An athlete explains why recovery matters more than raw performance. After races he feels broken, but following his nutrition and rest protocols gets him back. Recovery gets slower with age, even when competition performance stays the same.
Are you surprised at your body's ability to recover after some of these races? I mean, have you ever felt really, really broken after a race?
I normally feel pretty broken, but if I just do my recovery protocols and do everything that I know I need to do, then I bounce back. But it's definitely, as I get older, it's definitely getting slower. When I was younger, I definitely noticed that I bounced back faster.
So now you can cover the distance. It's just the recovery, you know, I try
not to have the races too close together, but I also really like to race. It doesn't always work out. Sometimes I just go into a race at 60% or 80% instead of 100. But again, it's me against me.
