Being Healthy is a Revolutionary Act

This is a YouTube video titled "Being Healthy is a Revolutionary Act" featuring Alexandra Johnson speaking in a monologue recorded in January 2011. Alexandra shares her personal journey and philosophy on health, nutrition, and wellness, emphasizing the challenges and societal pressures around maintaining a healthy lifestyle and encouraging viewers to be patient and gentle with themselves while becoming wellness warriors.
Hello, it is Alexandra J. Johnson. How are you today? So I'm getting ready to go to my goddess fitness class that I teach here in Ecuador and I love my playlist. Today is rockin' and I'm drinking my smoothie. I like big jars. I don't know, I'm a little weird, but I like big jars. And my smoothie today is sun warrior mango papaya, some vitamineral greens and almond milk. So that is what I'm rocking for my pre workout drink. And today I would love to chat about how being healthy is a revolutionary act. And I got the idea revolutionary act from my incredible, amazing, awesome, pure goodness of a friend Pilar over at Experience Life magazine. She's the founding editor and she is, she's a remarkable human being doing some incredible things in the world. And one of them is revolutionaryact.com. so the idea is that in our society we're not set up to be rock stars of radiant health. It's just, you know, there's fast food everywhere and convenience and, you know, just it's not set up for us to be our healthiest, most radiant goddess self. So it takes work and I know a lot of people think, oh, you know, Alexandra's been healthy most of her life and this is really easy for her and yada, yada, yada, this is not the case. I will say I chose my college because it had a Taco Bell. I loved Taco Bell so much, I wanted to make sure that there was a Taco Bell at my college. So with that, I definitely was a fast food, fast foodie and I was a college athlete. So I became interested in peak performance and nutrition. And then I also had issues with emotional eating. You know, I would eat boxes of candy in college and I was just, you know, a stressed out kind of athlete and just didn't know how to manage my emotions. And it was, it was quite a journey. So I got really interested in food and nutrition and healthy living and that started my path, you know, over a decade ago. But it was challenging for me. You know, I wanted to eat the cookies, but I should be eating something healthy. And I had some ups and downs and I would be full on for, you know, a couple weeks and then I'd fall off the wagon. So it was a process for me of just evolving to where I am right now, that I just choose to eat healthy whole foods, and that is what my diet is. And it's really easy for me and it's enjoyable. But just to just to be clear, it was a process I mean, we're looking at over a decade of a process to actually, you know, work through my emotions, rewire my brain and to go against society of being healthy. I used to get made fun of if I would bring my own food or if I wanted to go work out. So there's this energy of that it's cool to not be healthy and it's not normal if you want to eat healthy and it's normal if you go to a fast food restaurant. So I just want to, I know a lot of people are working with their diet and their nutrition and I just want to say again, be gentle with yourself. If I could go back to when I was 18 and give my 18 year old self a message, it would be be gentle with yourself. You're going to figure it out, it is going to get a lot easier and just be patient, you know, by the time, you know, you're in your 30s, it's going to be really easy for you. So I think that is just, you know, the message for today. It is hard work and it does take patience and diligence and time and consistent effort, but it is so, so worth the effort. And remember that you're rewiring your brain, you're changing habits and behaviors that you've had for, you know, years, decades. So it takes a process. So be gentle, be loving with yourself and also be willing to be a wellness warrior of making a strong resolve of this is what I'm committed to and then taking consistent action. And if you fall off the wagon, no big deal, just recommit. You know, I used to think if I made a resolve and a commitment that I was just going to be easy throughout the process and that isn't the case. You know, I fell off the wagon and then I'd feel bad about myself, but I think the best thing to do is just be like, okay, cool, I fell off the wagon. I am learning and I'm going to recommit. I am recommitting because my health and my vitality and my energy and my goddess ness is important to me. So have fun with it, you know, and just explore. And it's a whole process of figuring out what your body wants and what your body needs and how you feel with certain foods and it's fun. So that is, that's the idea for today. Being a wellness warrior and having health be a revolutionary act that you can be an active part in. And I know there's a lot of, you know, government and food systems and all of that stuff, you know, from GMOs to factory farming. But I think the most important for us is to not blame the government or whatever, but it is to take action in our own life. Like, what can I do today? Okay, great. I can go to local farmers and I can support them. I can eat whole foods. I cannot invest my money in fast food restaurants or factory farming. So there's all these options of things that we can actually do to start shifting the consciousness and the society, you know, and it starts at a grassroots level. That's what I love what Pilara is doing. She's extraordinary of really supporting you and empowering you around being, you know, your most awesome healthy self and taking the steps that you need to take to go against society and stop eating the standard American diet and being beautiful and radiant and saucy and sexy and fantastic. So that's it. Be a wellness warrior. Rock it. Totally. Be your most authentic self and love yourself. Be gentle, have fun, and get your goddessness on and make sure that you dance. Dance is a huge part of it. And I am going to go get mine on right now. So I will see you soon. Have a fantastic day and.
