Unnikrishnan N Namboothiry shares how he passed the PMP exam, discussing the challenges he faced, his study strategies, and mock exam practices. The interview covers practical advice for PMP aspirants and emphasizes learning beyond just getting certified.
Welcome Unikishnan and congratulations for your PMP certification. And so I just want to hear from you. How did the journey started? And I think there wasn't a small delay in your writing this examination and how this journey started. Then how you restarted the entire journey once again. And so please share with us your experience, how you started and how you completed the exam. Before that please introduce yourself. Just your name and then what you do and then you can share your experience. Okay. Over to you, Nikisha.
Yeah. Thank you sir. Yeah. Good morning. And myself and I have been working in an auto ancillary organization in Chennai itself. And I am taking care of product development responsibilities. So regarding starting the PMP journey, I started this last year March. Last year March. I attended the the training course in Info Carrier Institute itself. I think end of March or something 2023 I started. And yeah based upon the guidance and recommendation I started preparing the activities. Yeah. As you said it took little more time than. Than expected because I had my own challenges, professional and personal which have delayed the preparation. But when I was going through the preparation at that time this reimagine challenge in came into picture at that time. So I joined that also. And it was a very good means for me. It is like a revision of whatever I have. I have been done. So it was like a revision session. So I stick with the recommendations that 30 days videos, audios and whatever the recommendations were. I. I tried my best to stick with that procedures as you have recommended to take care. So it was not just about just means taking the certification. What I felt it was about learning. So it was a good value addition in totality. If I say value addition. And it was really changing the outlook how you see the things or how you see in professionally how you see the project. That is another thing in totality it was a means good learning. Okay. So I tried to stick with that procedures. And yes and my preparation initially was not up to mark because if I remember I choose the examination last February. Last February means January February. I had opted for the examination. But the preparations somewhere like this mock up exams results were not that much favoring. So at that time I take. I. I thought of just having one more time brushing up the things where I am lacking. Okay. Especially my speed. That was one area where I have. I was. I had the challenges. So so second attempt again I gone through the reimagine challenge. And as per your guidance videos audios especially. So yeah. So in this way this was in short about the. The journey. How. How it all went through and how.
Was this new structure? Whatever we are given the day one, day two, day three are able to follow the structure. And is it enough for taking this exam? Any improvement or suggestion for us?
It was very. It was very good. That structure was very good. That structure was really very good. Because it was a mix of. Of mockup and study material. So very means. What is. What is exactly? The benefiting is from initial day one itself. You are getting practicing with little bit mockup atmosphere. So it was gradually you are adopting to that atmosphere actually. So you know, once we reach last last phase, immediately going into golden pack or a four hour mark, it will be little bit to getting adopted. It will take little time. But in this 30 days reimagine challenge from day one, whatever the study, we are doing parallel. We are going for 15 or 20 minutes mock up. That is really means. That is. That was a good means mix of curriculum. What I should say. Yeah, it was very value adding. That was a good means. It was good.
And what do you want to say to PMP aspirants?
People who want to do this examination? I would recommend that don't just do it for certification point of view. It is. It is like. It is not just about certification. You should understand. It means. It is about learning. It is about learning. Okay. Means what I recommend is understand the think behind it which add value. And it as initially I told it will add value. It will change your outlook. How you are thinking, how you are seeing the things that matters more and get the maximum learning from it. What it is just means giving it to you. Not just about just a certification.
And how about this mock exam practices. And with the practice, whatever you have done the multiple mock exams and then going for exam. How did that help you?
It really helped me because my challenge in mock exam was my speed. Because you know, I have everyone have some basics which resistance will be there. So my challenge was more than. It was the that 180 questions to finish in that given time to meet that that speed was my challenge. So I think it varies from individual to individual also. But it was a good package because indirectly you are learning. You are once more whatever you learned is revising there means wherever you are striking the description the answers that is giving a good means. It was. It was also very, very good means structure. What is. I hope I answered your question. Yes. Yeah. Yeah.
Thank you. Thank you. And so when you went for exam and after completing when you saw congratulation a seat which they given so you passed a provisional certificate. How was that moment.
It was very very good moment because for me you know one more than one year time I have dedicated to that. So it was. It was satisfying but you know the journey have to continue of learning learning. You know there are many areas further which I need to improve in our multiple conversation. Also you know what all the areas I need to further build. So you know it was. It was satisfying but you know it is not the end and.
