Authentic Living & Following Your Dreams

This is a YouTube video titled "Authentic Living & Following Your Dreams" created in September 2011. It features Alexandra J. Johnson sharing a personal and motivational monologue about living authentically, following one's joy and bliss, overcoming fear and doubt, and committing to one's true desires. The content is a solo inspirational talk rather than a conversation.
Hi everyone, this is Alexandra J. Johnson. And I just got done doing an interview with Alan Cohen for his class the Power of Authentic Living for the Entheos Academy, which is our new creative project. You can check it out@entheosacademy.com and I really, really love the word authentic and I really love the power of authentic living. And Alan Cohen in the interview just really, really shared some simple and profound truths that I definitely resonate with. And I wanted to share a little bit about today. And it's all about going for your joy, really trusting yourself of asking yourself, what do I truly want? What is my true heart's desire and really connecting to it. Maybe putting your hand on your heart, closing your eyes and getting to the source, what it is you want to be, what you want to create, what you want your life to be like, who you want to be for your family, for your friends, for your community, for the world and really, really getting clear about that and then having the courage to do what you need to do to have it come together, really making a deep commitment to yourself. And I look at my life, my progression in the last 10 years, and it's been very much that deep commitment to following my joy, to following my bliss, as Joseph Campbell says, you know, really following it. And it hasn't been always easy, but there's been a commitment to. I am committed to living an authentic path. And in the process there's been challenges and there's been failures and there's been fear and doubt and all of those things. But I think when we really get, get clear about what we want, really, really, really, and you may say, I don't know what I want, but I don't buy into that. Take some time to feel into your heart and say, you know what, I don't need to know what I want for 20 years, but what do I want right now? What do I want today? What do I want tomorrow? What do I want in the next couple months? And just keep taking baby steps to following that bliss. Following that bliss. And you know, you may have fear, but just keep breathing, knowing that this is what here to do, this is what you're here to give and you're really committed to, committed to it. So always coming back to your joy and keeping it simple. I know I talk about this in a lot of my videos, but finding what it is that you want to do and then keeping your life really simple and doing those things and letting go of all the things that are no longer serving you, maybe you're doing something that it did actually work for you, you know, last year, but it's no longer calling to your heart anymore, so you need to let it go. So keep refining and simplifying so that your life is a reflection of your authentic self, that you feel at home in your life, that you really feel connected to your authentic self and you're doing what you love and you're actually being who you truly are. So I think that is really important. And then I know for some of you, you may be watching this and say, you know, I have this dream and it seems so far from where I actually am and I totally know this feeling. And what I would say is take the next baby step, know and have faith that if you keep following your heart, if you keep, keep on the authentic path and keep showing up every day and when there's fear, move through, have the courage to move through your knowing. This is where I'm going, this is where I'm going. Keep journaling it, just keep standing in your power and moving forward. And before you know it, it may take a year, it may take 10 years, it may take 20 years to actually achieve your goal or your dream, but really holding that dear to you and really just, you know, rocking it every single day, do something every single day to keep moving it forward and always coming back to your heart, coming back to what is authentic and true and real for you and being honest and being truthful about this is what I desire and I am going for it. I'm fully in and I'm committed to living my authentic life no matter what. And when we have that power, when we have that strength, then when the challenges come up, we can move through them with more grace and ease and a light heartedness and it's not going to stop us. And there may be two steps forward and two steps back, but knowing that that's part of the process, that you know when you move forward, you may come back and that you're not a failure, that you just need to keep getting up and keep taking those baby steps and stay true to your heart and keep it simple, follow your bliss, follow your joy, have a great time and have faith. That's what I wanted to share with you today. Hope that you enjoyed and thank you so much for watching and until next time.
