Hustle means, man, no sleep, you know what I'm saying? Take flights, do shows, and get back on another flight, do a photo shoot, do some interviews. It's not easy going on the road, putting in work, because there's so many things going on in your personal life. At times it get a little shaky, just not being able to be with my kids as much and being around my family. So you got You gotta always be driven by your hustle and just continue to grind. Every day not gonna be pretty, every day not gonna be glamorous, so to speak, but you gotta stay consistent and stay productive. Every day you gotta work hard. Most comfortable when I'm in the studio and nothing else matters but the music. You got this love for it, for something that you think about, you sleep and you dream and you wake up and you breathe it and you wanna live it. There's so many options, there's many ways to blow up, there's many ways to be known and to get success and to be successful. It's just about picking that way to fit you, man. Statistics said if I did that and I stopped going to school and that's all I did was hang in the hood, that I wasn't gonna be here today. Mm-hmm. So that's why I still hang with the same people that I was with back in the hood. And I changed my mentality. I don't think the same way I was when I was there. I opened my mind up. I thought broader. I thought outside of my horizons. Like, you gotta think outside the box. Mm-hmm. Because that's the only way you gonna get out. When you trapped in the trap, you really mentally trapped in the trap. And it's me, me like, man, I want to make sure my people just know that that's just not the end of your life. Like if somebody tell you these statistics, this not you. You gonna fight statistics and go to the next level. Like statistics said, I wouldn't even be here talking to you right now. Mm-hmm. If I would've listened to them and tell them how my life would've been, they say 1 out of 10 people, they gonna be like this, or 9 outta 10 Black males, if they do this, live this way, they gonna do this. You know what I'm saying? It's no way around it. They gonna tell you it's nowhere around. So if you in the hood right now, you standing on the block every day, them police just riding by, that old lady that's looking at you, just calling the police on you. The people who ride by just looking at you like, "Layin' nethin'." Your pants saggin'. They think you ain't gonna never be nothing. They think you gonna be like that for the rest of your life. Like, who is the person to tell you that you gonna be standing on this block all your life? It's supposed to be a point in your life where you only be here for you, give yourself a year or two. You from here. It don't do no good for you to be here all your life and you spending majority of your life, 22 hours out your day trying to prove you the hardest in the hood. You come from this, you was born in this. You, when you came home from the hospital, you went to the hood. You know what I'm saying? So you done live your whole life this way for all your life. You deserve to live in a different neighborhood, better yourself for 3, 4 years outta your whole life when you've been living this way. Probably some dudes been living that way for 20 years, 23 years, been in the hood since they came home from the house building. They still trying to prove to the hood how hard they is and they end up not making it because they didn't prove to they self. You gotta prove to yourself that you want more than what the hood have to offer. Check it out. Everything I do, I freestyle though. So sometimes I get to freestyle it and play it back and come back and fix it and make it do what it do. But you know what I mean? Everything I've ever done, I freestyle. A lot of people don't know that, but that's how I get made, you know what I mean? You just got to keep working at it and working, working, working, work. The first one might not be right, the second one, the tenth one, the fifteenth one might not be right, but you know what I'm saying? You're gonna get it right, you know what I mean? You got to keep going and going until you get it out and say what you want to say. At the end of the day, when I— for my first song, when I first made My Head, I knew what I can do, you know what I'm saying? I know the type of artist that I am. I know the caliber of music that I can come with. And I know I can continue to do it. I was born to make music. And when you got a gift for something, you just gotta know how to utilize it. And when I found a way to utilize it and just make the most of my opportunity, I know I have to be, I'm an artist, I have to stay in the studio and create all the time. You know what I'm saying? If I was to lay off and not go to the studio, then all those he say, she says, it might would've came true. But I know the work that I was putting in and just reinvent because every album Rico always said, man, you gotta reinvent yourself, reinvent yourself. So by the time when on Southern Playlistic, when they was rocking the, like, the braids, the throwback jerseys, they already knew where they was going the next time they was coming. Dre already knew he wanted to do his hair like this, or he wanted to dress like this. So the next time he knew he wanted to not, I don't wanna rap on this album, I wanna just straight sing and do my production. Or I don't wanna rap, I don't wanna do no shows. I wanna, like, every chance, every time you come and reinvent yourself and get a fan something new. I never gave up on a moment, even when other people gave up on different moments. They might feel like, damn, why you make that move? And I'm like, man, shit, it's just rats on rats. I gave it away, I wrote it. Why would you write a song? Why it won't be your song? But you don't see my vision for where I'm at right now. You seen it then when he was getting more money for a show than me. I felt like that I did all the work, but I didn't let that energy get in the way of what I was doing. But people around me, they don't see the moves that you make. So they gonna tell you everything that you should have did, could have did, but it's not a part of your vision. You'll get thrown off. You gotta always stick to your vision no matter what. If you wrote it down when you was a kid, you gotta stick to that vision. You can't get here and get some money and be like, I want to change it up now. Cause that's what ain't got you here. You gotta keep whatever got you here. The key to success is like, when you haven't been successful, you don't know which the key to success and how to be successful. You know the right moves you're making and every move that you're making and you striving and you just achieving certain things that you made goals for yourself. You set goals and you achieve goals, but at the end of the day, you still set the standards high for when you reach a certain plateau. And then, you know, man, I gotta go to that next level, you know what I'm saying? When you wanna be successful, like, success is different from other people, you know what I mean? People, you know, like, success for me, It's just making music and that's success. Being successful is just, uh, like winning a Grammy, you know what I mean? The world's a dirty world. It's cold. It's full of greed. It's full of envy. So when you know those things in your back of your mind, then you should be able to live life free and free of the negativity, free of anything that's going to get in the way of hindering you and get in the way of prosperity. I don't focus on the media. I focus on the great things in life. I focus on everything I've overcome to being the person that I am today. I focus on the positive. I focus on achieving my goals. I focus on dreaming. You gotta live with no remorse for anything. You wanna create your own path, you know what I mean? Even no matter what situation you in, if you rich, poor, whatever, however, like, if you just wanna be able to have your own your own experiences in life, great experiences, and listen and learn from other people's mistakes so you don't have to walk down and make the same mistakes. You know what I'm saying? Some people are just hard-headed. They want to make the same mistakes so they can say they did it. But, um, man, just create your own path, man, and just do it your way. Everything that I'm living the way I live is the way I wanted to live my life. It ain't somebody like— that somebody in my family, the way they was living, I pretty much create my own vibe. I create my own, create my path, create my success story. You know what I mean? My success story is not the best success story, but any success story, as long as you got success, it's cool. You know what I mean? You got like bumps in the road, you gotta get through, you got mistakes, but for the most part, you gotta know how to be able to maneuver and get through it.

Originality and consistency, they gotta give it to me. Even though I had all those records, I had probably 10 records on the radio, they still didn't give me no awards, no nothing. Like I had Love Song, Bugatti, Good Cushion, Alcohol. Then I wrote the song for Body Party, and I had probably Same Downtime, which is Never End with Kelly rolling on the radio all at the same time. So none of these records even got an award, even went up for an award. You mean like Grammy? Because it's like I'm cheating. It's like you what? It's like I'm cheating. It's like, man, dawg, you— there's no way you can have all these records. So they're just not gonna give it to me because it's come too easy to me. Yeah. So they're making me work for it. That's how I want it.
How do you do that though?
How do you write a hit? Like, what is it? What is it? I write so many songs. I do 10 songs a day, and it's just not every song the same song. But all 10, do you have to kind of write something that doesn't work and then it gets— Yeah, yeah, some of it don't work. Sometimes I never finish it. Sometimes it might just be a verse. Sometimes it might just be a hook, but I just continue to work.
