Evan Carmichael explains why Google AdSense's 68% revenue share beats hiring salespeople to sell ads on your site. If you still want to hire, start with your network, offer part-time roles, and skip generic job boards like Craigslist.
Questions this video answers
Evan suggests first considering Google AdSense for its low commission, targeted ads, and automation. If you still want salespeople, create a clear ad‑space info page, start recruiting from your personal network, consider part‑time arrangements, and if needed, use niche recruiters. He notes that generic job boards like Craigslist are rarely effective.

Hi, I'm Evan Carmichael, and welcome to another edition of Ask Evan. In today's video, I'm going to answer a question from one of our readers, Robert, who asked me, "Hey Evan, love your stuff. I watch and listen very often. Question to you: How and where do I find salespeople to sell web ads on my site?" Help, Robert. So Robert, this is an area I know a little bit about since I have a similar business where I'm selling ad space online. For a while, I was running my own ad space and also using different ad networks and settled on Google AdSense. And I would encourage people to, you know, buy the ad space that I have at a marked up price from what I would sell my AdSense ads to. But then I eventually switched over to now where it's only AdSense. And there's a couple of reasons why I do it. First of all, Google doesn't take that big a commission off the sales that it makes for your site. So it's 32% for any publisher, they keep 32%, you keep 68%, which is a pretty good commission. You're still making a lot on the backend. I found that Google does a much better job at finding advertisers for each specific page, so you get targeted ads, which increases the chance that people will click on those ads, and that's how you end up getting paid. And the best part is there's no hassle, right? There's no customers to deal with and reports to have to give. It's all automatic. Google takes care of all of that. Ads. So I've automated that entire process on my business, and you can optimize the ads to try to make more money as they come in every month. But I found that to be the best solution for me. If you're really sold on selling your own ad space, the first thing I would do is make sure you have a page that clearly explains all the different ad spaces you have and the benefits that people can get. If you're sold on having to go find somebody, when I've hired people in the past, the best people I've found are people who I've known. So maybe not friends, but associates, people I've met who I have a good kind of working relationship with from meeting them and thought maybe there's an opportunity to be able to work together. So it's always come from my own network. I haven't had too much luck in terms of placing ads on Craigslist or a job board to try to get people to come in. Some of my entrepreneur friends have had success by using recruiters who specifically focus on finding salespeople. You know, depending on what market you're in, you want to find somebody who's close to you who can help with that. Again, I found the best solution to to go no salespeople and to do everything through AdSense. But if you're sold on getting that salesperson to come in, first I would start with your immediate network. Look at contacts you have, friends of friends, people you've met, people you've respected, and see if there might be an opportunity to work even at a part-time basis to get started. And if that still doesn't work, you might want to consider looking for a recruiter who might be able to help you get that salesperson that you're looking for. So I hope that helps.
