is some yummy Valentine's Day dinner! Okay, what's next? Snow peas. Snow peas. I still like them crunchy. I don't like when they get too— I don't know. I don't like cooked vegetables. Green peppers, snow peas, you know, like, I like the crunch. So we wash them.
Bam!
That's what's up. We just throw them in. I kind of made a mess here. Kind of made a mess. It's okay. Nina just cleaned this this morning, so it's all clean. Now we got our snow peas. That's looking good. That's looking solid. And now we need our tomatoes. We're getting close. I'm just going to cut them into chunks, you know, slices, slices here. And then, like, I want a good chunk, right? About this size. That's what I'm looking for right here. Okay, that's going to add some yum. Yeah, tomato! I put my hand on your tomato. When you tomato, we tomato. That's the remix. Okay. Important to lick your fingers. And then we throw it into the wok. Yeah! This is sexiness in a wok. Right here. That's sexy time. So now I don't really know what to do. 'Cause it doesn't look cooked enough. Oh, we gotta add some seasoning, friends! Oh wait, let's wait for the meat for the seasoning. The meat usually cooks pretty quick, so I gotta let this sit for a while. I don't know how long as a guidance for you guys, but whatever, till it's done. What I'm waiting for really is I want the mushrooms to be cooked. When the mushrooms are good— yeah, that's a yummy mushroom— then we're ready to put the meat in. Now if you want to be, you know, really nice on Valentine's Day Instead of letting your Valentine clean up while you're waiting for this to happen, clean up. So let's put the onion skins out here. Nina's happy.
Look at that.
Okay, what else? Put the tomato bits away. Then the job of cleaning up at the end won't be as big. And we just wipe, you know, that's it. Pretty simple things. We need a towel. There's a towel in here. Perfect. Let's try a mushroom. I'm feeling it. Yeah. So the rice, I'm just going to put in the microwave for 4 minutes, and then you have to pay attention to presentation. It's critical. Valentine's Day and oysters are not the same.
I was gonna ask you to put it on the plate instead of putting it on that, but it's okay.
Nina's always concerned about the cleanliness and leaking. It's Valentine's.
It's okay.
I'm taking over here. You just have to operate the camera and then enjoy the food and cry over how great it is. Let's get back here and do some mixing. Mix that up solid. Okay, put this back down. Oh, I'll be right back because presentation is important.
Daniels, selfie kiss.
Is that too close? Who cares? Okay, walk around. This is This is cooking up nice. Let's try another mushroom. Oh, all right, rice is almost done. Get them plates, get some glasses, table. Very hot. I'm really feeling that 4 minutes was a good call because it's Hot. Mix it up some more. Okay, we're gonna add the beef in. I don't know, I just— it's a gut feeling. I'm feeling like now is the right time. I got no guidance for you as to when to do this, but I'm feeling it. So we're gonna open up this extra lean, grass-fed, pasture-raised product of the United States. There it is, 1 pound. Done! Oh, made a mess.
Okay.
All right, mix it up. Oh, can't touch it with my glove.
Glove!
Glove! Mix that up. Mmm, yeah! Time to season, friends. Seasoning. We got Smokin' Stampede Fume Spice Mix. Not too much of that stuff because I don't really know what it tastes like. Oh, that may be too much. Oh, whatever. I said that maybe too much and I added more. Wow, that one in the back— oh, my nose is burning! I almost drooled as I said that. Oh, okay, swallow. Okay, uh, rosemary.
Rosemary.
Okay, salt. There's already soy sauce. I'm not gonna put a lot of salt Just 3 twirls. What is that called? I don't know. Let's do 5. 2, 3, 4, 5, 6! Pepper, basil. Whoa! Alright, basil and oregano. God loves oregano. Man, this is just a mix of stuff. Bring the camera in. Look at this.
Can you see it? I did!
Can you see it? Can you see all the stuff on top?
Yeah!
Alright.
Throw it all in there however it fits. It don't matter.
We're getting hot, man.
Why am I in a sweater? Holy cow. Yeah, we need drinks. Oh, I should have added some alcohol to that, but soy sauce and wine maybe not. I don't know. Where's the wine?
In the laundry room cabinet. Um, no, I think it's almost done.
Let me check this real quick.
Maybe you have a red one No, you don't put the red wine in the fridge.
You don't put red wine in the fridge, people.
Can I see? Can I see? I cannot see. Oh, Massy. Oh, I like this wine.
Okay, Nina likes this wine, so that's why I chose it on purpose. It's Massy. It's a vintage 2004 red wine. Corkscrew. Corkscrew. Yeah, corkscrew. Here we go. The cook's command is really happy. Pop that down. Water.
Huh? This is looking chaos-free.
Listen, it's organized chaos. I have no idea what I'm doing. But it's coming along. You know what? The peas are starting to get flimsy, which I don't like, so I think we're gonna have to turn it off. The meat looks okay. Let's open up the meat. Looks like it's not raw.
Good.
Mushrooms— hot! Woo! But yummy. So there's a little bit too much water in here for my liking, but We'll just drain it as I put it on the plate. I'm going to turn this off. I'm going to get some rice on the plates. Take a spoonful of rice. Put that— smush it down nice. Oh, I didn't do the avocado! Okay, now I'm in a rush because I didn't do the avocado and I'm kind of freaking out. Okay, my wife had a great video on how to do Avocados. Oh my god. Oh, oh, that is nasty. I'm throwing that away. We don't need no avocado. See, what I wanted to do was slice it and just put it along the side, the presentation, and just a little extra yum. But anybody got time for that? Anybody got time? Anybody got time? Anybody got time for that? So as I bring it out, I just want to drain it. It's not too wet on the plate. Monster. Nina, you're really hungry, eh?
I'm very hungry.
Very hungry! This is it. Okay, we set it down. And this is one spectacular Valentine's Day dinner. Let me go get Nina. Hi, Nina.
Hi.
How are you?
Good, how are you?
Will you be my Valentine?
Mm, yes!
Okay, well, I made a special surprise for you.
Okay.
You have to close your eyes, though.
Oh, okay.
Yeah, well, here's what you can do.
You can just—
Already?
Put that over you. There you go. Okay, let me walk you. Here, hold my hand. Okay, you can open your eyes now.
Oh, so nice.
Yeah, right? Sit down. That's your seat. You got the alcohol bottle right next to you. Okay, this is the moment of truth. Happy Valentine's Day dinner. Nina's gonna dig in, get some goodness. Make sure to grab a mushroom with that. And she's going with the piece. You gotta get some meat in there too. Everything. Is it really good? Yes!
High five!
It's amazing. I was going with it was the thought that counts, but the food is actually good. Let me try one. Hold on. Oh yeah, the tomatoes. Milled tomato, fresh tomatoes in there. Nina's eating. It's always important to have the camera on somebody while they're eating. So— oh, that was great. Yummy. I love— so we're gonna enjoy our Valentine's Day dinner. Guys, that was pretty easy, right? You can do this. You could totally do that. If I could do it, you could do it. If you want me or Nina to make something else, leave a comment. Believe, subscribe, and we'll see you soon.
Bye! Thank you for watching.
Okay, there's no towel to dry.
Stop!
They're leaking, so I don't know, we'll put them there.
I don't know how to make rice or quinoa or anything, so we have the rice cooker.
Yeah, but I don't know how to use it.
You want me to show you?
No, no, no. Nina is doing some sexy dancing behind the camera. It's distracting me. My job. If you saw my face, I was like—
What?
I didn't do anything.
Yeah, yeah.
Um, sorry, one second. Should I make a suggestion?
No, we need the cartoon. That's what we need. Coming up. Cooking is hard work. Nina ate the entire plate and had more than half of the oysters. How you feeling?
I like raw oysters.
How about the other part?
I like the food too. It's really good. The stir-fry is really good. Yummy.
Whole plate?
Mm-hmm. I finished the whole plate. Thank you.
