How Did Ramalingam Crack PMP Certification With Infocareer | #2024 #pmp #successstory

Ramalingam, co-founder of Generation Infinite Machines Private Limited, shares how he passed the PMP certification exam with Infocareer's help. He discusses his startup experience, project management strategies, and how he applied concepts like Earned Value Management to his own company.
Sure. This is a Ramalingam. I am one of the co founder of Generation Infinite Machines Private Limited. We are into automating kitchen appliances using IoT technology. We did both hardware and software projects and we were into series A round. We were raising fund for series A round and all these five years with the company I have managed the end to end operations of the company for both hardware and software projects and we were pre Covid. We were 13 numbers. Right now we are 14 in numbers and we are doing good. And like I just being part of the startup I just wanted to make things more organized. When I say startup though we had a very good talent pool of resources. We couldn't bring that organized setup into the startup because everything is scrambled and there is no definite line between who does what. That's. That's typical with any startup. So my idea was to bring in the organized setup into a startup to take it to a corporate level wherein everything is done in an organized way and everything is documented perfectly. To have it as resource for future, for future of the company, for betterment of the company. So I thought doing project management professional myself because upskilling and reskilling is very important part of any manager in an organization. So I thought for the first step I should take this first step rather than not wasting my resources to do that. So I thought doing PMP would be the right thing because I got to know about these courses with from my friends at Bangalore. So I thought of taking the initial step myself before myself advising to my fellow employees. So when I searched for this PMP exam like with the rating, the first. The first rating is always with Info Career. I think it is for very long years. Whenever you're going to search for PMP that way in Chennai you will get Info Career as a very first option. So I just called them and inquired and they were very kind to guide me through the entire journey. Rather than convincing me to take up the course with them. They just explained me about the course, what it demands. Then they asked my. They explained the fee structure. Then they asked my willingness to be part of Info Career. I was very much delighted the way they approached the candidates. So I joined Info Career after joining Info Career. I was mentored thoroughly I think. So it's Mr. Natraj who took the classes for us and there are many lessons with Shaker sir yourself, you also, you did the concluding note for us and it was a very fruitful session for me. And I would like to mention this. I don't know whether you how far you remember in the last class. You are explaining to the candidates that if you're going to prepare this exam for the sake of preparation, then there are chances that you might feel the pressure. But for the sake of knowing concepts for the, for the betterment of your organization, how to take it to your organization, how to implement those, if you're going to focus on those, you will not actually face the heat of the examination, will rather enjoy the preparation. I just took that single line and I focused on my preparation. That's the reason I couldn't. I didn't face that pressure during preparation because immediately after completion of my course in next two months, within two months, in spite of working with the company, I wrote the exam. Probably a very big thanks to you sir for, for telling that because any individual will straight away focus on the exam examination, getting marks, getting pass mark. So when we are going to focus on the result, probably we will skip the process. So I just focused on the process and left the result to the quality of my process and it came out well. I got about target score with the PMD and a very big thanks to you and the entire info carrier team for guiding me. And in this preparation I entirely. I was reliant on the road to success. For I didn't I even in Road to success PM book guides were provided there but I didn't refer to those because everything was condensed from the PM book and has been clearly mentioned in the route to success. So I straightaway stuck with that and I took important notes from that and I revised. So that also helped me a lot. And then I just took the exams from IC leaves and I made sure that I take up every exams and as you know after completing my exam I have updated you and you have guided me what to do, what not to do, which area I lag and those really help me and the mock exam actually really helped me. So probably that's my journey with the info career and my preparation itself. And the key which I would say is focusing on the process than to check on the result. And that has actually helped me clear this exam. That's it sir. Okay. So on the one thing that as a team we focused was the EVM Earned Value management how far we could use. That's the first thing we tried to implement in our company basically. Other than that we are, we are. We have planned a series of pipelines that has to be implemented. And one very important thing out of this journey of preparation is the emphasis of the project manager towards his team. Always teams comes first. You, you can have Prong. You can have project sponsors, you have customers, you have investors waiting to hear it from you. They put a lot of pressure. It is end of the day. None should get transferred to the employees. They are the key for any company. So focusing on the team and always being there with the team for the team. Actually that is the mentality that I have got through this PMP exam because at times in startup there would be pressure from investors and target dates. So all will be end of the day transferred. And there is a lot of blame game that happens on between cross functional teams. All those but it is a prerogative of the project manager to take all those unwanted noises around the project and allow the project team to perform. But only then we will get that is one great thing that I understood from this and straightaway tried implementing and EVM is another thing which we started implementing. Yeah. So I would put this way. There are people who are there to peel the skin of the apple, get the seeds out of the apple and serve you apple. So I could not just say that I don't want the cut apples. I'll have my own apple. Apple peel out the skin peel out. That is not wanted. You have. You have ready to serve fruits under in the table. I just had the fruits that you have served in my plate. That's what I would say. I didn't try to reinvent the wheel because I strongly believed in the InfoCare team because they have been doing this for many years. So they could have easily condensed from the gist from the PM book. And when we read PM workbook I just tried reading two, three pages. It is very elaborate and getting the exact juice out of the pages that we read is very difficult. So why to why to spend more time on again peeling the skin when you have the cut apples in your plate. So my belief with the team and when you have materials ready and that too it covered everything. It was very organized way and the entire processes and stages were mentioned clearly. So I thought okay, why to why to reinvent the wheel? Just follow the iCLE. I myself was convinced with the content. So I I had the stress on that one. One interesting thing I would like to share. This mock exam really helped me a lot in time management. As you said, doing enough marks is really going to help you in the exam that I really enjoyed the fruit of that during the examination I would say one one thing was I really in the mock like we were not given the 10 minute break. Actually this mock exam we can pause it and go. But in examination they they give that 10 minute break after those questions. But I was, I really don't know when they are going to give that first 10 minute break because it started with 2:30 minutes and it condensed out to 140 minute only. Then the first break was I didn't know the exact time so I was like for five, six minutes. I don't know whether I was in break or what's happening. Yeah, other than that it went well. And separating this into three segments probably first 10 minute break, second 10 minute break you have. We had three sections and in the first section probably I felt the questions were bit difficult because there are very few concepts which probably they can ask it from anywhere. Like it is not that 100, we'll get it from what we have prepared. They tried putting in new challenges and the first part I found it really difficult and thoughts are coming into my mind that oh we are going to lose this 50,000 and all those. But, but I, I just took that break and I made it clear that you have next 120 questions. If you're going to give your best then 100% you are going to clear it. That's my thought in my mind. So next two slots I did it perfectly well and all the situation based questions and I really managed to crack it easily and eventually I got above target market which was like comparing to my first slot. Just because I did the next two slots very well. I could get that otherwise it would have gone other way. And also the nervous, yeah, the nervousness of first, first 10 minutes and 20 minutes actually will creep in. But we did not think on those. I was reading that twice or thrice because I really don't know whether I have cleared or not what they have written and all those. Because a person should have a very, very sturdy mindset and very, very healthy heart to accept the fact that the moment they're going to click end exam they are going to have the results on the screen. Which is, which is not the case with the other exams because I myself have been a civil service aspirant. I have gone through civil service interview. I have written services mains twice. I know we used to wait for the results and every time we fail again we start from scratch. But this one, as soon as you end the exam you are getting results in your screen. Which is, I would say for people like me it is a boon because we have two, three years waited for exams and everything. Like after waiting you will get at least you know the next second that whether you're cleared or not that Is that is very thrilling and very good to have thing with the PM Probably I would say when you. When we have the mentor it is. It is good that we should utilize them because there are many people out there who just for the sake of getting certificate they are trying to prepare for PMP. There is nothing wrong in that. But without proper guidance they spend a lot of time in PM book books. I personally had a friend who had done this PMB book 6 twice thrice he have paid for the exam but he. He has exhausted the one year slot itself time itself Brother. I would say it is always good to have mentor and the mentors are always there to guide us. And probably I would say that should be the key because they with the years of experience it is not that with the. I am not just telling with the info carrier alone whatever be the platform they are going to learn this. If they are going to have very good mentors then the process is half done already. The remaining is only on focusing on the concepts and the test mock test that is there. So. And with the info carrier I would say I personally had a very good mentorship and the confidence which you gave when I sent you the result of my first mock actually it boosted my morale and I thought. And also you also insisted that don't postpone your exam. If you're going to postpone your exam it means that you are not going to take up the exam which always. Which. Which is another risk which always was lingering in my mind that okay, out of his experience he's telling something which means he has seen the candidates doing postponing things and not taking a breakdown. I should not do that mistake. Committing the same mistake which predecessor has done is not going to add any value to me personally. So I just followed those. Sure. Thank you very much. Thanks for all the appreciation. Thanks for the entire info career team. Also it is my privilege to mention Ms. Leela who has helped me in in the application process and Ms. Natraju took the classes for me and you yourself sir for the right mentoring and thank you very much for the entire. Thank you.
