Gary Kadi explains why A-players leave dental practices: they'll lower their standards to match C-players unless you hold C-players accountable or replace them. Equal bonuses for the whole team reward underperformers and drive out your best people.

Your team is going to perform at the lowest performers standard of level, meaning that your A players, over time they will slowly decrease your C player level. If you don't hold their C players accountable or potentially if they're not the right fit, look to replace them. It's something that's predictable. If you're A players are being held to the same standard as your C players and they see that your C players can do the job with half as much effort and still be treated the same, they're going to catch on to that and they're going to want to form at that level because they understand that that's what's acceptable for your practice. What's even worse in the scenario is if you have a group bonus that's being paid and your C players earn the same amount as your A players in a bonus format, that is a recipe for disaster. So pay attention to that because it can be really, really easy to look at these trends inside of the dental landscape when it comes to hiring and not hold team members accountable because you're afraid of them leaving.
