Hey, it's another Thank You Thursday. I think it's important to recognize the people in your life who have had an impact on you because you can't do this alone. Running a business is really hard, and there are people in your life who help build you up, who help support you, who help give you ideas and guidance, and I think it's important to thank them. So once a week I make this series thanking the people who've had an impact on my life. So today I wanted to thank Greg Tirico, who is a director at Sage, the accounting software company. And there's a great story that I wanted to share about Greg. So Sage was putting on their annual event in Las Vegas. It's a conference for entrepreneurs to come to. And one of his colleagues reached out to me and said, Evan, we'd love for you to come cover the event, be a blogger and a media person there. We'll pay for your flight, we'll pay for your hotel for you to come out. And I had a challenge in that, you know, I get too many of those requests. Just to come and be media at an event. Unless I'm getting paid to hop on a plane, I don't really go anywhere anymore because I get, I get too many requests. And I guess that's a good problem to have, but I have so much happening, so many speaking opportunities, and so much work back here that I can't afford to miss a week to go somewhere just to cover an event. So I said no, but thank you so much for thinking of me. And after the event, Greg set up a call and I chatted with him and he talked about the event, how great it was, and talked about all the great speakers that were there, and one of them was Jessica Alba. And Jessica Alba had started a company called The Honest Company, and right there my heart started beating a little bit faster because I'm writing a book about one word. My heart wasn't beating faster because of Jessica Alba, it's because I'm writing the book. Called One Word. You know, my philosophy behind One Word is you want to find the one word that defines who you are and bring that to your business and to everything that you're doing. And here's Jessica Alba, who started a company called The Honest Company, and the website is honest.com. She started a business and named her business her one word. And I'm like, I gotta, I gotta talk to this person, right? I gotta get in contact with Jessica Alba somehow. And so I asked Greg, Greg, you know what, is there any way that you can help introduce me to Jessica Alba? And here was a situation where I had turned Greg down, right? I had said, "I can't make it to your event even though you're going to pay me for my flight and my hotel. I'm not coming, but can you please do this thing for me?" And Greg could have easily said, "You know, that's outside my domain. I'm just doing the social media for my company, you know, best of luck." But instead, he stepped up and he personally vouched for me and introduced me to her booking agency, and he said, Evan's a great guy, he's working on this book, I think this would be a great project, he should meet Jessica. And so he's putting himself out there saying that I would be a good connection for them. And that connection to the talent agency led me to her actual agent. And that guy actually shut me down. He shut me down. But I ended up getting to Jessica Alba's business partner, Christopher Gavigan, and we had a great session. And had so many comments, and thank you guys for commenting on it. And that led to a follow-up interview that we're setting up now with Christopher, myself, and Jessica. And so it's gonna work out. But it's not the fact that, you know, Greg's connection didn't work out for me, it's that he was willing to introduce her to me. He was willing to put himself out there even after I turned him down because he felt like it was the right thing to do. And so I'm really appreciative of Greg for first introducing me to Jessica's company because I'd never heard of it before him. But then also being willing to share his connections and contacts to try to help me with a personal goal that I have with my— with what I'm working on. So Greg, I wanted to take this opportunity just to say thank you. You're doing things the right way. For those of you watching, you can check out everything that Sage is doing on social media. They have some amazing stuff that's really leading the way for a lot of brands. And for those of you watching, think of the people who've had an impact on your life and on your business, the people who support you, the people who help you grow, the people who give you ideas, connections for you. And just say thank you today. You know, find one person who's had an impact, and if it's giving them a phone call, making a video, sending them an email, handwriting them a note, doesn't have to cost you anything. Just spend a little time to say thank you. They'll feel better, you'll feel better, and you're on your way to continue to build a successful business. Believe.
