Runners typically don't build strong enough tendons or bones because normal running pace is neither slow nor fast enough to trigger those adaptations. Add 40 explosive jumps in about a minute for bone strength, then do slow three-second ups and downs on one leg to strengthen tendons.

If you could go back and completely change your running training, would you? I would do everything different. We didn't know what the hell we were doing 20 years ago, even 10 years ago. The interesting thing is running isn't a rigorous enough activity to build muscle strength and power. The contact times in running are not slow enough to actually build tendon properly, and they're not fast enough to build bone properly. You know, tendon problems. I get bone stress injury problems. I get muscle strains. Like, let's work backwards from that and say, okay, there is a better way to build those parts up. So explosive jumping is actually one of the best ways to improve bone health. Those 40 jumps will take you somewhere in the neighborhood of a minute to a minute and 15 seconds. That's bone. Tendon. Let's hit tendon. So it's going to take 3 full seconds to go up on the right foot and then 3 full seconds to come down.
