We knew in the mortality space that if you wanted to cut a human being's life expectancy in half at any age, you put them in isolation. What do you mean by we don't think about investing in relationships? We know this scientifically now that loneliness is worse for you than smoking, drinking. You know, the single greatest predictor of physical health at age 80 was relationship satisfaction at age 50. How people felt about their relationships was more predictive of their health at 80 than their cholesterol and their blood pressure and their smoking or drinking habits. For me, the biggest reason is because people don't think about the fact that a tiny daily investment in your relationships compounds in the same way that a financial investment does. The tiny daily investment is infinitely better than doing nothing.
