Gary Brecka says anxiety is a biochemical event: too many catecholamine neurotransmitters, often caused by a genetic mutation that prevents your body from breaking them down. He recommends methylfolate, B vitamins, and methylcobalamin to help clear them, plus SAMe if you wake up in a low mood.

No one tells you what anxiety is. They tell you the characteristics of anxiety. The vast majority of physicians, they will say it's the sensation of the presence of a fear without the presence of a fear, rapid heart rate. All of those are characteristics of anxiety. Anxiety is very specifically this: it is a rise in 4 neurotransmitters. They are called catecholamines. The question is, why do these catecholamines rise? There is actually a gene mutation called compti. If you have this, you don't break down catecholamines. You are walking around anxious. How do you break down catecholamines? So the first is methylfolate, the second is the entire complex of B vitamins, and the third is a very specific form of B12 called methylcobalamin. And if you wake up sad, you add something called SAMe. All of these are available over the counter.
