Welcome to another Famous Friday. I believe that whatever goal you have, whatever challenge you're trying to overcome, somebody has already accomplished it, and the fastest way for you to go and accomplish it is to learn from them, model their success, and apply it to your business. So today I'm going to look at Wayne Huizenga, and his lesson is you can't make money working for somebody else. So Wayne Huizenga is a billionaire entrepreneur. He's best known for Blockbuster and AutoNation and having a series of waste disposal companies, and he's a former owner of a few professional sports franchises in baseball and football and hockey. And here's— this is the important lesson, okay? This is how it all started for him. He was 25 years old and he's trying to figure out, what do I do with my life? You know, where do I go? What am I doing? How do I decide on what career path to take? And his father gave him a piece of advice that he would never forget. And that he applied immediately to his life. His father said, "You can't make money working for somebody else." So the 25-year-old Hizinga decided to take his father's advice. He borrowed $5,000 from his dad and he started in the garbage industry. And he would wake up every day at 2 in the morning and go out and start collecting people's garbage and hauling it off to the trash site. And when he was done his routine, he would go back home, change, put a suit and tie on, and go out and start soliciting business. And he said, I had no idea how business worked. I never studied it. I'm not an expert. But what I did do is I was willing to work hard, and I put my customers first. And that helped him grow his business. And soon he had 2 trucks, and 5 trucks, and 10 trucks, and 20 trucks, and growing his business, and then selling his business and buying Blockbuster, and growing, growing, growing. And I don't care how Wayne Huizenga makes his next billion-dollar acquisition. What I care about is the start, right? And if you're on the fence about starting a business or not, if you're thinking, I'm thinking, you know, what do I do with my life? You know, I want to start a business, but I'm scared. Take that advice from Wayne Huizenga's father. If you want to make real money, you can't do it working for somebody else. Use that as fuel to help you launch. I know that you'll figure out the path. That advice helped him build a billion-dollar-plus empire for his son. It can help you build your own empire. Believe.
